Elden Ring Nightreign Best Weapon & Build for Each Class (Early Game)

5/29/2025 10:29:32 AM

In Elden Ring Nightreign, success is about choosing the right weapon for your current character and adapting to each run. Every expedition starts fresh, so instead of building a long-term character, your focus should be on short-term synergy between your Nightfarer and your gear. Here we are going to give our suggestions on the best weapon and build styles for each of the eight playable classes based on gameplay experience from all beta testing.

Elden Ring Nightreign Best Weapons & Builds for All Nightfarers

In Elden Ring: Nightreign, there is no single best weapon for everyone, only the best weapon for your character in your current run. Each of the eight Nightfarers has a distinct playstyle, and choosing the right gear to match their strengths is the key to getting the most out of every expedition. Every run starts fresh, with fast leveling through rune collection and temporary upgrades. Because there's no permanent character build, your weapon choice matters in the moment.

Here we give you some weapon and build suggestions for your initial class setup based on the known information and the gameplay in the previous test! Hope it can help you level quickly and get easy wins!

1. Wylder Best Weapon & Build

Wylder is the all-rounder. He starts with a greatsword that has the weapon skill Stamp: Upward Cut, which braces you in a low stance before delivering a powerful upward slash. He also begins with a small shield that has Buckler Parry, allowing you to deflect attacks and follow with a critical hit.

Wylder is built to be flexible. He can be played with a wide variety of weapons, from greatswords to dual scythes with blood loss, and they all work well. His passive ability, Sixth Sense, allows him to cheat death once per match. His skill, Clawshot, lets him pull enemies toward him or pull himself into enemies. His ultimate, Onslaught Stake, launches an iron stake that deals a large explosion of damage.

Greatswords pair well with Wylder, but he can just as easily succeed with other melee builds. He’s ideal for players who want freedom in how they play each run.

Recommended Build: Balanced Melee Hybrid

  • Primary Weapon: Greatsword (or dual scythes with blood loss)

  • Backup Weapon: Small shield with parry

  • Relics: Relics that boost greatsword follow-up effects or enhance survivability

  • Playstyle: Adaptable melee with some mobility and defense

  • Strategy: Use Clawshot to engage or control space, and Onslaught Stake for burst damage. Wylder’s flexibility lets you experiment with both light and heavy weapons.

2. Guardian Best Weapon & Build

The Guardian is a strength-based, tank-heavy character who starts with a halberd and a skill called Charge Force, which lets you charge forward and thrust into an enemy. He focuses on defense and crowd control.

His passive, Steel Guard, improves blocking at the cost of movement speed. With this, you consume less stamina while blocking and can absorb heavier hits. His skill, Whirlwind, sprouts wings and creates a cyclone that lifts enemies. His ultimate, Aegis Fall, is a leaping slam that creates a protective area, dealing damage and reviving nearby allies. It’s also a strong attack and provides immunity during the animation.

Guardian is suited for players who want to absorb damage, protect allies, and hold the front line.

Recommended Build: Halberd + Shield Tank

  • Primary Weapon: Halberd or spear

  • Secondary Weapon: Heavy shield for blocking

  • Relics: Stamina reduction while blocking; HP boosts

  • Playstyle: Defensive anchor and protector

  • Strategy: Use Steel Guard to absorb incoming damage and Whirlwind to control groups. Dive into danger with Aegis Fall to revive allies and zone enemies.

3. Duchess Best Weapon & Build

Duchess is a fast, dexterity-based rogue who excels in mobility and evasion. She starts with Duchess's Dagger, which includes a magic enchantment that buffs her weapon. Her build rewards movement and chaining dodges.

Her passive, Magnificent Pose, allows repeated dodges and seamless movement. Her skill, Restage, replays recent damage on enemies, letting you duplicate burst damage. Her ultimate, Finale, turns her and nearby allies invisible and drops enemy aggro until you attack again.

Fast weapons with bleed, poison, or rot effects are extremely effective. Dual-wielding daggers or curved blades are ideal. Duchess is a highly mobile class built for hit-and-run tactics and status effect pressure.

Recommended Build: Dual Dagger Bleed/Poison Build

  • Primary Weapon: Dual daggers or curved swords with bleed/poison/rot

  • Secondary Weapon: Lightweight backup blade

  • Relics: Status effect boosters (bleed, poison, rot)

  • Playstyle: Fast, evasive, and damage-over-time focused

  • Strategy: Chain dodges with Magnificent Pose, apply pressure with rapid strikes, and use Restage after big damage windows. Finale is great for stealth repositioning.

4. Recluse Weapon & Build

Recluse is a ranged spellcaster focused on intelligence. He starts with Recluse’s Staff, which includes Glintstone Pebble and Glintstone Arc. Staves in Nightreign bind two spells to light and heavy attacks, so finding staves with good spell combinations is important.

His passive, Elemental Defense, lets him collect elemental residues to replenish FP. These are tied to his skill, Magic Cocktail, which absorbs elemental energy and transforms it into a powerful spell. The spell changes based on the color and number of residues collected.

His ultimate, Soul Blood Song, places blood sigils on enemies. When nightfarers attack those enemies, they restore health and FP. Recluse is a strong support caster who can deal consistent ranged damage and keep the team alive.

Recommended Build: Elemental Staff Build

  • Primary Weapon: High-damage staff with good spell pairings

  • Secondary Weapon: Light melee weapon for backup

  • Relics: FP regeneration, spell power boosts

  • Playstyle: Supportive and ranged spell DPS

  • Strategy: Use Magic Cocktail to absorb elemental residues and cast varied effects. Soul Blood Song provides team healing and FP recovery, great for long fights.

5. Iron Eye Weapon & Build

Iron Eye is a ranged class built around bows. He starts with a bow that has Mighty Shot, a charged arrow that pierces enemy defenses. Bows in Nightreign are faster and more accessible, with unlimited ammo and a revamped targeting system.

His passive, Eagle Eye, increases rare loot drops. His skill, Marking, tags enemies to create weak points and allows movement through them. His ultimate, Single Shot, fires a massive arrow that pierces all enemies in its path and deals huge damage.

Iron Eye stays at range, deals damage, and supports the team by reviving allies or weakening enemies. Ideal for players who prefer ranged combat and loot hunting.

Recommended Build: Precision Bow DPS

  • Primary Weapon: Longbow with Mighty Shot or multi-shot

  • Secondary Weapon: Light melee or backup dagger if needed

  • Relics: Increased loot drop rate, ranged crit damage

  • Playstyle: Long-range damage dealer and looter

  • Strategy: Stay at range, mark enemies with Marking, and pierce defenses with Single Shot. Use Eagle Eye to farm rare loot and support allies from afar.

6. Raider Best Weapon & Build

Raider is a strength-based melee character who starts with a great axe and the skill Endure, which temporarily protects from damage and boosts poise. He focuses on heavy weapons and aggressive melee combat.

His passive, Fighter’s Resolve, prevents knockback while using his skill. His character skill, Retaliate, is a powerful punch that can stagger even large enemies. His ultimate, Totem Stellar, summons a giant tombstone that deals damage and buffs nearby allies.

Raider is built for players who want to go all-in on melee damage. Big axes, greatswords, and colossal weapons fit his playstyle.

Recommended Build: Great Axe or Colossal Weapon Bruiser

  • Primary Weapon: Great axe, colossal sword, or hammer

  • Secondary Weapon: Another heavy weapon or utility item

  • Relics: Poise boosts, damage resistance, melee buffs

  • Playstyle: High-damage, close-range brawler

  • Strategy: Use Retaliate during damage trades to counter hard. Totem Stellar boosts nearby allies and serves as both support and offense.

7. Executor Best Weapon & Build

Executor starts with a katana and focuses on parrying. While full details are limited, he has a parry mechanic that seems to be central to his build. The weapon glows gold during parries, suggesting possible links to holy damage or faith-based skills.

Executor may combine melee and faith abilities, possibly using parries to empower counterattacks. While not much is officially confirmed, he likely fills the role of a melee damage dealer with an emphasis on timing and precision.

Recommended Build: Katana Parry-Faith Hybrid

  • Primary Weapon: Katana with parry capability

  • Secondary Weapon: Faith-based weapon or talisman

  • Relics: Parry timing buffs, holy damage increase

  • Playstyle: Reactive, timing-based melee with possible faith scaling

  • Strategy: Rely on parries for damage and counters. Potentially mix in holy or light-based attacks. Use precise timing and position for advantage.

8. Revenant Best Weapon & Build

Revenant is the most mysterious Nightfarer. Footage shows a harp-like bow and finger seals, suggesting a faith-based summoner. The only confirmed detail is that Revenant can summon spirits to assist in combat.

This class may be suited for solo play or support, offering flexible spirit-summoning abilities. It appears to be faith-focused, possibly the counterpart to Recluse’s intelligence magic. Revenant may rely on incantations and summoned creatures to deal damage and support allies.

Recommended Build: Faith-Based Summoner Support

  • Primary Weapon: Finger seals or summoning items

  • Secondary Weapon: Harp bow or melee backup

  • Relics: FP regeneration, summon duration or damage boosts

  • Playstyle: Supportive caster with summoned allies

  • Strategy: Use spirit summons to distract or deal damage. Likely benefits from incantations or healing/support spells for hybrid utility. Great for solo or co-op support.
