The Everdark Sovereign version Cof aligo Miasma of Night launched on August 7, 2025. How to get the new relic reward upon defeating the boss? In this article, we break down the Elden Ring Everdark Sovereign Caligo rewards, phases, fight strategy, best character class and builds.
The Everdark Sovereign variant of Caligo Miasma of Night, which is also known as Fissure in the Fog, is available now. This is a limited-time Expedition, only lasts for one week. This version enhances the base Caligo encounter with a new phase and powerful ice armor mechanics. You may need a proper strategy to beat the Everdark Sovereign Caligo and win the new relics.
1. 25 Sovereign Sigils
These items are used as a type of currency that can be used to buy relics, chalices, and other items or services with the Collector Signboard.
2. Everdark Caligo Relic - Dark Night of the Miasma
Defeating Everdark Sovereign Caligo Miasma of Night for the first time, you can unlock a relic called Dark Night of the Miasma at the shop of the Collector Signboard, which needs to be exchanged with Sovereign Sigil x 12. You can even equip this relic together with the original relic for combined effects. This relic has three main effects:
It makes frostbite build up around you when near enemies (frostbite in vicinity).
Your starting armament applies frost buildup to enemies.
It improves your physical damage negation, helping reduce the damage you take from physical attacks.
The enhanced Everdark Caligo has a new phase; its first phase is basically the same as the second half of the regular version.
Phase 1: The Flying Ice Bombardment
Caligo starts the fight by flying and firing ice shards. This attack is fast and covers a lot of ground, so rushing forward and using all stamina to close distance is risky. Instead, prepare to dodge the flying attack carefully, then strike when Caligo lands. This phase mirrors the second half of the regular Caligo fight, focusing on managing his aerial assault and hitting him at close range.
Phase 2: Ice Armor and Everdark Mode
When Caligo’s health drops to around 60-70%, he transitions to phase two. This phase starts with a very noticeable animation: he folds his wings, and a deep blue mist surrounds him as he pulls in cold air. This signals the start of his Everdark mode, where he covers himself in Velcana-coated ice armor over his entire body. At the end of this armor-forming animation, Caligo unleashes a powerful frost explosion around him, applying frostbite if you’re caught in it. This moment is a key opportunity for attacks, especially those with invincibility frames like ultimate moves, but be cautious, as some ultimates won’t stagger him during this animation. If you stagger him with regular attacks during this time, the ice armor formation resets, giving you more chances to deal damage. After donning ice armor, Caligo immediately performs a repositioning hop, then summons a massive icicle from the ground. This icicle explodes into a wide frost whirlwind. The best way to avoid this is to run straight away from the icicle as soon as it appears on the ground.
You can break the ice armor by attacking specific body parts such as the head, legs, wings, and tail. His tail gains a huge range with attacks that can be projected and trigger ground explosions. Breaking armor on three different parts causes Caligo to lose all ice armor and become staggered. When staggered, he quickly tries to reapply his full ice armor with the same long animation, during which you can safely deal heavy damage if you avoid his final frost explosion.
Tips for Making the Fight Easier
The enhanced Caligo has similar move sets to the base Caligo, but it can deal a lot more damage. To beat the Everdark Sovereign version easily, there are lots of things that help you.
Prepare for the frostbite buildup
Caligo deals heavy frostbite damage. Reduce frostbite buildup by selecting the Mountaintop Shifting Earth event before the fight. This event offers multiple frostbite resistance powers and a 50% slower frostbite buildup speed. It also grants bonus damage after being frostbitten, which can turn frostbite into an advantage.
Use anti-dragon and fire damage effects
The Mountaintop Shifting Earth event also gives a dormant power that increases damage against dragon enemies by 20%. Since Caligo is a dragon, this power is very helpful. Fire damage is particularly effective against Caligo, so bringing fire weapons or fire spells is highly recommended.
Avoid multi-hit attacks when possible
Caligo’s attacks often hit multiple times, especially his frost breath and whirlwind attacks. Using weapons or equipment with passive damage reduction against multi-hit attacks can help you survive longer.
Focus on breaking ice armor quickly
Target specific body parts to break the ice armor. Once three parts are broken, Caligo loses the armor completely and is staggered, giving you a chance to deal massive damage safely.
Use eyeframes and guard smartly
During the ice armor charge animation, use attacks with invincibility frames or guard well to avoid the frost explosion at the end. This allows you to deal a significant amount of damage while Caligo is vulnerable.
Wylder
Wylder is the top choice for facing Everdark Sovereign Caligo. His character skills create lasting fire damage around him, so even if you’re not actively attacking, you still deal fire damage, which Caligo is very weak to. Wylder also has a grappling hook that lets him move quickly, making it easier to dodge Caligo’s large, dangerous attacks. Since Wylder focuses on strength, he can wield heavy strike weapons that often come with fire affinity, making his attacks even more effective against this frosty dragon.
Raider
Raider is another excellent option for the fight. He has access to a wide range of weapons that deal strike damage and can carry fire-affinity weapons, which work well against Caligo's frost defenses. Raider’s character skill offers damage negation, which helps him survive the boss’s powerful hits during the most dangerous moments of the battle. His totem ability also helps stagger Caligo, interrupting its attacks and creating openings to land more damage.
Other Nightfarers, such as Revenant and Recluse can also take on this boss if you prefer using fire-based spells. These classes can focus on casting fire incantations or sorceries to deal damage from a distance. While they can be effective, Wylder and Raider tend to provide the clearest and most reliable way to bring down Caligo thanks to their strong melee fire attacks and survivability.
A fire strike build is highly recommended to cheese Caligo Miasma of Night Everdark Sovereign.
Weapons
Greatswords or other strike-type weapons with fire affinity are ideal. Caligo has a high weakness to fire and strike damage. Examples include Troll's Hammer, Cranial Vessel Candlestand & Devourer's Scepter. Try to obtain two fire affinity strike weapons of the same type for power stance attacks, which can deliver heavy damage quickly. You can also bring a friend and both use fire weapons.
Armor and Talismans
Equip items that reduce frostbite buildup and increase resistances to magic damage, as Caligo deals a lot of magical frost damage. Defensive gear that boosts physical damage negation also helps, especially since Caligo mixes physical and magical damage.
Use talismans that grant damage reduction against multi-hit attacks to survive his barrage of frost breath and icicle attacks.
Spells and Incantations
Use fire-based incantations or sorceries to increase damage output.
Keep healing and frostbite cure spells ready to maintain your health.
