Path of Exile 2 Beta: Release/End Date, How to Sign Up?

1/4/2024 5:36:39 PM

Path of Exile 2's beta begins next year. The goal is for the beta to serve as an extensive multiplayer test exceeding any other ARPG, to catch and address issues before the official launch. Read our PoE2 beta guide, we’ll address the release date, end date, and how to get into it.

Path of Exile 2 Open/Closed Beta: Date, Contents & How to Unlock

Path of Exile 2 is described as a new game with its own unique story, mechanics, and content. While it shares some mechanics and the familiar world with Path of Exile 1, it offers a fresh and different gameplay experience. The gameplay from Act 3 was teased at ExileCon, set in a jungle where the Vaal Empire used to span. So, there are new environments and settings that players can explore in the sequel. Next, we're going to talk about everything we know about the POE 2 open and closed beta so far!

Path of Exile 2 Beta Release & End Date

The Path of Exile 2 open beta is set to begin on June 7th, 2024. This PoE release date was announced by GGG founder Jonathan Rogers during an ExileCon interview in November 2022. However, the exact end date is not specified, and the duration of the closed beta could last for a minimum of six months, potentially extending up to a year. By starting in June 2024, the beta could potentially run until December 2024 (6 months) or even through June 2025 (a full year).

How to Sign Up for Path of Exile 2 Beta?

Be an active Path of Exile 1 player - GGG will selectively invite players who have invested significant time into PoE1. More playtime means a higher chance of an invite.

Lifetime spending in PoE1 - Anyone who has spent a total of $500 or more on supporter packs and microtransactions in PoE1 will get automatic beta access.

Purchase a PoE2 supporter pack - New packs that grant beta access will be released simultaneously with the beta's start. These can range from $30-250 depending on rewards.

Be a high supporter of PoE1 already - "Top tier" pack buyers ($440+) and those who have spent $500+ lifetime will get invites without needing another purchase.

Select beta keys may be given out via livestream promotions and events for GGG/PoE partners.

Console players will also have beta access, though invitation details may differ from PC. Cross-play is intended.

Invitations will be sent in waves, not a daily winner system, to avoid competition between players.

What can We Expect from PoE2 Beta?

The Entire Campaign: GGG wants to fully test the new campaign experiences, characters, areas, bosses, and progression. This will be the most significant change from PoE1.

Around 60 Endgame Maps: Only a portion of the total planned maps, but enough to begin setting up shaping/crafting and atlas passives testing.

Major Existing Endgame Systems: Delve, Heist, and Delirium will be brought over from PoE1 in their PoE2 updated forms. This allows testing at scale.

Potential New Endgame System: Though unconfirmed, it's possible a new system like Expedition Encounters reworked is introduced alongside the imported PoE1 systems.

All New Character Classes: The Druid, Huntress, Warrior, Monk, Sorceress, and Mercenary shown so far are expected to be fully playable. Potentially the additional 6 classes as well.

Most Ascendancy Classes: While some may come later, the new ones will likely be prioritized for inclusion at beta start to test different playstyles.

Overhauled Crafting: The updated crafting bench and currency reworks like Chaos Orbs can have their balance tuned based on beta feedback.

Graphical/Technical Testing: Helping GGG optimize the new engine and assets across an array of hardware before POE2's more demanding release.

Continuous Updates: As the beta progresses over 6-12 months, GGG will add extra maps, areas, league mechanics, and classes/ascendancies for deeper testing each time.
