Diablo II: Resurrected Season 14 PTR brings major changes to Latent Sunder Charms, making them more accessible but still challenging to farm. This guide will walk you through the latest D2R Latent Sunder Charm updates in 3.2, drop rates, farming locations & methods, and key tips to help you collect these valuable crafting materials.
New D2R Latent Sunder Charm Drop Rate & Farming (Season 14 & 3.2 RotW)
Latent Sunder Charms are a special type of charm introduced in D2R Reign of the Warlock expansion. They are the only Sunder Charm type that drops naturally in the game, and their main purpose is to serve as crafting materials for Renewed Sunder Charms (the upgraded, endgame-ready version). Unlike Renewed Sunder Charms, Latent ones cannot be used permanently in endgame builds because they come with harsh penalties that make them too risky for long-term use. All Latent Sunder Charms have a fixed level requirement: you must be level 75 to use them, and they have a Quality Level of 69.
Types of D2R Latent Sunder Charms
Latent Flame Rift (Fire): Breaks fire immunity of enemies. Penalty: Fire Resistance decreases by -90% to -70% (random value in this range).
Latent Cold Rupture (Cold): Breaks cold immunity of enemies. Penalty: Cold Resistance decreases by -90% to -70% (random value in this range).
Latent Crack of the Heavens (Lightning): Breaks lightning immunity of enemies. Penalty: Lightning Resistance decreases by -90% to -70% (random value in this range).
Latent Rotting Fissure (Poison): Breaks poison immunity of enemies. Penalty: Poison Resistance decreases by -90% to -70% (random value in this range).
Latent Bone Break (Physical): Breaks physical damage immunity of enemies. Penalty: Damage Reduced by -20% to -10% (this increases the physical damage you take, with a random value in this range).
Latent Black Cleft (Magic): Breaks magic damage immunity of enemies. Penalty: Magic Resistance decreases by -65% to -45% (random value in this range).
Main Changes to Latent Sunder Charms in D2R 3.2 Season 14
Blizzard Entertainment made significant changes to Latent Sunder Charms in the 3.2 PTR (Public Test Realm) for Season 14, based on player feedback. The main goal was to make these charms more accessible, as players previously complained that their drop rate and the spawn rate of Heralds were too low. Here are the most important changes you need to know, directly from the official D2R 3.2 PTR announcement:
1. Expanded Drop Pool
The biggest change is that Latent Sunder Charms can now drop from any monster in the game—whether the monster is in a Terrorized zone or not. All you need is Magic Find (MF) to increase your chances of getting them. This removes the old restriction that forced players to kill Heralds to get Latent Sunder Charms, making farming more flexible.
2. Herald-Related Drop Changes
Heralds still have an increased chance to drop Latent Sunder Charms, but the rules for this have been updated:
The increased drop chance for Latent Sunder Charms from Heralds now starts at Heralds of Dread (Tier 2), instead of Tier 4. This means you don’t have to grind to high-tier Heralds to get a better chance—Tier 2 Heralds already give you an increased shot.
The increased drop chance from Heralds is no longer heavily affected by the number of players in the game. Previously, player count had a big impact on drop rates, but now it’s much more consistent, whether you’re playing alone or in a group.
If the increased drop chance from a Herald fails to give you a Latent Sunder Charm, you have a higher chance of getting other desirable items instead, like regular charms or amulets. This means you won’t walk away empty-handed even if you don’t get the charm you want.
3. Herald Spawn Rate Improvements
Blizzard also increased the spawn rate of Heralds to make farming easier. Heralds now spawn and hunt players immediately after you kill any monster in a Terror Zone. The more monsters you kill in the same Terrorized Zone, the higher the chance a Herald will spawn and hunt you. The developers’ goal is for players to have a very high chance of seeing both Tier 1 and Tier 2 Heralds in a single Terror Zone, giving you more opportunities to get Latent Sunder Charms.
4. Other Relevant Changes
Colossal Ancient Statues (which can drop valuable loot) now drop from non-Terrorized act bosses, giving you another source of potential rewards while farming.
The chance to drop Worldstone Shards (used to trigger Terror Zones) is no longer modified by player count. This makes it easier to get Worldstone Shards, which are key for forcing Terror Zones to farm Heralds.
D2R Latent Sunder Charm Drop Rates (Season 14 & 3.2 RotW)
Latent Sunder Charms are still rare, but their drop rate has been increased compared to pre-Reign of the Warlock times. Magic Find affects the drop rate of Latent Sunder Charms, whether you’re killing regular monsters or Heralds. The higher your MF, the better your chances of getting a charm. The drop rate of Latent Sunder Charms from Heralds is the same across all Herald tiers. A common myth is that higher-tier Heralds have a higher drop rate, but this is not true. Early datamining got this wrong—higher-tier Heralds drop more total items overall, but their chance to drop a Latent Sunder Charm is the same as lower-tier ones. Only Token of the Ire (a special item) and Herald spawn rates were adjusted, not the charm drop rate per Herald. Even with the increased drop rates, you should expect to do dozens of full Terror Zone runs (or kill many regular monsters with high MF) to get a Latent Sunder Charm. They are still a rare item, so patience is key. The good news is that the changes make it easier to get multiple chances per run, so you won’t feel like you’re wasting time.

PTR 3.2 Changes & Table Notes
Herald bonus for Latent Sunder Charms now starts at Tier 2 (Heralds of Dread, 2/3) instead of Tier 4 (4/5).
Player count no longer heavily modifies the Herald drop bonus, so values are identical for solo, 2-player, and 8-player games.
Latent Sunders can now drop from both Terrorized and non-Terrorized monsters, with Magic Find applying to both sources.
Heralds now spawn much more frequently in Terror Zones, with the chance increasing as more monsters are killed in the same zone.
Tier 2 values are set to ~75% of Tier 4 (a reasonable balance estimate, as official exact coefficients are not published).
Tier 1 has no increased Sunder charm chance, only base drop rates.
Non-Terrorized zones use the same table values at roughly 30–40% effectiveness (no official exact ratio provided).
If the Herald Sunder roll fails, there is an increased chance to drop charms, amulets, or other desirable items instead.
Where to Farm Latent Sunder Charms in D2R Season 14?
Thanks to the 3.2 patch changes, you have two main places to farm Latent Sunder Charms: regular monsters (with MF) and Heralds in Terror Zones.
1. Regular Monsters (Anywhere, with Magic Find)
Since Latent Sunder Charms can now drop from any monster (Terrorized or not), you can farm them while doing any regular farming routes. However, some areas are better than others because they have high monster density and high monster levels.
2. Heralds in Terror Zones
Heralds still have an increased chance to drop Latent Sunder Charms, so farming them in Terror Zones is still the most efficient method. Terror Zones are special areas that rotate hourly, or you can trigger them using Worldstone Shards.
