Diablo 4 Season 15 Transfigure Item Guide (Legendary & Mythic)

If you are chasing top push builds in Diablo 4 Season 15, transfiguration is one of the biggest sources of extra damage you can add to your gear. A single good transfiguration affix can stack as its own separate damage multiplier, and multiple valid transfiguration rolls multiply together to blow your damage far higher. This system is powerful, but it is also unforgiving. One wrong step can lock your best gear permanently and waste hours of crafting work. This guide breaks down exactly how Diablo 4 Season 15 transfiguration works, what results you can get, how to perform each craft step, and how players land multiple stacked transfigurations on both legendary and Mythic items.

Diablo 4 Season 15 Transfiguration Guide

How does transfiguration work and what does it do in Diablo IV? Transfiguration is a Horadric Cube crafting recipe for legendary, unique, and Mythic Unique items. It works similarly to the Sanctification system from Season 11. To run the recipe, you need one item plus 1x Volatile Primordial Dust. A tuning prism is optional, and it changes the rules of the roll completely.

At its core, transfiguration adds a random special affix or modification to your gear. Most of the time, the item becomes marked unmodifiable after the roll. Once unmodifiable, you cannot reroll affixes, adjust temper values, change masterworking, or swap the aspect anymore. The only actions left are putting gems or runes into an existing socket.

The critical exception is the small chance for an item to stay modifiable after a normal transfiguration roll. If it stays modifiable, you can run transfiguration again on the same piece, opening the path to stack two, three, or even more transfiguration affixes on one item. This is the mechanic top players hunt for.

There are two main tuning prisms that change the behavior:

  • Entropic Tuning Prism: Removes both the highest reward and worst failure outcomes from the roll pool. It guarantees the item becomes unmodifiable after use. It is safer for casual upgrades, but it cannot produce the strongest damage multipliers.

  • Kullean Tuning Prism: Amulet-only. This prism adds a second aspect to your amulet and keeps the amulet modifiable, so you can keep adjusting it after this transfiguration step. If you run a normal transfiguration on that same amulet later, it follows the standard risky rules again.

One simple check routine many players use before transfiguring is called the STEAM method: Socket, Temper, Enchant, Aspect, Masterwork. Go through this checklist every time. Transfiguration is almost always your final crafting step. Anything you forget cannot be added later.

Diablo 4 Transfiguration Outcomes

Transfiguration has a set pool of possible results, and the odds shift depending on whether you use a prism or skip it. The sample data from testing on Barbarian gear gives these rough ratios for standard transfiguration with no prism:

  • Indestructible (~20%): The item never loses durability. This is usually considered a weak roll for push builds.

  • Upgrade to Greater Affix (~15%): Turns one regular affix on the item into a Greater Affix (GA). If this happens and the item stays modifiable, many players reroll immediately because this is rarely the target stat.

  • Bonus Transfiguration Affix (~35%): Adds a brand-new special affix without replacing any existing affix. This is the outcome you want most.

  • Replace existing affix with Transfiguration Affix (~10%): Overwrites one of your current affixes. This cannot hit enchanted affixes, tempers, or Mythic Unique stats.

  • Bonus Item Quality (~20%): Adds extra item quality. Two-handed weapons get a larger quality range than other gear. Quality boosts stack with masterworking.

The transfiguration affix pool follows slot rules. Some stats only roll on specific gear types. For example, +3 to All Skills can only appear on rings and amulets. Fire Damage Multiplier, Physical Damage Multiplier, and Primary Stat percentages can roll across many gear slots, including boots, armor, rings, and amulets. Elemental damage multipliers (fire, cold, lightning, physical and more) are the highest priority for damage-focused builds, because each one acts as an independent multiplier.

Important note: All transfiguration results are random. Published ratios are only from limited test samples, and your personal results can swing wildly.

How to Transfigure Items in D4 Season 15?

Before you start rolling, confirm your item is 900 item power if you plan to temper for a Greater Affix. Gear below 900 power cannot get a GA temper. All items used for multi-transfiguration farming should be 900 power legendaries.

Full Craft Order for a Standard Item

  1. Visit the Occultist first to imprint your required aspect. If you skip this, you will lose the chance to add it after transfiguration.

  2. Go to the Jeweler to add a socket for gems or runes.

  3. Use the Horadric Cube to roll your base four affixes. You can lock a desired stat at the Occultist by selecting the stat and choosing No Change. This locked stat will be ignored by cube replacement recipes and keep its value fixed.

  4. Use category-matching prisms in the cube to swap unwanted affixes. Roll for the stat categories you need, and do not stress about perfect values yet.

  5. Use the cube’s stat size recipe to tune affix values after you have the correct affix types.

  6. Visit the Blacksmith to temper your target stat, rerolling until you get a GA temper. Then apply masterworking. You can put masterworking points directly into a transfiguration stat later.

  7. Run transfiguration in the Horadric Cube. Choose either the normal recipe with Volatile Primordial Dust only, or add a tuning prism.

Two Different Transfiguration Strategies

  • Careful first craft method: Use this for your main best-in-slot gear. Finish every crafting step first, then transfigure as the final irreversible step. Always keep a backup copy of your main gear before you gamble on it. If your only usable weapon gets a bad roll, you may be stuck without a working setup.

  • Rapid-fire farming method: This is the faster route for multiple transfigurations. Grab stacks of cheap 900 power legendaries, and spam transfiguration repeatedly without fully crafting each one first. You are only looking for the “modifiable” tag. If the roll makes the item unmodifiable or gives a bad affix, move to the next item right away. Only the items that stay modifiable get fully crafted later. This saves huge amounts of Volatile Primordial Dust and time compared to crafting every candidate item fully first.

The measured rate from testing shows roughly 1 out of 26 transfigured legendaries stays modifiable after a normal roll. That is about a 3.8% chance for a single keep-modifiable result. To get two separate keep-modifiable events on the same item, the combined chance drops to around 0.15%, roughly once in every 676 attempts.

How to Get Best Transfigurations on Mythic Items in D4 S15?

Mythic transfiguration follows the opposite workflow of legendaries. You cannot farm Mythic items endlessly, since each one costs rare sparks and runes. For that reason, you finish nearly all crafting work before you touch transfiguration.

The order is:

  1. Obtain or craft the Mythic item.

  2. Adjust stats at the Occultist.

  3. Apply tempering and masterworking.

  4. Run transfiguration as the final step.

The chance to hit your target elemental damage multiplier on a Mythic is still about 1 out of 52 rolls, the same as on legendaries. The good news is that many rings can roll multiple useful transfiguration affixes that fit push builds. +3 to All Skills, Gem Strength multiplier, resource bonuses, and your target elemental multiplier are all viable, so your usable pool is wider than just one single stat.

You cannot reroll Mythic items in bulk the way you do with cheap legendaries. Most players build a small collection of finished Mythics and slowly transfigure them one by one, accepting that the perfect roll will take many tries.

How to Unlock Massive Damage in D4 with Transfiguration?

The huge damage gain comes from stacking separate transfiguration damage multipliers. Normal damage sources add together, but each elemental damage multiplier from transfiguration is a separate multiplicative bucket. If you get this roll on multiple pieces of gear, their effects multiply on top of each other. This is where the trillions or quadrillions of damage potential comes from for endgame push builds.

For example, a fire build wants Fire Damage Multiplier on as many slots as possible. Each separate transfiguration affix of this type multiplies your total damage again. A single one is strong, but three or four stacked copies make your build jump to a completely different power level.

This is why top players chase items with two, three, or more transfigurations. The workflow for triple-transfiguration gear works like this:

  1. Farm 900 legendaries with rapid-fire transfiguration until you get one that stays modifiable after the first roll.

  2. Keep rolling that same item, hoping for a second keep-modifiable result. This is the rare 1-in-676 stage.

  3. Once you have two transfigurations and the item is still modifiable, fully craft all the base stats, temper, and masterwork.

  4. For the third transfiguration, use an Entropic Tuning Prism. The prism guarantees unmodifiable, so you lock in your final roll safely after you already have the two valuable transfiguration affixes.

This sequence avoids the terrible alternative: crafting 52 perfect full items first, then transfiguring each one hoping for the multiplier. That method is far slower and wastes many more materials.

Tips and Warnings for Diablo 4 Season 15 Transfiguration

  • All modified items become account-bound after any change. You cannot buy, sell, or trade transfigured D4 gear.

  • If you get a GA transfiguration roll and the item stays modifiable, it is usually best to reroll it immediately. A second transfiguration after a GA result almost always bricks the item into unmodifiable.

  • Masterworking cooldown reduction on the native affix gives a larger total value than masterworking the cooldown reduction temper. Plan your masterworking allocation carefully.

  • Transfiguration affixes follow slot restrictions. Before farming, check which slots can roll your target multiplier. Do not waste prisms on gear that cannot drop the stat you need.

  • The system is fully random. Probability numbers are long-term averages. You might hit two modifiable items back to back, or burn hundreds of dust and get nothing useful. Do not rely on the odds for guaranteed results.

  • If you only want mild upgrades for Torment progression and do not want to gamble, use Entropic Tuning Prism. It removes the risk of ruining your gear, even though it cannot produce the top-tier damage multipliers.
