Patch 12.2: Eclipse is a major turning point for Midnight, because it is not just a normal Season 3 content patch. It adds a new game mode, expands endgame activities, introduces new class/race combinations, significantly improves Housing, and sets up the road toward the next expansion. If you're looking for Midnight 12.2 best classes and specs for Season 3, this guide is for you.
Midnight 12.2 Best Class - WoW Midnight Season 3 Tier List & Ranking
In this Midnight 12.2 DPS, Tank, and Healer Tier List, we rank all DPS, tank, and healer specializations based on their current Mythic+ performance, damage or healing output, survivability, utility, group synergy, and representation in higher-level keys. Rather than looking at raw numbers alone, the rankings consider how well each specialization performs in real dungeon environments and how much value it brings to a Mythic+ group. Keep in mind that this WoW Midnight 12.2 tier list is a snapshot of the Season 3 meta rather than a permanent ranking
Midnight 12.2 DPS Tier List
The biggest factors behind the ranking are actual high-key performance, consistency across top players, Mythic+ damage profiles, burst/priority damage, and class utility. A spec having one player doing extremely high keys is not enough to automatically make it S Tier; the source repeatedly distinguishes between exceptional individual players and consistent performance across the top of the ladder.S Tier: Arms Warrior
Arms Warrior is arguably the strongest DPS in the early Midnight 12.2 Mythic+ meta. Its Slayer build is performing particularly well, with Bladestorm and Execute forming a powerful damage profile. The source even suggests Arms may be doing more damage than Arcane, although the author hopes it avoids a nerf because this level of performance is something Arms players have been waiting for.
S Tier : Arcane Mage
Arcane Mage is another obvious S-tier choice. It is described as absolutely dominating the damage meters, with an excellent combination of AoE, priority damage, and single-target performance. Prismatic Bolt further strengthens its single-target toolkit. Mage also brings valuable utility for dealing with curses, which makes Arcane even more attractive in the current dungeon pool.
S Tier : Elemental Shaman
Elemental Shaman is arguably the biggest surprise. Its damage is extremely high, while Shaman utility makes it even more valuable. Skyfury provides a powerful offensive buff, while Poison Cleansing Totem and curse-related utility are valuable in the current dungeon environment. This combination of high DPS + strong utility is why Elemental can compete directly with Arcane and Arms for the top spot.
A Tier: Assassination Rogue
Assassination Rogue is very close to S Tier. Some of the highest keys already feature Assassination, and it is currently the strongest Rogue specialization according to the source. However, its overall representation is slightly less consistent than Arms and Arcane, so A Tier is a reasonable distinction.
A Tier: Feral Druid
Feral Druid has enough potential to justify A Tier and could arguably be considered for S Tier. One of the highest keys is already being completed with Feral, while the spec offers uncapped AoE, Mark of the Wild, and the ability to remove important debuffs such as curses and poisons. The main problem is consistency: only a small number of top Feral players are currently reaching the highest key levels.
A Tier: Outlaw Rogue
Outlaw Rogue is performing surprisingly well and is close to Assassination. Rogue as a class is having an excellent season, with multiple Rogue specs appearing near the top of the rankings. Outlaw also benefited from damage and quality-of-life improvements, including better Killing Spree targeting.
A Tier: Fury Warrior
Fury Warrior is another pleasant surprise. It retains strong single-target damage through Bloodthirst while converting that power into AoE through Whirlwind interactions. Its Season 2 tier set also improves Recklessness, giving Fury stronger burst windows.
A Tier: Havoc Demon Hunter
Havoc Demon Hunter has also shown signs of a comeback. Although Devourer was expected to be stronger, Havoc is appearing in some of the highest keys and can produce extremely impressive damage. Its value could become even greater if the meta favors magical damage compositions because of Demon Hunter's magic-damage utility.
A Tier: Unholy DK
Unholy DK remains a reliable A-tier DPS. Its damage profile is consistent, and Clawing Shadows allows it to maintain much of its damage from range, which is particularly useful when melee players are forced away from bosses. Its major weakness is that Death Knight does not offer as much desirable utility as some competing classes.
A Tier: Retribution Paladin
Retribution Paladin is simply very reliable. It has strong damage, easy-to-use utility, Blessing of Protection, poison removal, and powerful defensive options such as Divine Shield. Those tools make it especially useful in Mythic+ even when its raw DPS isn't at the very top.
A Tier: Balance Druid
Balance Druid has improved significantly and is performing around the 17–18 key range. Its uncapped AoE scaling makes it attractive when large pulls become part of the meta, while Mark of the Wild and curse/poison utility add further value.
A Tier: Demonology Warlock
Demonology Warlock maintains a strong position thanks to good damage and improved survivability. A fix to Soul Leech also makes Warlocks generally tankier, which helps Demo remain a reliable Mythic+ option.
A Tier: Shadow Priest
Shadow Priest is a surprising A-tier placement. It is performing better than expected, and Archon remains the preferred build, while Voidweaver can provide stronger upfront burst in lower keys. However, the source does not expect Shadow Priest to become a true meta-defining spec because of its mobility, survivability, and weaker utility compared with competing classes.
B Tier: Enhancement Shaman
Enhancement Shaman is one of the specs that may be underrated. Its current performance is more consistent than Devastation Evoker, while Shaman utility gives it additional value through Skyfury, poison dispels, and totems. The source believes Enhancement could potentially rise if players discover stronger builds or if the surrounding meta develops in its favor.
B Tier: Marksmanship Hunter
Marksmanship Hunter is performing more consistently than Beast Mastery, with top players reaching the 16–17 key range. Its recent Explosive Shot changes may also give it more useful burst. However, its current damage does not justify placing it in the upper tiers yet.
B Tier: Frost DK
Frost DK sits comfortably in B Tier. Its four-piece tier set adds more passive AoE, which is useful in Mythic+, but its damage currently falls behind the strongest specs. It also lacks the broader utility that classes such as Shaman and Druid bring.
B Tier: Devastation Evoker
Devastation Evoker is difficult to rank because its top players are performing much better than the rest of its representation. A few Devastation players are reaching 17–18 keys, but most of the top players are much lower. The source therefore takes the middle ground rather than assuming that the best individual players represent the entire specialization.
C Tier: Beast Mastery Hunter
Beast Mastery Hunter has some impressive individual performances, but not enough consistency to justify a higher ranking. One or two exceptional players can push high keys, but the broader representation is considerably weaker. Its potential may increase if physical-damage compositions become dominant because BM brings Bloodlust while dealing physical damage.
C Tier: Fire Mage
Fire Mage has a good damage profile and benefits from many of the same strengths that make Arcane attractive. It can funnel single-target damage into AoE, making it useful against priority targets surrounded by other enemies. However, Arcane is currently performing substantially better, leaving Fire in C Tier.
C Tier: Survival Hunter
Survival Hunter is another major surprise. Some players expected it to be one of the strongest Hunter specs, but its current representation does not support that expectation. Its explosive damage and melee utility are useful, but its numbers are currently only enough for C Tier.
D Tier: Destruction Warlock
Destruction Warlock is performing better than the bottom tier but still trails Demonology significantly. A recent Rain of Fire buff could potentially improve its position, but the source had not yet seen enough evidence that the change would transform Destruction's Mythic+ performance.
F Tier: Affliction
Affliction Warlock is one of the weakest Mythic+ specs in the early season. Its fundamental problem is its damage profile: optimizing its AoE can leave its single-target damage too weak, while Mythic+ requires both strong AoE and reliable priority/boss damage. The source also argues that Warlock's dungeon curse utility has not been strong enough to compensate for its damage problems.
F Tier: Augmentation Evoker
Augmentation Evoker has experienced one of the biggest falls. Its utility is less valuable in the current season, and the spec is seeing very little representation in the highest keys. The source is skeptical that it will make the enormous jump from F to S that it experienced previously.
F Tier: Frost Mage
Frost Mage is perhaps the biggest surprise at the bottom. Despite the Mage class being extremely strong because of its utility and Arcane's damage, Frost is several key levels behind Arcane and Arms. The source emphasizes that this is still an early-season snapshot, so there is room for the specialization to recover.
Midnight 12.2 Tank Tier List
This Midnight 12.2 Tank Tier List is mainly evaluating the six tank specializations through Mythic+ performance, defensive strength, damage, utility, popularity, and high-key representation. The source specifically looks at data from Raider.io and Archon and discusses the state of the tanks a couple of weeks into Season 2.
S Tier: Blood Death Knight
Blood Death Knight is the clear S-tier tank and the current benchmark for Mythic+. The biggest reason is that Blood DK is performing extremely well in both damage and survivability. Unlike several other tanks that specialize in either damage or defensive power, Blood DK is currently doing both exceptionally well.
S Tier: Guardian Druid
Guardian Druid is the biggest surprise of the season and deserves the other S-tier position. Its greatest advantage is raw tankiness. Guardian Druid can absorb enormous amounts of incoming damage and is extremely difficult to kill. This becomes increasingly valuable as Mythic+ keys get higher and tank damage becomes more threatening.
A Tier: Protection Paladin
Protection Paladin is strong, but clearly weaker than preseason expectations. Paladin remains extremely popular because of its powerful group utility and interrupt capabilities. It can bring useful tools to a Mythic+ group and remains one of the most frequently played tanks overall.
A Tier: Protection Warrior
Protection Warrior has performed at least as well as expected, making it a strong A-tier tank. Its biggest strength is damage. This is important because tank DPS has become increasingly valuable in Mythic+. A tank that can survive comfortably while also contributing significant damage helps the entire group meet dungeon timers.
B Tier: Brewmaster Monk
Brewmaster is one of the most unusual tanks in the current meta. Its defensive performance is actually excellent, especially in high-level Mythic+. Brewmaster is surprisingly well represented among top-100 tank runs despite being by far the least popular tank overall.
B Tier: Vengeance Demon Hunter
Vengeance Demon Hunter is currently the weakest tank overall. This doesn't mean it is unplayable. In fact, its damage is relatively competitive. The bigger problem is its defensive toolkit.
Midnight 12.2 Healer Tier List
The Midnight 12.2 Healer Tier List has a fairly clear separation between the strongest and weakest healers in Mythic+. Holy Paladin and Restoration Shaman are leading the meta, while Preservation Evoker and Mistweaver Monk remain strong alternatives. Restoration Druid, Holy Priest, and Discipline Priest sit lower because of gameplay limitations, weaker dungeon scaling, or poor mana efficiency.
S+ Tier: Holy Paladin
Holy Paladin is the best healer in the current Midnight 12.2 Mythic+ meta and takes the only S+ position on this World of Warcraft healer tier list. The biggest advantage of Holy Paladin is that it can provide extremely reliable healing without depending entirely on major cooldowns. Its strong healing toolkit allows Paladins to handle difficult healing checks while also contributing respectable damage. The specialization is also naturally durable, which is particularly valuable in high Mythic+ keys where healers can be targeted by dangerous mechanics.
S Tier: Restoration Shaman
Restoration Shaman remains one of the safest choices for Mythic+ and occupies S Tier on our Midnight 12.2 Healer Tier List. A major reason for its strength is utility. Skyfury provides valuable offensive support, while Poison Cleansing Totem becomes especially powerful in a season with numerous poison-related mechanics. This allows Restoration Shaman to remove dangerous effects before they turn into larger healing problems.
A Tier: Preservation Evoker
Preservation Evoker is in a much better position in 12.2 than it has been in recent seasons. One of its biggest advantages is personal damage. Preservation can contribute substantial DPS while still maintaining strong healing output. This is particularly valuable in modern Mythic+, where healer damage can make the difference between timing and missing a key.
A Tier: Mistweaver Monk
Mistweaver Monk also deserves an A Tier position. The specialization brings some of the highest personal healer damage in the game, especially when its Fistweaving playstyle is optimized around Rising Sun Kick. This makes Mistweaver particularly attractive in physical-damage compositions.
B Tier: Restoration Druid
Restoration Druid has fallen considerably in Mythic+ despite receiving buffs that improve its raid performance. The biggest problem is gameplay complexity. Restoration Druid relies heavily on maintaining and setting up its HoTs, and changes to its HoT extension mechanics have made this process considerably more demanding.
B Tier: Holy Priest
Holy Priest remains a capable healer, but it struggles to compete with the top Mythic+ options. Its biggest strength is reliable single-target healing. Holy Priest generally has an answer when individual party members need to be brought back from low health. With enough Haste, the specialization can rapidly cycle through its healing abilities and handle difficult health checks.
B Tier: Discipline Priest
Discipline Priest currently occupies the bottom of the World of Warcraft healer tier list for Mythic+. The primary issue is mana efficiency. Discipline Priest has significantly worse mana economy than the other healers, forcing players to constantly worry about running out of mana during demanding dungeons.
Patch 12.2: Eclipse Changes Everything We Know About Midnight
Patch 12.2: Eclipse looks set to be one of the biggest content updates of the Midnight expansion. While Season 3 brings the expected new zone, raid, dungeon, Mythic+ rotation, Delves, and outdoor activities, Blizzard is also adding several systems that could change how players experience World of Warcraft outside traditional endgame progression.
The most surprising reveal is Talebound, a new PvE-focused roguelike mode that uses WoW's engine and gameplay in a completely different format. Alongside this, Patch 12.2 will introduce new Paladin race options, expanded Housing features, unrestricted transmog armor types, a new testing environment, PvP progression, and more.
There is also a much bigger picture. Blizzard has already teased content beyond Midnight Season 3, including Wrath of the Lich King Remix, which is expected to help bridge the gap before The Last Titan.
Midnight BlizzCon Reveals: What's Coming in Patch 12.2?
The major Patch 12.2 reveals can be divided into several categories:
New Mode: Talebound
Patch 12.2 Season 3 Content
New Mythic+ Content
Delves, Prey, and Open-World Content
Three New Paladin Race Options
Housing Updates
New Testing and PvP Systems
Unrestricted Transmog
Wrath of the Lich King Remix
This makes Eclipse much more than another seasonal content update.
1. New Mode: Talebound
The biggest surprise is Talebound, a new game mode designed around a PvE roguelike action-RPG experience.
The concept is similar to Plunderstorm in one important way: Blizzard is taking the existing World of Warcraft engine, combat foundation, and assets and creating a completely different gameplay experience around them. However, Talebound appears to be much more focused on PvE rather than PvP.
Players will progress through different zones and stories while gaining power, upgrading talents, fighting enemies, and collecting unique rewards and cosmetics.
The mode will also introduce completely new classes designed specifically for Talebound rather than simply using the traditional WoW class system.
Slayer
The Slayer is a physical damage-focused class that uses weapons and explosive abilities. Its toolkit includes swords, guns, bombs, and other explosive attacks, giving it a very different combat identity from traditional WoW classes.
Inquisitor
The Inquisitor is focused on magical damage and purification. Its abilities include priest-like magic and flames, creating a class centered around powerful spell-based attacks.
Witch
The Witch combines elements that resemble Shamans and Druids. It can summon poisonous frogs and spiders and even transform into different beasts. The classes also have movement and defensive mechanics that are unusual for standard WoW gameplay, including double jumps, dodge rolls, and guarding against attacks. This could make Talebound feel more like a standalone action RPG while still using the familiar World of Warcraft foundation.
2. Patch 12.2 Season 3 Content
The core of Eclipse is still Season 3, which introduces a new zone, raid, dungeon, Delve content, outdoor activities, and a new Mythic+ season. The new zone is the Mantle Vault, which features an ancient Titan machine and brings players into conflict with the devouring force Zalat. Players will also encounter the Thragar, a faction connected to the broader World Soul Saga. This gives Season 3 another opportunity to expand the lore leading toward the future of the saga.
The major Season 3 additions include:
New Zone: Mantle Vault
New Raid: World Core
New Dungeon: Thragar Stand
New Layer Boss: Gearhold
These additions provide the traditional progression path for players who prefer raids, Mythic+, and structured PvE content.
3. New Mythic+ Content
Mythic+ is also receiving a fresh dungeon rotation combining new Midnight dungeons with returning dungeons from previous expansions. The new dungeon Thragar Stand will be part of the Season 3 Mythic+ pool. Several older dungeons are also returning, including:
Madress Sheris
Mysara
Underrot from Battle for Azeroth
Iron Docks from Warlords of Draenor
Sanguine Depths from Shadowlands
Stonecore from Cataclysm
The return of these dungeons gives Season 3 a mixture of new and familiar encounters. Blizzard also appears willing to adjust older dungeons rather than simply copying their original versions, meaning mechanics and difficulty could be significantly different from what players remember. For Mythic+ players, this means learning a completely new seasonal route and adapting to a dungeon pool that spans multiple expansions.
4. Delves, Prey and Open-World Content
Eclipse isn't only focused on raids and Mythic+. Delves and Prey are also receiving new content. Valar will receive a new level cap and additional Curios, giving players more ways to customize their progression. One particularly interesting change is that Asterure, who has previously been associated with Prey, will become a Delve Nemesis during Season 3.
Prey content will continue as well, with new updates and more difficult open-world encounters offering improved rewards. This is potentially important for solo and casual players because it gives them another avenue for meaningful progression without requiring constant Mythic+ or raid participation. Open-world activities such as Radiant Screams will also expand the amount of content available outside traditional instanced activities.
5. Three New Paladin Race Options
Another major class-related announcement is the expansion of the Paladin race roster. Three additional races are expected to gain access to the Paladin class: Undead, Nightborne, and Dark Spear Trolls.
The addition of Undead Paladins is particularly notable because it has been a popular player request for a long time and is also an unusual class/race combination from a lore perspective. Nightborne Paladins are another highly anticipated combination, while Dark Spear Troll Paladins expand an option that already has some precedent among other Troll races. These additions give Paladin players considerably more character customization options.
6. Housing Updates
Housing is also getting a significant expansion in Patch 12.2. One of the most useful additions is a Housing Showcase, allowing players to discover and visit other players' homes more easily. This should make the housing system feel more like a social feature rather than simply a private customization system. Blizzard is also adding mannequins, allowing players to display their favorite transmogs inside their homes.
Other improvements include copy-and-paste functionality for decorations and combinations, making it easier to create complex layouts. Players will also be able to purchase certain decorations directly through the UI instead of repeatedly traveling to distant vendors.
Four new Housing vendors are also planned for Patch 12.2. Together, these changes should make Housing considerably more convenient and give players more reasons to visit and interact with other players' creations.
7. Lots of Side Content
Patch 12.2 also contains several smaller systems that could have a surprisingly large impact. The Calibration Chamber will provide players with a dedicated testing environment containing training dummies with different statistics and conditions. Instead of simply attacking standard target dummies, players will be able to test their class performance in a much more controlled environment before entering a raid or dungeon.
PvP is also receiving a new PvP Journey system, which works somewhat like a seasonal progression or Renown-style system. Players will be able to advance through PvP activities while unlocking additional rewards.
Another major quality-of-life change affects Transmog. Armor restrictions are being removed, meaning players will have significantly more freedom when creating appearances. A character will no longer be restricted to transmogging only gear associated with its normal armor type. That could dramatically expand the number of possible appearances and make the Transmog system far more flexible.
8. Wrath of the Lich King Remix
Looking beyond Patch 12.2, Blizzard has also revealed that Wrath of the Lich King Remix is coming as a future update. This is particularly fitting because a significant portion of The Last Titan is expected to take place in Northrend. A WotLK Remix could therefore serve as both a nostalgic event and a way for players to revisit important Northrend lore before the next expansion. Remix has already proven to be a popular way to revisit older expansions, so bringing Wrath of the Lich King back could be an effective bridge between Midnight and The Last Titan.
