Diablo 4 Season 9 Best Boss - D4 S9 Bosses Tier List

With the introduction of new seasonal mechanics, updated loot tables, and expansion-specific content like the Vessel of Hatred, knowing which bosses are truly worth your time—and which ones to skip—can make or break your endgame efficiency. This Diablo 4 Season 9 boss tier list breaks down every major endgame boss encounter in Season 9, ranking them based on loot quality, accessibility, and farming viability. Whether you're grinding for Shroud of False Death, chasing Betrayer’s Husks, or just looking for the most time-efficient way to gear up, this guide will help you focus your efforts where they matter most.

Diablo 4 Season 9 Bosses Ranking

S Tier

Baal

Unlocks any lair boss horde, giving access to all uniques and mythics in the game. Extremely tough fight and expensive to access (requires Betrayer’s Husks). Top-tier endgame farming boss with unmatched loot potential. Worth the grind.

A Tier

Andariel

Drops best-in-slot uniques across multiple classes, like Shroud of False Death and Harlequin Crest.  Multi-phase boss with strong elemental damage and requires dolls/stones to access. Difficult but efficient for high-end loot. Staple for meta farmers.

Uravaar

Drops several top D4 Season 9 uniques, especially for Druid, Rogue, and Barbarian. Gated behind Vessel of Hatred expansion and fire-heavy mechanics. If you own the expansion, he’s one of the best boss farms in the game.

Vashan

Easiest A-tier boss to access (Malignant Hearts) and has strong loot like Rotting Lightbringer. Shadow resistance needed; otherwise manageable. Great balance of loot and ease of farming. Underrated gem.

B Tier

Beast in the Ice

Drops pin cushion dolls for Andariel access and some solid Season 9 uniques.  AoE freeze mechanics make it annoying to fight. Good loot potential, but frustrating mechanics slow efficiency.

Duriel

Shares loot table with Andariel (very strong). Long, poison-heavy 3-phase fight; worse farming efficiency than Andariel. Great loot, but if you value time, Andariel is the better pick.

Harbinger of Hatred

Identical loot table to Andariel/Duriel. Gated behind Urvaar and expansion content. Extra steps for the same rewards. Optional challenge if you're deep in Vessel of Hatred already.

C Tier

Lord Zir

Drops pink cushioned dolls for Andariel access. Doesn’t drop any Season 9 uniques; slow and unrewarding. Only useful for dolls, but Beast in the Ice is the better alternative.

Grigoire

Drops Shards of Agony (for Duriel’s horde).  Lacks new uniques and poor overall loot pool. Outclassed by other bosses for the same materials and loot quality.

How to Farm Bosses in D4 Season 9?

Farming bosses in Diablo 4 Season 9 is a core endgame loop tied to materials, summoning rituals, and specific dungeons that grant access to the strongest loot and exclusive Season 9 uniques. Here's how to efficiently farm each of the major bosses this season:

Step 1: Understand the Boss Categories

There are two types of bosses:

  • Base game bosses (e.g., Duriel, Grigoire, Beast in the Ice)

  • Season 9 and expansion bosses (e.g., Baal, Uravaar, Vashan, Andariel)

Each has unique summoning materials and loot pools. Season 9 adds more layers to the system through Horadric Strongrooms, Arcana, and new components like Betrayer’s Husks.

Step 2: Farm Summoning Materials

For Duriel, Andariel, Grigoire, Beast in the Ice

  • Grind Whispers and World Bosses to get Scattered Prisms, Living Steel, and summoning mats like Agony Shards or Pincushioned Dolls.

  • Beast in the Ice and Lord Zir drop the Dolls needed to summon Andariel.

  • Grigoire drops Agony Shards used to summon Duriel.

For Baal, Uravaar, and other Season 9 bosses:

  • You’ll need rare crafting items found inside Horadric Strongrooms, Helltide caches, and dungeon events.

  • Baal, in particular, is gated behind Betrayer’s Husks, which are a very rare drop from high-tier Strongrooms and elite monsters. They also drop occasionally from Tier 4 Pit Bosses and the Arcane Ritual Chest.

Step 3: Unlock the Summoning Altars

  • Go to the Tree of Whispers, Kyovashad, or Zir's Chapel depending on the boss.

  • Interact with the specific altar (e.g., the one for Duriel or Baal) and offer the required materials.

  • Bosses like Andariel require multi-step rituals or multiple dolls.

Step 4: Gear Preparation

Bosses in Season 9 hit harder than ever. Make sure:

  • You have the correct resistances (fire for Uravaar, poison for Duriel, shadow for Vashan).

  • Your build is optimized for burst or sustained damage depending on the boss.

  • Carry multiple elixirs, incense, and armor sigils to boost survivability.

Step 5: Optimize Your Farming Loop

  • Run content that gives you materials for multiple bosses at once—for example, Beast in the Ice gives dolls for Andariel, while also dropping solid loot.

  • Use your Nightmare Dungeon runs and Whispers rotations to double-dip on XP and boss mats.

  • If you’re farming in a group, rotate boss spawns so everyone contributes different parts (e.g., one player handles Strongrooms, another focuses on Helltide chests).
