Diablo 4 Season 8 has introduced many changes to progression, making experience gain more important than ever. Paragon Points are the foundation of endgame character strength, and with 328 available this season, reaching them all quickly can make a huge difference in how your build performs.
This guide breaks down the best experience farming methods for Paragon Points, compares key activities, and outlines how to speed up your progress effectively - especially in Torment 4 or higher.
Season 8 introduces new scaling mechanics where boss powers scale with your Paragon level, up to level 200. That means the faster you reach higher Paragon levels, the stronger your seasonal character becomes.
Unlike past seasons, Torment tiers have been rebalanced, and the Pit is now more central than ever to progression. Experience gain after level 100 slows down drastically, and most activities don’t scale in experience output. However, The Pit scales with your power—the faster and higher you go, the more XP you gain per minute.
If you’re looking for the most efficient way to gain Paragon XP, Pit runs are the top choice.
At Tier 55, Pit runs can yield around 7 to 12 million experience per run, depending on your speed. In tests, a 4-minute clear of Tier 55 provided about 1.85 million XP per minute. This far outperforms every other activity in terms of experience per time spent.
As your power increases, you can push higher Pit tiers. These not only give more XP per run but also reward you with:
Glyph XP for Paragon boards
Murmuring Obols, which you can use for gambling top-tier gear
Boss materials and tributes for other content
The Pit stays relevant throughout the entire season and becomes even better the faster your build is.
Why The Pit Wins in Season 8?
Previous seasons allowed you to use Smoldering Ashes for a 20% monster XP bonus. That’s gone in Season 8.
Because of this, the gap between The Pit and other activities has widened. The Pit already provides experience through clear rewards rather than just monster kills, while most other activities rely purely on kill XP. With no seasonal XP boost from Ashes, The Pit is now objectively better—not just faster, but also more consistent.
If you can clear Tier 55+ Pits in under 4 minutes, you’re looking at millions of XP per hour, on top of glyph upgrades, gear, and other resources.
If you're looking for a decent alternative or just need a break from the Pit, 10-wave Infernal Hordes are the next best XP activity.
These runs can generate about 1.12 million XP per minute, especially when waves are dense with Hellborn and elite-tagged enemies. Later waves are packed with mobs, making them great for fast kills and XP gain.
In addition to XP, Infernal Hordes also provide:
Obducite (used in tempering gear)
Scrolls of Restoration
Gold from chests
Ancestral gear
This makes them a strong option when you want XP alongside multiple other rewards.
Apparition Incursions (Seasonal Event)
When done solo with full mob density, Apparition Incursions provide around 643,000 XP per minute, which is roughly 35% as efficient as Pit Tier 55.
Incursions also grant Spectral Ash, but once you've unlocked all your seasonal powers, the event becomes unnecessary. For ash farming, layer bosses are a better source.
Kuras Undercity Runs
Using the Tribute of Growth, Kuras Undercity yields up to 660,000 XP per minute. Without the tribute, it drops closer to 608,000 XP per minute.
Some builds perform better here due to cooldown resets and AoE potential, but in general, this activity is only worth doing when:
You want specific tribute rewards
You’re already planning to farm gear, not just experience
XP is a bonus here, not the main draw.
While Nightmare Dungeons are useful for Obducite, they are the weakest choice for farming XP.
In testing, average runs resulted in 528,000 XP per minute, which is far below both The Pit and Infernal Hordes. Since dungeon layouts vary significantly, you can't rely on fast runs consistently.
That said, Nightmare Dungeons still have value:
Great for gear drops
Good for tempering materials
Can be used to push glyph upgrades
But if you're focused on Paragon XP, they’re not the way to go.
No matter which activity you pick, make sure you’re running XP boosters:
1. Elixirs
Provide a % boost to XP gain
Tier 2 elixirs give more than Tier 1
Always have one active
2. Incense
Grants additional XP when at least one is active
Only one incense bonus stacks at a time, but it’s still worth it
Combine with elixir for better gains
These small boosts add up across hundreds of runs and help you hit that 328 Paragon Point goal faster.
To summarize:
Start running The Pit at Tier 10 once you hit level 60 and enter Torment 1.
Progress through Torment levels and push your Pit tier as high as your build allows.
Aim for Tier 60–70 Pit runs with a fast build for the best XP/minute.
Use Elixirs and Incense at all times to maximize XP.
Supplement with 10-wave Infernal Hordes when you want variety or additional loot.
Skip Incursions and Nightmare Dungeons for XP—they fall behind.
Once you reach around Paragon 200, your build will begin to scale rapidly. Glyphs, legendary nodes, and board synergies will push you further, letting you hit higher Pit tiers and gain even more XP per run.
