With the 3.1 PTR going live on June 2, 2026, the entire class balance picture for Diablo 4 is getting reshuffled in a major way. Some long-dominant builds are being pulled back hard, while several classes that have been sitting in the middle of the pack for seasons are finally getting the boosts they needed. Below is a full ranking of every class heading into the Season 14 PTR, along with the patch note changes and the strongest builds worth testing during the testing window.
Diablo 4 Season 14 Tier List - Best Class & Build Ranking for 3.1 PTR
The Season 14 PTR brings one of the more sweeping balance passes Diablo 4 has seen in recent memory. Overpower scaling has been reined in across the board through nerfs to Tidal, Banished Lord's Talisman, the Dominate glyph, Crown of Lucion, God Slayer Crown, and Sharpen Finesse, while Limitless Rage was cut from 1.5% down to 0.2% per stack. Sorcerer's Ball Lightning, Unstable Currents, Fractured Winter Glass, and Armageddon all took heavy hits. Meanwhile, Paladin, Necromancer, Druid, and Warlock receive broad buffs aimed at lifting their underused builds. Throw in Mythic Uniques 3.0, Horadric Cube changes that allow Focused and Chaotic Reroll on Uniques, plus the new Pandemonium Ruptures seasonal mechanic, and the meta is wide open.
Below, we are going to sort out the new ranking list of each class with the meta builds to test in the 3.1 PTR based on the pacth notes!
1. Paladin (S Tier)
Paladin walks into Season 14 as one of the biggest winners of the patch. Almost every Paladin build received a buff, and the Spirit Board got the damage boosts the class has been needing for seasons. While the dominant Thorns Shield of Retribution variant has been brought down a peg to bring parity within the class, the rest of the kit is being lifted to match it, and the Paragon board now better facilitates Thorns scaling. The result is a class that feels balanced internally and powerful overall.
Key Patch Changes:
Across-the-board buffs to almost every Paladin build, with several previously underused legendary aspects getting damage increases.
Thorns Shield of Retribution variant pulled back to align with other Paladin builds.
Sword of Justice now grants guaranteed multiplicative all damage.
Paragon board reworked to better support Thorns stacking.
Best Paladin Builds to Test on the 3.1 PTR:
Thorns Shield of Retribution Paladin (still viable post-nerf with Paragon support).
Holy Shock Spirit Board Paladin.
Bash/Heavy Hand Paladin leveraging the new Sword of Justice multiplier.
2. Necromancer (S Tier)
Necromancer enjoys broad-strokes buffs across most of its builds, with multiple legendary aspects and previously underused sets being given damage boosts. The lone casualty is the Blood Wave overpower build, which gets caught in the wider overpower crackdown via Tidal, Banished Lord's Talisman, and the Dominate glyph. Outside of that one archetype, summons, bone, and shadow builds all look stronger, putting Necromancer comfortably at the top.
Key Patch Changes:
General damage buffs to underutilized legendary aspects and sets.
Blood Wave overpower build hit by the Tidal aspect being reduced to 1–3 max overpower stacks and reclassified as utility (no longer goes on weapons).
Glenn's Anvil resolve damage reduction now capped at 40%.
Shattered Vow buffed, opening room for non-overpower bleed and physical builds.
Best Builds to Test on the 3.1 PTR:
Bone Spear Necromancer with reworked aspect support.
Shadow Minion Summoner with new buffs to pet damage.
Shattered Vow bleed Necromancer for non-overpower scaling.
3. Druid (S Tier)
Druid receives one of the most generous treatments in the patch outside of Paladin. The Shepherd's pet aspect is being trimmed back, but every other archetype is getting a healthy lift. Werewolf, Werebear, and storm builds are all targeted for buffs, and combined with new Mythic Unique 3.0 options for any slot, Druid finally has the toolkit to push past its previous ceiling.
Key Patch Changes:
Pet Druid Shepherd's aspect damage bonus reduced.
Buffs to numerous Druid legendary aspects across werewolf, werebear, and storm trees.
Paragon board adjustments aimed at lifting non-pet builds.
Best Druid Builds to Test on the 3.1 PTR:
Cataclysm Storm Druid with revamped aspect scaling.
Pulverize Werebear with the new aspect adjustments.
Werewolf Shred build leveraging Druid set buffs.
4. Warlock (A Tier)
Warlock loses its longtime king, the Apocalypse build, which takes a heavy nerf alongside Command Fallen resource generation. That said, the patch funnels a lot of love into the rest of the class to keep Warlock relevant. Several alternate builds are getting damage boosts, and the new Mythic Unique 3.0 options give Warlock more buildcraft choices than ever. It likely sits in A tier but could push higher depending on how the buffs play out in practice.
Key Patch Changes:
Apocalypse Warlock damage and uptime hit hard.
Command Fallen resource generation reduced.
Multiple buffs to other Warlock skills and aspects to lift secondary builds.
Best Warlock Builds to Test on the 3.1 PTR:
Hellfire Warlock with revamped aspect support.
Soul Eater pet-based Warlock leveraging Mythic 3.0 gear.
Curse-stacking Warlock with new Horadric Cube reroll options.
5. Rogue (A Tier)
Rogue gets a quieter patch with a small nerf to the popular Legacy of the Suras set, balanced out by buffs to several underused Rogue aspects and skills. The class wasn't dominant in Season 13, and these changes feel like a polish pass rather than a teardown. With Mythic Uniques 3.0 letting Rogues stack more game-altering items than before, it should remain a strong all-rounder pick.
Key Patch Changes:
Legacy of the Suras set damage reduced slightly.
Buffs to underutilized Rogue legendary aspects.
Rogue benefits heavily from Horadric Cube unique rerolls due to RNG-heavy unique gearing.
Best Rogue Builds to Test on the 3.1 PTR:
Heartseeker Marksman Rogue.
Dance of Knives Rogue with new aspect buffs.
Death Trap/Andariel's Visage hybrid leveraging Mythic 3.0 stacking.
6. Spiritborn (B Tier)
Spiritborn takes a measured trim on the most abusive builds without being gutted. Rushing Claw no longer counting as an evade kills the popular evade build, and Ravager ferocity stacking is being shut down. Quattly's Grace set gets toned down, and a few poison interactions are being reduced. On the upside, defensive buffs help Spiritborn survive better in higher Torment tiers, so the class still has plenty to work with.
Key Patch Changes:
Rushing Claw no longer counts as an evade, killing the evade Spiritborn build.
Ravager ferocity stacking removed.
Quattly's Grace set damage reduced.
General defensive buffs across the class.
Best Spiritborn Builds to Test on the 3.1 PTR:
Quill Volley Spiritborn (still strong even after balance pass).
Centipede Poison Spiritborn with adjusted scaling.
The Hunter Ranged Spiritborn leveraging defensive buffs.
7. Sorcerer (B Tier)
Sorcerer comes down hard from its Season 13 dominance. Ball Lightning is reworked so that skill ranks no longer increase damage, gutting the speed-farming builds that cleared Pit 150 in two minutes. Unstable Currents now has diminishing returns on skill rank scaling, and the Boundless variant only buffs Crackling Energy damage instead of all shock skills. Armageddon and Fractured Winter Glass are both cut in half. That said, fire and frost builds receive broad buffs to fill the gap, so Sorcerer keeps strong options, just no longer at the top.
Key Patch Changes:
Ball Lightning size scaling adjusted; skill ranks no longer increase damage.
Unstable Currents diminishing returns on rank scaling.
Boundless Unstable Currents now only buffs Crackling Energy.
Armageddon aspect cut in half.
Fractured Winter Glass damage per conjuration cut in half.
Multiple fire and frost build buffs.
Best Sorc Builds to Test on the 3.1 PTR:
Fire Bolt Burning Sorcerer with new fire buffs.
Ice Shards Frost Sorcerer.
Chain Lightning Sorcerer (post-Unstable Currents adjustment).
8. Barbarian (C Tier)
Barbarian takes the heaviest beating in the patch. The Melted Heart of Selig immortal build is gone thanks to fixes to fury generation and endurance phase interactions. Limitless Rage drops from 1.5% to 0.2% per stack of fury (with a 350-stack cap and 0.4% on two-handers), which divides damage by roughly five for every Barb build. The Dominate glyph gets gutted alongside Tidal aspect nerfs, and Highlander Call of the Ancients no longer works with Apogeic Furer. Wrath of the Berserker does get a 30% damage multiplier added, and Battle Trance gets a meaningful buff that might create new build paths, but Barbarian likely starts the season at the bottom and climbs through buildcraft.
Key Patch Changes:
Fury generation now capped at 0.5 fury per hit per 1% maximum life, meaning Barbs gear high life instead of low life.
Increased resource generation no longer triggers from being hit.
Melted Heart of Selig immortal build patched out.
Limitless Rage cut from 1.5% to 0.2% per stack (cap of 350 stacks).
Dominate glyph damage per overpower stack heavily reduced.
Tidal aspect reduced to 1–3 max overpower stacks and changed to utility slot.
Highlander Call of the Ancients no longer works with Apogeic Furer.
Wrath of the Berserker now grants 30% damage multiplier.
Battle Trance buffed: Frenzy gains Barrage variant for free with two extra stacks; 100% increased damage and 45% attack speed at max stacks.
Frenzy Raging variant explosion proc buffed to 75% with no max stack requirement.
Best Barb Builds to Test on the 3.1 PTR:
Frenzy Battle Trance Barbarian (the buffed Battle Trance interaction is a strong contender).
Wrath of the Berserker Damage Multiplier Barbarian (new 30% multi opens fresh buildcraft).
Mighty Throw Call of the Ancients Barbarian (works with Apogeic Furer post-Highlander nerf).
The 3.1 PTR tier list above is a starting reference point based on patch notes alone, and Blizzard has stated that PTR balance often swings further in either direction than what hits live servers. Expect Paladin, Necromancer, and Druid to lead the early days of Season 14 thanks to their broad buff packages, with Warlock and Rogue following close behind. Sorcerer and Spiritborn settle into solid mid-tier positions after losing their cheesiest interactions, and Barbarian likely starts at the bottom but has real potential to climb once players figure out the new Wrath of the Berserker and Battle Trance interactions.
The PTR runs from June 2 at 10:00 a.m. PDT through June 9 at 10:00 a.m. PDT. Hop in, test these builds, and submit feedback through the in-game tool or the Diablo IV PTR forums to help shape what the live Season 14 meta looks like at the end of June.
