Path of Exile 3.29 Curse of the Allflame has arrived, and with it comes another opportunity to command an army of undead minions across Wraeclast. Spectres remain one of the most flexible tools in the Necromancer's arsenal, capable of providing everything from raw damage to game-changing aura buffs. In this Path of Exile 3.29 Spectre Tier List, we sort out the best Spectre choices for both early progression and endgame farming, along with the notable changes coming in patch 3.29.
POE 3.29 Spectres Tier List (Early & Endgame)
Spectres continue to occupy a unique niche in the summoner ecosystem. Unlike Zombies or Skeletons, Spectres let you raise specific monster corpses to gain access to their skills, resistances, and auras. This flexibility means summoner players can build around pure damage-dealing Spectres like Forged Frostbearers or Wretched Defilers, or use utility Spectres like Perfect Forest Warriors and Guardian Turtles to buff other minions such as Absolution, SRS, or Animate Weapon of Ranged Arms.
With that foundation set, let's look at what GGG has adjusted for Spectres heading into 3.29.
Changes to Spectres in PoE 3.29
Several noteworthy adjustments arrived with the Curse of the Allflame patch. Here are the key changes affecting Spectre gameplay:
Reduced Life on many Spectres: GGG lowered the Life of various Monsters when used as Spectres. In general, no Spectre should have more life than a Meatsack. Reduced monsters include Unholy Aberrations from the Unholy Trinity boss fight, Originator-Influenced Monsters, and Robot Monsters found in the hidden area in the Refinery.
Audio adjustments: The audio for most Raised Spectres is now quieter, which is a welcome quality-of-life fix for players running larger armies.
Non-Spectre Minion attack pauses removed: All Non-Spectre Minions no longer pause while attacking. This is a substantial DPS increase for many Minion types that previously had awkward attack animations.
Congregation Support: This support gem lets Spectre builds push their maximum Spectre count much higher, opening up hybrid setups combining damage and utility Spectres.
Now that the changes are clear, let's move on to the actual tier list of Spectres to consider for your league journey.
PoE 3.29 Best Early Game Spectres (Campaign & Early Maps)
During the campaign, your Spectre options are limited by area access, but a few standouts carry you through the early hours smoothly.
Carnage Chieftain (S-Tier Early)
Found in The Old Fields (Act 2) and The Broken Bridge (Act 2), the Carnage Chieftain grants Frenzy Charges to nearby allies. Running one or two of these gives your other minions a solid boost to attack speed, cast speed, and damage. Since Frenzy Charges also work with Absolution and SRS setups, this Spectre is a near-universal early pick.
Host Chieftain (A-Tier Early)
Once you can raise two Spectres, Host Chieftain becomes an option to grant Power Charges. However, without a high crit chance in the early game, most builds get more mileage from doubling up on Carnage Chieftains.
Undying Evangelist (A-Tier Early)
Available from Act 3, this Spectre casts a proximity shield that blocks projectiles. It's a nice defensive layer for squishy early builds, though its offensive contribution is minimal.
PoE 3.29 Best Mid Game Spectres (Yellow to Early Red Maps)
Once you're through the campaign and entering the Atlas, the picture shifts toward main damage Spectres plus a support Spectre or two.
Forged Frostbearer (S-Tier Mid-Game Damage)
Found from Verisium Deposit encounters, Forged Frostbearers cast Cold mortar projectiles that shotgun beautifully when supported by Greater Volley Support. Their AoE splash gives solid clear, while overlapping projectiles produce excellent single-target damage against rare monsters and bosses. Almost every mid-game Spectre build revolves around these.
Perfect Forest Warrior (S-Tier Utility)
This Ritual corpse provides an Onslaught aura to nearby allies and culls enemies on hit. It's arguably the best utility Spectre in the game right now.
Perfect Guardian Turtle (A-Tier Utility)
Provides a weaker Determination aura plus 5% flat physical damage reduction to nearby allies. If your build needs more physical defense, this is a top pick. Automating Convocation is important since Turtles move slowly.
Perfect Spirit of Fortune (S-Tier for Wrath/Lucky Lightning)
Grants Wrath as an aura and makes lightning damage of nearby allies lucky. Essential for Necromancer damage builds that don't already run Wrath themselves.
PoE 3.29 Best Endgame Spectres (Red Maps & Pinnacle Content)
The endgame is where Spectre variety truly opens up. High-budget builds can afford to run 12–17 Spectres with Congregation Support, mixing damage and utility to enormous effect.
Wretched Defiler (S-Tier Endgame Damage)
Currently the meta-defining endgame Spectre for high-budget setups. Wretched Defilers pair exceptionally well with Doryani's Prototype for negative lightning resistance scaling, or with Divine Flesh and Sublime Vision for defensive routing. The main drawback is screen clutter and FPS impact from their projectile density.
Perfect Hydra (S-Tier Endgame Damage)
A strong alternative to Wretched Defilers with a cleaner visual profile. Requires full damage conversion via Triad Grips or similar to hit peak performance, but delivers around 45 million DPS with moderate investment.
Forged Frostbearer (A-Tier Endgame Damage)
Still viable at the highest end, especially in setups running 12x Frostbearers plus 4–5 utility Spectres via Congregation Support. Not the absolute strongest, but incredibly reliable and well-supported by written guides.
Perfect Primal Thunderbird (S-Tier Utility)
Grants Grace as an aura and has a chance to shock enemies. This is the go-to fourth utility Spectre for late-game Frostbearer setups, providing both defense (evasion from Grace) and offense (shock).
Perfect Forest Tiger (S-Tier Utility)
Provides Haste aura and grants Frenzy Charges to nearby allies on hit. Free Haste and Frenzy Charges make this one of the best utility Spectres in the game, though the corpse can be expensive at times.
Serpent Warrior (Sleeper Pick)
Found from Azmeri Basalisk corpses, Serpent Warriors fire mortars with 60% Chaos conversion and inflict Withered for 2 seconds on hit. With Meat Shield Support forcing defensive stance, they perform surprisingly well on medium budgets. A great alternative if you want something off-meta but still competitive with Frostbearers.
Perfect Judgemental Spirit (Niche S-Tier)
With gloves converting fire to chaos, Judgemental Spirits can rival or exceed Wretched Defilers in raw damage while offering slightly better frame rates.
Utility Spectre Reference for Endgame Builds
A typical endgame Spectre roster looks like this:
10–12x main damage Spectres (Forged Frostbearer, Wretched Defiler, or Hydra)
1x Perfect Forest Warrior (Onslaught + Culling)
1x Perfect Guardian Turtle (Determination + PDR)
1x Perfect Primal Thunderbird (Grace + Shock) or Perfect Spirit of Fortune (Wrath + Lucky Lightning)
1x Carnage Chieftain or Perfect Forest Tiger (Frenzy Charges)
For a smooth league journey in 3.29, starting with Carnage Chieftains through the campaign, transitioning to Forged Frostbearers with utility Spectres in maps, and eventually deciding between Wretched Defilers, Hydras, or a maxed Frostbearer setup for endgame content offers a proven path. The Congregation Support addition lets you push Spectre counts higher than ever before, which means mixing damage and utility Spectres has never been more rewarding. Whichever route you pick, Spectres remain one of the most rewarding minion archetypes in Path of Exile, and 3.29 keeps them firmly in the top tier of build options.
