What Are Obols in Diablo 4?

Obols are a special gambling currency. You spend them at the Purveyor of Curiosities. This vendor lets you gamble for random gear pieces. You can buy random weapons, armor, rings, amulets and off-hands. The Diablo 4 item type is guaranteed, but rarity, affixes, and legendary aspects are random.

What Is Obducite?

Obducite is a Masterworking crafting material. Masterworking is the endgame upgrade system that increases item stats beyond normal tempering and enchanting. You spend Obducite at the Blacksmith to masterwork gear, improve affix values, and push endgame power.

The important mechanic is that the 3rd layer of an Escalating Nightmare Dungeon can roll special reward modifiers like Obols Reserve, Obducite Mine, Gold Reserve, Gem Cache. These modifiers massively increase chest rewards inside the dungeon. Normally, you’d clear dungeon and kill boss. But the exploit:

How to Farm Obols & Obducite in D4 Season 13

1. Unlock Branching Pathways

Inside War Plans, you need Branching Pathways. This node allows multiple reward choices after each dungeon layer, control over reward modifiers. Without it, the strategy does not work.

2. Prepare War Plans Correctly

You want your next War Plan objective to be Infernal Hordes. BUT do not enter Infernal Hordes yet. Instead keep Infernal Hordes queued as the next destination. This is important because the teleport tied to the queued objective is what causes the dungeon reset bug.

3. Open an Escalating Nightmare Dungeon

Use any escalating Nightmare Sigil. Affixes do not matter much. Run Dungeon 1, Dungeon 2 Normally.

4. Choose Your Farming Modifier

After Dungeon 2, the game offers modifiers for Dungeon 3. This is where you select your target resource. 

-For Obols, choose Obols Reserve. This causes chests in Dungeon 3 to drop huge Obol amounts.

5. Farm the Third Dungeon

Inside Dungeon 3:

Do:

-Open every chest

-Loot all resource caches

DO NOT:

Kill the final boss. This is critical. Most value comes from side chests, event chests, and reward containers. NOT the boss itself.

6. Force the Reset

After looting:

Open map → click the War Plan teleport button.

Instead of sending you to Infernal Hordes the game teleports you to the dungeon entrance. Now check if monsters respawned or chests reset. If NOT repeat teleport again. Sometimes reset occurs in 2 tries, sometimes 10+, or sometimes 20+. Eventually, the entire dungeon resets and all reward chests refill. Then repeat the farm infinitely.
