Elden Ring Nightreign is set to start at midnight EDT on May 30, 2025. Which characters to pick for beginners? Here we’ll provide an Elden Ring Nightreign tier list to rank from the easiest to hardest class in and choose the best one for early game solo or group play.
Elden Ring Nightreign has a total of 8 classes or Nightfarers in the game, each Nightfarer has unique skills, starting equipment, and stats. What to note is that you can only choose between 6 of them at the beginning, Duchess and Revenant need to be unlocked by meeting certain conditions. The following tier list ranks Nightreign characters from the easiest to hardest based on the known information, the difficulty will change with the adjustment of the game.
1. Guardian - S Tier (Easiest)
Guardian is accessible in the Network Test and is one of the easiest classes to play in Elden Ring Nightreign. This Nightfarer probably has the lowest skill floor to learn and the largest health pool initially out of all of them. You can walk away even get multiple hits. Each character comes with a passive ability, a character skill, and an ultimate art. The Steel Guard passive of Guardian can provide powerful guard for him, you just use the shield to block instead of dodging. The Whirlwind skill can whip up a wind-churning cyclone. While the Wings of Salvation can also save entire groups from wipe situations.
2. Wylder - S Tier (Best Easy Class for Solo)
Wylder is a Nightfarer who can be chosen in the Network Test Version, an excellent choice for new players to start with, especially for solo play, but you may need some time to master it. It is a solid class for both offense and defense with a shield for blocking and parrying, a greatword with decent range and damage. His Sixth Sense passive ability provides a chance to avoid death. The Claw Shot skill allows him to pull enemies out of groups and move quickly, while the Onslaught Stake ultimate art can launch an iron stake with a great explosion and strong damage.
3. Ironeye - A Tier (Best Easy Class for Group)
As a ranger class focused on bow usage, Ironeye excels at long-range combat. He got the passive ability - Eagle Eye, which helps him find more items and increases the loot. While the Marking injures the enemy temporarily, this can be extremely effective in teams. You can target a boss and hit it to stop it from doing whatever it was going to do, then your allies can make a consecutive attack. The ultimate Single Shot can fire a powerful arrow that ignores any defense.
4. Raider - B Tier
This class has Fighter's Resolve, allowing it to tank hits and retaliate with counterattacks. While his raw power, high stagger potential, and Retaliate skill make him strong in trades and solo play, his slow mobility and reliance on precise timing hold him back. He excels against slower enemies but struggles against fast, agile bosses, forcing players to master attack windows and positioning to avoid being punished. A sustainability issue makes it slightly more challenging than the previous classes, but still manageable for most players.
5. Duchess - B Tier
Positioned as a rogue-type class, the Duchess uses daggers and has a Bloodborne-style dash evade with greater eye frames. Its Restage skill reflects the last few seconds of damage, which can be powerful when coordinated with team attacks. The Duchess is a class that struggles with survivability but excels in speed and burst damage. Unlike beginner-friendly classes like Guardian or Wylder, he has low defense and relies on perfect dodging and stealth to survive. His playstyle revolves around quick attacks, invisibility, and stacking status effects, making him strong in skilled hands but punishing for newcomers.
6. Executor - C Tier
Executor has a really high skill ceiling, so it is not easy to play for beginners, but it can potentially be a meta class. This is a dexterity and arcane-focused class with katanas as the preferred weapon types, but you can use other DEX weapons. The passive of Executor is called Tenacity, which gives you a boost while recovering from status ailments. For the Suncatcher skill, when you are wielding a curse sword, you can press L1 to deflect or L2 to use the skill. You can deflect most attacks in the game. When you deflect enough attacks, the curse sword begins to transform and glow like a holy buff. You can do the strike in a charged-up state to make it stronger. If you press the ultimate skill, Aspects of the Crucible: Beast, and transform into this large wolf beast, you will gain a big health boost for its duration.
7. Revenant - C Tier
The Revenant class has strong support and summoning utility but suffers from low survivability and boss-fight weaknesses. While its free spirits and team-wide immortality ultimate make it great for crowd control and support, its fragile health pool and ineffective summons against bosses force players to rely on precise positioning and timing, it is not a beginner-friendly choice.
8. Recluse - D Tier
Recluse is more difficult to play than Executor, issues with this Nightfarer are the incredible skills and lowest health pool; it is less ideal for new players. As a spellcaster, the Recluse has a complicated skill set with the Magic Cocktail ability that requires understanding elemental combinations. While the ultimate Soulblood Song offers good sustain, the low health pool makes this class vulnerable, especially early on. The complexity of mastering elemental combinations and the risk of one-shot kills make this class harder to use.
