Diablo 4 Season 9 has introduced a new farming exploit that allows players to infinitely reset Strongrooms and rake in an insane amount of Optite (Optoxite) and Forgotten Souls, all while gaining solid legendary loot and seasonal progression. Read this D4 Season 9 strongrooms farming guide, we'll break down the best strategy and build to farm.
Horadric Strongrooms are special, time-limited micro-dungeons found exclusively within Nightmare Dungeons and Escalating Nightmares in Diablo 4 Season 9. These treasure-packed rooms are hidden behind magical gateways and accessed through portals that appear only if you’re using a Nightmare Sigil—and even then, not all dungeons will contain one unless your sigil has the Horadric Strongroom affix, which guarantees a spawn. Inside a Strongroom, players must defeat elite enemies and complete timed objectives to unlock powerful rewards. Without further ado, let's dive into the best way to farm strongrooms in Diablo 4 Season 9.
Step 1: Create a Fresh Character
Make a new character (any class works, but Hydra Sorcerer is recommended for ease). Have a friend power-level you to ~Level 60 (or do a few Pit runs). Equip Torment 4 (T4) gear (glyphs not strictly necessary).
Step 2: Start (But Don’t Complete) the Season Questline
Open the Season Journey tab and select "The Embers Yet Smolder" (the first quest). Progress until you reach the Strongroom objective (do NOT complete the quest).
Step 3: Farm the Strongroom
Enter the Strongroom (Demons Wake dungeon). Clear the Strongroom normally (Hydras make this effortless). Open the final chest (you’ll get 1,700–3,000 Obducite per run). DO NOT pick up the Bloody Relic (this allows infinite resets). Leave Dungeon → Reset Dungeon (hotkey: H). Repeat (each run takes ~2 minutes).
Step 4: Optimize for Speed
Group Play: Have one player host on a fresh character while others join (no need for everyone to reset).
Solo Play: Perfect for players without Refinement Keys.
Loot Bonus: You also get Forgotten Souls, Sigils, and GA items per run.
Hydra Sorcerer Build is highly recommended due to auto-targeting pets, fast clear speeds and minimal gear/paragon requirements. Glyphs aren't needed; just equip some decent gear from 4–5 Pit runs or trade. Make sure you're running Torment IV difficulty to maximize Optite rewards, which scale with difficulty.

Progress toward seasonal reputation
1. Prioritize Pillar Speed Buffs and Extra Monsters
Increase pillar ritual speed – These shorten how long each pillar event takes.
Spawn additional monsters – More mobs = faster attunement gain.
Add ambush events or demon waves – These often provide huge chunks of progress.
Buff attunement per event – For example, shrine or pillar choices that add flat attunement % bonuses.
Pro Tip: The “Special Demon” choice (Asteroth’s hound) gives you a massive attunement boost but can be dangerous. Only take it if you're geared or confident in your build.
2. Stack Attunement Buffs Wisely
Certain modifiers give you +25% attunement if you're carrying shrine debuffs (like no potions or no dodge). These stack and significantly increase your gain rate. You can carry more than one debuff if you’re careful. They disappear when the Strongroom ends, so there's no long-term drawback. Watch for shrine effects that sync well with your build (e.g., can’t evade doesn’t matter if you teleport).
3. Route Smart: Maximize Buff Uptime
Start with a pillar to gain the temporary attunement buff (15s). Then immediately do a shrine event or another pillar while the buff is active to maximize value. Buffs don’t stack time, but you can chain them by rotating between multiple nearby events. If you're efficient, you can keep the buff active almost the whole run. Pillars reset after a short while—cycle between 2–3 nearby ones and keep the attunement flow going.
4. Avoid Empty Stretches
Don’t waste time running between empty zones. Always move with purpose from one event to the next—kill speed alone isn't enough; event density matters most.
5. Use Escalation Sigils for Stronger Rewards
Escalation sigils have a higher chance to roll Strongroom affixes and provide better loot. Test your DPS on a layer boss like Van before fighting Asteroth in escalation. If you're undergeared, do escalation runs on Torment 3 rather than 4 for safety.
6. Know When to End the Room
Once the attunement bar fills, the boss spawns instantly, so you don’t have to wait out the full timer. This makes efficient play even more rewarding. You’ll save time and increase your runs-per-hour significantly.
