The Midnight 12.1 Single-Button Assistant (SBA) DPS Tier List ranks every DPS specialization based on how well it performs with Blizzard's new Single-Button Assistant, which automatically executes a priority rotation but comes with a 25% Global Cooldown (GCD) penalty.
Midnight 12.1 Best Single Button Assistant - WoW Midnight 12.1 SBA Tier List
Rather than rewarding specs with complicated burst windows, resource pooling, manual DoT spreading, or target swapping, the SBA strongly favors classes that deal consistent baseline damage through simple priority systems, passive effects, and predictable rotations. As a result, many traditionally high-APM specs lose significant value, while specs whose damage has been shifted into core abilities become much stronger. Blizzard's Week 1-4 PTR tuning deliberately flattened many damage profiles by moving power away from cooldowns into frequently used abilities, creating a completely new SBA meta. Without further ado, let's dive into Midnight 12.1 best SAB DPS.
S Tier
These specs either received structural reworks that flatten their damage profile, or baseline buffs that offset the SBA’s 25% cast-speed penalty.
| # | Spec | Key PTR Changes | Why It Works for SBA |
| 1 | Frost Death Knight | Baseline abilities buffed up to 100%. Power shifted into core spammable buttons. | Massive flat damage profile. No reliance on burst windows. SBA just spams the right buttons. |
| 2 | Unholy Death Knight | Scourge Strike passively auto-swaps minion attacks between ST/AoE. Numerical nerfs but mechanic unchanged. | Removes manual minion management — the SBA can’t micro minions, and now it doesn’t need to. |
| 3 | Feral Druid | Burst damage dumped into baseline Shred and Ferocious Bite. Minor cooldown tweaks only. | Flat damage profile is ideal for SBA’s inability to optimize burst windows. |
| 4 | Beast Mastery Hunter | Beast Cleave extended to 10s (no downtime despite slower GCD). Tier nerfed but Cobra Shot/Auto Shot buffed. | Rewards unfinishable base damage over complex talent setups. The SBA’s best friend. |
| 5 | Marksmanship Hunter | Death Blow procs predictable. Auto Shot and Rapid Fire buffed 20%. | Predictable procs + inflated baseline damage = SBA can’t screw this up. |
| 6 | Arcane Mage | Prismatic Bolt always triggers at 0 charges — no charge building needed. | The mechanical simplification is perfect. SBA fires immediately with no resource prep. |
| 7 | Fire Mage | Damage moved out of Combustion into baseline Pyroblast. Flat 12% all-abilities buff. | Shifting power to spammable spells + a flat buff = SBA heaven. |
| 8 | Windwalker Monk | Burst power into baseline Blackout Kick and Tiger Palm. 10% passive damage reduction + 5% stamina. | Flat damage profile from baseline attacks + defensive padding = reliable. |
| 9 | Retribution Paladin | Power out of Skyfury into baseline. Tier set forces strict Divine Storm / Templar’s Verdict alternating loop. Minor tweaks reinforce the loop. | The forced alternating loop removes unpredictable procs entirely. SBA executes this flawlessly. |
| 10 | Shadow Priest | Shade Burst explodes apparitions passively in AoE. Flat 8% damage buff. | No manual dot-spreading needed. Passive AoE explosions + baseline buff = clean SBA play. |
| 11 | Assassination Rogue | Permanent Envenom uptime is now optimal (never drop the buff). | SBA never intentionally drops buffs — this redesign is perfectly aligned with SBA behavior. |
| 12 | Subtlety Rogue | Passive energy generation buffed 40% (less starvation outside Shadow Dance). 8% damage nerf. | Flatter energy curve offsets the nerf. SBA has more uptime on abilities without cooldown dependency. |
| 13 | Elemental Shaman | Ascendance burst gutted, Lava Burst/Lightning Bolt buffed. | Power redistributed into core abilities that SBA presses constantly. Clean winner. |
| 14 | Enhancement Shaman | Doomwinds cooldown nerfed, core strikes buffed up to 20%. Minor bug fixes only. | Consistent flat damage profile. No complex burst windows to mismanage. |
| 15 | Arms Warrior | Whirlwind passively applies Rend in AoE. Auto attacks and Execute buffed. | #1 Pick. Passive Rend application removes the biggest roadblock. Unconditional passive damage. |
A Tier
These specs neither gained nor lost significant ground for SBA. They work, but other specs do it better.
| # | Spec | Key PTR Changes | Why It’s Neutral |
| 1 | Havoc Demon Hunter | Minor talent shifts (Trail of Ruin instant). Minor nerfs. | No structural changes. The 25% cast-speed penalty remains unaddressed, but nothing breaks the SBA either. |
| 2 | Survival Hunter | Normalized focus generation. Completely untouched. | Lack of changes = no loss, no gain. Status quo from live. |
| 3 | Frost Mage | Minor defensive tweaks. Tier set generates icicles over time (more predictable), but Shatter damage nerfed. | Lacks the baseline power shifts that Fire and Arcane got. The buffs and nerfs cancel out. |
| 4 | Outlaw Rogue | Killing Spree buffed. Hidden Opportunity procs normalized. | Nothing structural changed. Still playable but not excelling. |
| 5 | Affliction Warlock | Power shifted into Agony to prevent soul shard overflow. Seed of Corruption nerfed (pushes back to manual Unstable Affliction). | SBA handles ST/AoE swapping natively, so the manual UA casts aren’t a problem. Similar to live. |
| 6 | Destruction Warlock | Conflagration of Chaos for predictable crits. Flat 10% buff. | Raw damage buff is nice, but no structural overhaul. Still suffers from the 25% slower GCD. |
| 7 | Fury Warrior | Whirlwind target cap → soft cap for Rampage. Bloodbath initial damage shifted entirely into bleed. | The bleed shift is invisible to SBA. Functionally equivalent to live. |
C Tier
These specs have fundamental mechanical incompatibilities with the SBA that PTR changes did not (or cannot) fix.
| # | Spec | Key PTR Changes | Why It’s a Loser |
| 1 | Devourer Demon Hunter | Flatter damage profile. Optimal builds skip core abilities (Collapsing Star). | SBA blindly cycles ALL abilities — it can’t skip Collapsing Star. Damage potential tanks. |
| 2 | Balance Druid | Forces strict resource pooling around eclipses. Power pushed into spreading Moonfire/Sunfire. | SBA can’t pool resources for eclipse windows. Can’t tab-target to spread dots. AoE damage plummets. |
| 3 | Augmentation Evoker | N/A — class design fundamentally incompatible. | SBA cannot pilot a support spec. Will never work unless SBA gets major AI upgrades. |
| 4 | Devastation Evoker | Unbound Flame replaces Dragonrage at end of cooldown — SBA ignores major CDs, gets locked out. Wing Leader triggers passively (helps AoE but doesn’t fix the core issue). | Fatal burst lockout. Can’t access Unbound Flame = crippled damage. |
Midnight 12.1 Best SBA DPS
Arms Warrior
Whirlwind passive Rend in AoE removed the SBA’s biggest weakness. Auto attacks and Execute buffed. Top-tier baseline damage.
Arcane Mage
Prismatic Bolt always at 0 charges = SBA fires immediately with zero prep. Cleanest caster rotation for automation.
Frost Death Knight
Baseline abilities buffed 100%. The damage floor is so high now that the SBA can’t underperform.
The SBA meta is about damage shape, not damage size. Specs with flat profiles (no burst dependency, no resource pooling) dominate regardless of raw numbers. Passive AoE > manual dot-spreading. Any spec that got passive multi-target application (Arms Rend, Unholy minion swapping, Shadow Shade Burst) is automatically better for SBA.Turbulent Timeways (until Aug 11) is THE power-leveling window — use it to set up your S2 roster with these specs. The 25% slower GCD is the silent killer. Specs that can’t compensate for it through extended buff durations (BM Beast Cleave) or flattened cast sequences remain permanently disadvantaged.
