D2R Season 16 Eternity Affixes, Builds & How To Get

The Eternity rune word has gone from a forgotten footnote in Diablo II history to arguably the most talked-about item of Patch 3.4. With Season 16 launching on November 13, 2026, Blizzard has reworked Eternity into a weapon that competes with Grief and Breath of the Dying across nearly every melee and bow build in the game. This guide covers the new Eternity affixes, the top builds that benefit from it, and the fastest route to crafting one on ladder reset.

D2R Eternity Runeword Update in Season 16 Ladder Reset

Patch 3.4 brings a wave of unique item updates alongside the Season 16 ladder reset, and the Eternity rune word sits at the center of the entire patch. Season 15 ends Monday, November 9 at 11 a.m. PST, with Season 16 going live Friday, November 13 at 5 p.m. PST. Alongside the new ladder, Blizzard has reworked over a dozen unique items including Veil of Steel, Silks of the Victor, Lava Gout, and Ethereal Edge.

Why Eternity Is the Headline Change

The Eternity rune word was previously built almost exclusively for Holy Grail completionists. Its old stat line gave only 260 to 310% enhanced damage, a flat level 8 Revive with 88 charges, and no attack speed boost. Players rarely built it because Breath of the Dying, Grief, and Death all outperformed it in nearly every category.

What Changed in 3.4

Patch 3.4 pushes Eternity into a brand new tier. The rune word now rolls in melee and missile weapons, up to 390% enhanced damage, adds up to 297 maximum damage based on character level, gains 30% increased attack speed, and replaces the Revive charges with a +5 to Revive Oskill, the first time Revive has ever been available to every class in Diablo II history.

D2R Season 16 New Eternity Runeword Affixes

Eternity remains a five-socket rune word made from Amn + Ber + Ist + Sol + Sur. The rune cost has not changed, but every other aspect of the item has been retuned.

Full Affix List for the New Eternity

The reworked Eternity now carries the following stats on both melee and missile bases:

  • Indestructible

  • +30% Increased Attack Speed (new)

  • +300 to 390% Enhanced Damage (up from +260 to 310%)

  • +3 to 297 To Maximum Damage (Based on Character Level) (new)

  • 20% Chance of Crushing Blow

  • Hit Blinds Target

  • Slows Target by 33%

  • Replenish Life +16

  • Regenerate Mana 16%

  • Cannot Be Frozen

  • 7% Life Stolen Per Hit

  • +5 To Revive (Oskill) (replaces Level 8 Revive with 88 Charges)

  • 30% Better Chance of Getting Magic Items

Why the New Affixes Hit So Hard

Looking at a perfect ethereal Berserker Axe at character level 99, Eternity reaches around 190 to 832 one-hand damage, which puts the average damage near 511. For comparison, a perfect ethereal Grief Berserker Axe sits lower in average damage output when demons are not involved. In a two-handed base like an ethereal Colossus Blade or Caduceus, the top-end damage can push past 1,200.

The Revive Oskill Is the Game-Changer

The old charge-based Revive required constant recharging and capped at 88 uses. The new +5 to Revive Oskill functions as a permanent skill tab, which means every class now has access to a 10-plus minion Revive army just by equipping the weapon. Each cast gives revived monsters +200% life and a 180-second duration.

Base Choice Matters

Eternity has no base-type restriction beyond needing five sockets, so you have a wide range of options:

  • Berserker Axe: Classic one-hand melee option with +15% ED on superior rolls.

  • Colossus Blade: Two-handed sword with monster top-end damage.

  • Caduceus: Three-socket Paladin scepter base, superior roll with +15 ED makes it a strong choice for Zealers.

  • Matriarchal Bow or Grand Matron Bow: Amazon bow options with +3 skills on the base.

  • Man Catcher: Fast spear that was never available for Breath of the Dying thanks to its socket cap. Eternity in a man catcher is projected to be one of the fastest hitting weapons in the game.

  • Phase Blade: Avoid this one, since phase blades cannot roll ethereal.

With the full stat list and base options laid out, let's look at the builds that gain the most from this rework.

New Eternity Runeword Best Uses - Which Builds To Setup

Because Eternity rolls in nearly every weapon type and grants Revive as an Oskill, the list of builds that benefit from it is long. These are the setups with the strongest synergy.

Frenzy Barbarian with Revive Army

Dual-wielding Eternity gives you +10 to Revive from the Oskill alone. Stack plus skills from Veil of Steel (+2), CTA on swap (+2), Nightwing's Veil (+1), Oculus (+1), BK ring (+1), Arachnid Mesh (+1), and a +2 Barb amulet, and you can reach 21 Revives active at once with Battle Command. Frenzy damage with a perfect Eternity Berserker Axe hits 2,700 to 12,000 before Might aura buffs.

Fury Werewolf Druid

Fury Druids benefit from Eternity in a two-handed base, pushing top-end damage past 1,300. Cannot Be Frozen means dropping Raven Frost for a dual leech ring or Wisp Projector. Pair it with Beast on swap for Fanaticism and you have a Druid that outputs more raw damage than the previous Grief + Beast setup.

Strafe or Multishot Bowazon

Eternity in a Matriarchal Bow is the headline bow build of Season 16. A perfect roll in a 15 ED Matriarchal Bow at level 99 hits around 17,000 damage on Guided Arrow versus roughly 14,000 with Windforce. Key points for the Bowazon setup:

  • Cannot Be Frozen frees up the Raven Frost slot for Highlord's Wrath buff rings or Wisp Projector.

  • 100% Deadly Strike is achievable with Gore Riders (+15) and Highlord's Wrath (+37 at level 99), leaving minimal investment in Critical Strike.

  • Hit Blinds Target overrides Atma's Scarab Amp Damage, so you need to decide between the blind defensive proc or the Amp Damage offensive proc.

Zeal Paladin

Eternity in a Caduceus or Berserker Axe gives Zealers a weapon that rivals Grief against non-demon targets. The 20% Crushing Blow actually gives Zeal Paladins a tool Grief never offered. Pair it with Last Wish on swap or run a two-handed Zealer with an army of Revives for a hybrid setup.

Enchant Sorceress

An Eternity Grand Matron Bow in the hands of an Enchant Sorceress with Pierce gear from Razor Tail and Wisdom circlet creates a hybrid caster-archer with a Revive army that gets permanently enchanted for massive fire damage per hit. Each Revive can carry 4,000+ Enchant fire damage, and relocating the army via teleport makes positioning trivial.

Blood Boil Warlock

The Warlock's Blood Boil skill triggers Corpse Explosion-style effects on your own minions. Combined with 15-plus Revives from Eternity, Blood Boil creates a chain-detonation that clears entire screens at once. This is the sleeper combo of the patch for players who prefer caster-summoner hybrids.

Vengeance or Smite Paladin with Aura Stacking

A Paladin using Eternity alongside a Pride mercenary and Bramble armor pushes Concentration, Might, and Thorns aura onto every Revive minion. The result is a Revive army with roughly 1,000 to 1,700% enhanced damage boost from auras alone.

What Eternity Does Not Replace

Grief still wins against demons when paired with Laying of Hands (+350% damage to demons) and continues to carry Ignore Target Defense that Eternity lacks. Death remains the top Crushing Blow + Deadly Strike combo weapon. Last Wish keeps its niche thanks to the level 17 Might aura. Eternity does not kill these rune words, but it does become the top physical damage option for any build fighting non-demon targets.

Now that you know which characters gain the most, the last question is how to actually get the runes together on ladder reset day.

How To Get New Eternity Runeword in D2R Season 16

Eternity requires Amn + Ber + Ist + Sol + Sur. The Ber and the Sur are the two bottleneck runes, since Amn, Ist, and Sol are all mid-tier runes that drop regularly or can be cubed up. Here is the most efficient farming strategy for reset week.

The Rune Requirements at a Glance

RuneRarityTypical Source
AmnCommonCountess, Hellforge, Travincal
BerHigh RuneTravincal, Chaos Sanctuary, Terror Zones
IstMid-HighCountess, Travincal, LK
SolCommonCountess, Hellforge
SurHigh RuneTravincal, Chaos Sanctuary, Terror Zones

The two high runes (Ber and Sur) will determine when you can craft Eternity. Everything else can be gathered or traded within the first day or two of ladder.

Travincal Find Item Barbarian Is the Top Farm Spot

The Council members in Travincal are all boss-tier monsters, which gives them a dramatically higher chance to drop high runes compared to standard enemies. A Find Item Barbarian can loot each Council member a second time using the Hork ability, effectively doubling your drop chances per run.

Why Travincal Beats Other Spots on Reset

Several reasons make Travincal the top choice for farming your Eternity runes early:

  • Short run time: 30 seconds to 1.5 minutes per run depending on gear.

  • Proximity to waypoint: Two to three Leaps and you are in combat.

  • Boss monster drop tables: Council members roll on boss drop tables, which means higher chance for Ber, Sur, Jah, Cham, Zod, and Lo.

  • Double loot via Hork: Up to 75% chance to loot each corpse a second time with max Find Item.

  • Trade economy: Travincal also drops Istrunes, perfect gems, charms, and bases, giving you steady trade value even on dry rune streaks.

Starter Barbarian Setup for Travincal

For a ladder-start Find Item Barb, the goal is cheap gear that lets you one-shot the Council and max your Hork chance:

  • Weapon: Vendor-shop a +3 War Cry wand (around 100 gold from Malah in Act 5) or craft a Blade of Ali Baba with Ist runes for magic find. Endgame moves to Reaper's Toll, Oath, or Grief in a Berserker Axe.

  • Helm: Peasant Crown or a +2 Barb circlet with 40 MF. Endgame upgrade to a Rare circlet with +2 Barb Skills.

  • Armor: Smoke, Treachery, or eventually Enigma for teleport farming.

  • Shield: Rhyme for Cannot Be Frozen, Ancient's Pledge, or Storm Shield at endgame.

  • Rings: Nagelring, Manald Heal, or a dual leech ring. Avoid Raven Frost because Cannot Be Frozen comes from Rhyme or Horizon's Tornado.

  • Gloves: Chance Guards for magic find.

  • Boots: War Traveler for max MF.

  • Belt: Goldwrap or Tal Rasha's Fine-Spun Cloth.

  • Charms: Any Barb skillers and MF small charms you can get your hands on.

Avoid cold damage anywhere in the build. Shattered Council corpses cannot be looted with Find Item.

Skill Point Priority

Place your early skill points as follows:

  • 20 in Find Item (max for 75% Hork chance)

  • 20 in Berserk (your single-target one-shot ability)

  • 20 in Blade Mastery (if sword) or Axe Mastery

  • 1 in Battle Orders (more if you need HP for hardcore)

  • 1 in Natural Resistance

  • 1 in War Cry, Battle Command, Shout, Iron Skin, Increased Speed, Leap

  • Remaining in Battle Orders and Natural Resistance

Realistic Timeline to Craft Eternity

The math works out roughly like this:

  • Days 1 to 3: Level to 75, finish Hell, start farming Travincal.

  • Days 4 to 7: Spam Travincal runs. Average players will see Ist runes regularly and may see a Ber or Sur within a few hundred runs.

  • Week 2: With steady trading of Istrunes, perfect gems, and uniques for your missing rune, most casual players can assemble Amn + Ber + Ist + Sol + Sur.

Finding the Right Base

While farming runes, keep an eye out for your eventual Eternity base:

  • Ethereal 5-socket Berserker Axe: Rolls naturally with 5 sockets occasionally. Larzuk quest socket is reserved for other projects, so look for natural 5OS drops or buy from trade.

  • Ethereal 5-socket Colossus Blade: Larzuk gives 5 sockets on normal difficulty, which makes this the easier craft target.

  • Superior 15% ED Matriarchal Bow: For Bowazons, the +3 Bow and Crossbow skills on the base pairs with Eternity for a massive damage boost.

  • Ethereal Man Catcher: Niche but potentially the fastest-hitting Eternity in the game.

A Word on RNG

Travincal is a numbers game. Some players will see a Ber in 30 runs. Others will run 1,000 times without one. The Find Item Barb strategy maximizes your runs per hour and your trade economy, which is the best way to shift the odds in your favor. Expect good runs and dry streaks, and plan to trade aggressively with the magic find and item variety that Travincal produces.

The reworked Eternity is the headline rune word of Season 16 and arguably the most impactful melee or bow upgrade D2R has seen since the Reign of the Warlock expansion launched. Between the new +5 Revive Oskill, 30% IAS, up to 390% enhanced damage, and up to 297 added max damage, Eternity now competes with (and often beats) Grief, Breath of the Dying, and Death on nearly every build. If you want it fast, roll a Find Item Barb on November 13, head straight to Travincal after finishing Hell, and start horking Council members until your Ber and Sur drop. The season belongs to whoever gets there first.
