Blizzard has just launched a surprise limited-time event in Diablo 4. From now until July 22, 2025 at 10:00 AM, earn wicked Gift of the Tree Caches from a limited time. If you want to know how to require these, read our Diablo 4 Gift of the Tree event guide.
All you need to do is complete Whispers (bounties on your map) and turn them in as usual at the Tree of Whispers. During the event, an additional bonus cache is awarded. The rewards scale with the difficulty level you’re playing on — higher Torments yield better rewards. This bonus is automatically activated on your character and is visually indicated by a buff icon on your UI. You won’t need to opt in, and your existing Whispers progress counts toward the bonus.
The Gift of the Tree event takes place anywhere you can complete Whispers on the world map, since the event is tied directly to the Tree of Whispers system. You can find event-eligible activities in any region that has active Whispers of the Dead bounties, which rotate every 90 minutes across the world. These regions include:
Fractured Peaks
Scosglen
Dry Steppes
Hawezar
Kehjistan
Gauntlet Zones (if Whispers spawn there)
How to Locate Whispers on the Map
Look for pink/red icons with special borders:
Pale Pink: 1 Grim Favor
Pink: 3 Grim Favors
Red Border: 5 Grim Favors (most efficient)
These appear on activities like:
Dungeon completions
Cellar clears
World events (ritual circles, cursed shrines)
Boss kills
PvP zones (sometimes)
During this event, every time you turn in your Whispers of the Dead at the Tree, you’ll receive bonus caches with enhanced loot. These aren’t your regular boxes of scraps — they come packed with some of the best possible materials in the game:
Millions of Diablo 4 gold
Greater Affix gear (GAs)
Gem fragments
Summoning materials for Exalted bosses
These bonus caches can significantly boost your progression, making this event ideal for both gearing up and prepping for endgame boss farming.
While the Gift of the Tree is active, returning completed grim favors will grant you a bonues Gift of the Tree Caches - a collection of chaos for your deeds done in service of the tree. Do not mistake their gifts for kindness.
Should You Farm It?
Yes, but with a caveat. The event makes Whisper turn-ins more rewarding, but it’s not meant to be your sole endgame activity. Think of it as a bonus incentive while you’re completing Tree objectives anyway. Still, if you’re looking to farm Forgotten Souls, level your gear, or just pad your gold reserves, this event is one of the most efficient ways to do so right now.
Complete Whispers Efficiently: Focus on quick tasks like elite kills, strongholds, and world events to earn Grim Favors fast without long dungeon clears.
Turn In for Bonus Caches: Every Whisper turn-in now grants an extra cache, which includes gold, gem fragments, materials, and exalted boss components.
Farm on Higher Difficulties: Running Whispers on Torment III or IV gives you better cache loot—higher gear rolls and more crafting mats.
Stack Events Together: Combine this event with Helltides, Legion Events, and Nightmare Dungeons to farm Forgotten Souls, XP, and Diablo 4 items.
4 all at once.
Play in Groups for Shared XP: Forgotten Wisdoms now grant shared XP to everyone nearby, making group play highly efficient for leveling.
Bulk Turn-In Strategy: Save up multiple full sets of Grim Favors and turn them in all at once to minimize downtime and increase reward pacing.
Use Rewards Immediately: Use the influx of materials and gold to masterwork gear, craft sigils, and prep for high-tier Pit or boss runs.
With this patch, unique item buffs now apply retroactively — meaning you do NOT need to re-farm or re-acquire newly dropped versions of buffed uniques. Any old unique items in your stash or equipped gear will automatically roll over to include the new values.
For example, the Death Mask item for Rogue previously had a 70x multiplier, but after the patch it’s now a 100x multiplier. Players confirmed that the existing items in their inventory updated instantly, reflecting the new stats. This is a big quality-of-life win and eliminates the need for frustrating RNG re-grinds when balance updates happen.
The Pit system has also been improved in this update. Previously, you needed multiple Runeshards to open each Pit run. But now, once you reach Pit Tier 85, you can run the Pit infinitely without consuming additional Runeshards.
This change is a huge buff for endgame players looking to grind leaderboard spots, maximize gear optimization, or test new builds. It removes a major resource bottleneck and streamlines high-end farming. Combined with better Forgotten Soul rewards and the Whispers event bonus cache.
