The anticipation around Elden Ring Nightreign continues to grow, especially with news about the upcoming DLC. Players are eager for new content, especially after experiencing the unique multiplayer focus and challenging bosses that define Nightreign. Here’s a look at everything currently known about the Nightreign DLC, including the release date and what players can expect in terms of content.
There’s no need to wonder if Nightreign will get new DLC, the first expansion is already confirmed and available for pre-purchase in the deluxe and other premium editions. According to official information, the DLC is set to arrive in Quarter 4 of 2025. This timeframe means fans can expect a Elden Ring Nightreign DLC release window somewhere between October 1st and December 31st, 2025.
The developers have acknowledged the strong response from the community, reaching 3.5 million players within five days of launch. They also confirmed that new additions, such as enhanced fights against existing nightlords, will start rolling out this year, with duos mode arriving before the DLC. While there’s no official date for crossplay yet, it’s clear that the team is listening to feedback and planning further updates following the DLC’s launch.
There are the main content areas anticipated for the Elden Ring Nightreign DLC, based on current information and community discussion:
For future content, the already announced DLC is currently underway in development. The content for that will be focused on mainly new playable characters and new boss encounters. It is confirmed that more Nightfarers are coming, and there is widespread speculation about what kinds of roles these new characters could fill. There is an absence of a dedicated healer in the current lineup; Revenant and Recluse can use faith-based miracles and healing spells, but they are still primarily combat roles. A character whose skills focus on healing teammates or granting buffs would fill a real need, possibly in the form of a priestess, cleric, or paladin. Other possibilities being discussed include a perfumer, a dragon cultist, or even a deprived class with no abilities and terrible stats.
The hardest part to predict is the new Nightlords, as there are no clear archetypes to follow and they could take any form. Each boss in Nightreign tends to represent a certain attribute. Gladius represents fire, Libra represents frenzy, Augur represents sleep, and Sentient Pest represents magic. Some attributes are still missing, and the DLC is expected to introduce new bosses to fill these gaps. There is currently no boss that deals with destined death, similar to Maleketh, so a destined death wizard Nightlord could appear. Another possibility is a poison-themed boss, such as a giant snake Nightlord that can afflict poison, scarlet rot, or death blight. Nightlords in Nightreign are designed for three-player battles, and the DLC may introduce even more challenging and unique boss designs, elevating the challenge level and offering fresh experiences.
One major expectation for the DLC is the inclusion of more Dark Souls bosses. The demand for iconic bosses from the Dark Souls trilogy is strong. Instead of repeatedly facing the Nox Dragon Soldier or Draconic Tree Sentinel with Landell soldiers, players want to encounter legendary foes such as Artorias, Manus, Midir, Gael, or Fume Knight. The existing Dark Souls bosses, such as Nameless King, Dancer, and Smelter Demon, are considered highlights of the current boss roster. The DLC is expected to bring more of these memorable fights to Nightreign, increasing variety and replay value.
It is also expected that at least one new shifting earth event will be included. Analysis of the map shows a big empty portion in the top right where a new shifting earth event could easily be placed. This could introduce a new biome, such as Leyndell, the Haligtree, a big golden royal castle variant, or something from Shadow of the Erdtree, areas that were present in the base game but are missing in Nightreign. Improvements to event spawn rates are also hoped for, as some events like the Scarlet Rot Forest are rarely encountered despite player demand for more frequent and surprising world events.
It is widely expected that Shadow of the Erdtree content will show up in the DLC. It is seen as a given that all the weapons from Elden Ring’s DLC will be included in Nightreign. This addition would open the door for new class types like a perfumer Nightfarer or even a martial artist type character using dry leaf arts. As for bosses from Shadow of the Erdtree, if continuity with the lore was not a concern, iconic bosses from the expansion could appear. However, to avoid continuity issues, the best fights from the DLC are unlikely to be included. There will probably be a return of the lion dance fight, as that is a recurring battle, and possibly Commander Gas under a different name. Other likely boss candidates include ghost flame dragons, red bears, death knights, and furnace golems.
The developers have confirmed that duos mode will be introduced before the DLC, addressing one of the main requests from the player base. While crossplay is still unconfirmed, the community remains hopeful that news will arrive after the DLC’s launch. Voice chat or a more robust communication system is also a recurring request, as current options are limited.
