Diablo 4 Season 16 Best Class & Builds Tier List (3.3 PTR)

Season 16 of Diablo 4 is almost here, and the 3.3 PTR patch notes have given us our first full picture of what to expect. With the PTR running from October 27th through November 3rd on PC Battle.net, and Season 16 scheduled to go live in early-to-mid December, there is a lot of fresh data to work through before jumping back into Sanctuary.

Below is our updated Diablo 4 Season 16 tier list based on 3.3 PTR patch notes, class balance reviews from top theorycrafters like Rob2628 and Lurkin, and the latest news on Horadric items, expanded War Plans, and Tyrael's Boons.

Updated on October 23rd, 2026, based on patch notes and community feedback on Diablo 4 S16 PTR.

Diablo 4 Season 16 Tier List (3.3 PTR)

Season 16 is called the Season of Death's Awakening, continuing the Death Cult storyline from Season 15. The Corrupted Reaper returns with reinforcements as the Fractured Reaper joins the Pandemonium War, giving us a brand new dual-boss pinnacle fight. Beyond the storyline, this patch brings a huge expansion to the War Plan system, a new Horadric item type that interacts with the Talisman set bonus, permanent Hell Tides, and sweeping class balance changes affecting every class in the game. Season 15 features from Hell's Legacy will carry forward into the live Season 16 build, though they are not part of the current PTR so testing can focus on new features.

Major System Additions

  • War Plan Tactics – A new permanent progression tree branching out across many levels, letting you assign points toward preferred rewards like armor, weapons, jewelry, Obducite, salvage, gems, gold, activity keys, Horadric materials, or Talisman items.

  • Tyrael's Boons – A season-specific War Plan tree stacking up to 126 levels with four paths: Curious Addition, Merchant of Mystery, Scent of Gold, and Trash for Treasure.

  • Greater Temper recipe – A new Horadric Cube recipe that upgrades a Tempered Affix into a Greater Affix for 30 Scrolls of Restoration and 1,000 Obducite.

  • Horadric Items – A new item type with Horadric affixes. Jewelry gives +1 to your set bonus count, letting you run two different two-piece bonuses or combine with Diamond Mind for double five-piece setups.

  • Permanent Hell Tides – Base game Hell Tides start on the hour and expansion Hell Tides start at the half-hour mark, with no downtime. Aberrant Cinders no longer reset between Hell Tides.

  • Reworked Infernal Hordes, Pit, and Lair Boss activities – Blizzard is addressing the stale reward-per-time of Infernal Hordes along with Pit and Lair updates.

  • Mount speed buffed – Faster baseline mount speed with less benefit from spurring.

  • Marks of Wisdom – New capped currency used to respec War Plans instead of gold.

The Power Creep Math

Even with heavy nerfs to top season 15 builds, the new Horadric items alone bring a huge amount of power. Running a three-piece Threefold Curse plus a two-piece Frozen Seas on a frost build, for example, pushes multiplier math into the 6x range right out of the gate. Combined with Diamond Mind at endgame, double-set configurations open brand new build identities. Expect most T12-viable builds from Season 15 to remain T12-viable, with new entries climbing up the leaderboards thanks to targeted buffs across the sleeper classes.

Diablo 4 Season 16 Class Tier List & Best Builds for Each Class

Now let us sort out the class rankings and see which classes stand out ahead in Season 16, pairing with the best builds for each class to test in the 3.3 PTR:

1. Warlock (S Tier)

Warlock keeps its spot at the top despite small nerfs to its two best builds. Blazing Scream only lost about 15% damage and Apocalypse had its stack scaling halved while doubling the stack cap, which smooths out the burst curve rather than killing the build. Everything else about the class got better: Nether Step picked up increased animation speed, Dread Claw and the Shadow Set got small buffs, Sigil of Summons, Tyrant's Grasp, and Umbral Chains all received love, and the clunky visual noise got cleaned up with new accessibility options.

Warlock Changes in Season 16:

  • Blazing Scream base damage lowered from 130% to 115%

  • Apocalypse stack cap doubled with damage per stack halved (same ceiling, longer ramp)

  • Nether Step animation speed improved

  • Sigil of Summons, Tyrant's Grasp, and Umbral Chains buffed

  • Metamorphosis receives a damage buff

  • Visual effects reduced for co-op play

  • Numerous buffs to non-dominant Warlock skills across the kit

Best Warlock Builds to Test on 3.3 PTR:

  • Blazing Scream Warlock (still the top DPS, minimal real impact from the nerf)

  • Apocalypse Warlock (longer ramp, same ceiling)

  • Hellhound Abaddon Warlock (one-button speed farmer)

  • Nether Step Warlock (new mobility makes it worth revisiting)

  • Lunatic Warlock

  • Tyrant's Grasp Warlock

2. Sorcerer (A Tier)

Sorcerer gets one of the more interesting rework packages of the patch. Firewall was taken down from a 300% to a 100% damage base, dropping it to roughly a quarter of its former power. In exchange, Ball Lightning, Incinerate, Ice Shards, Blizzard, and Fireball all received direct buffs. Spark finally gets a bug fix that lets its damage per hit scaling actually work with the gloves, Teleport grants Unstoppable again when taking the movement speed upgrade, and the Cauldron set no longer makes skills free which opens Hydra enchant on every fire build.

Sorcerer Changes in Season 16:

  • Firewall damage reduced from 300% to 100% (biggest Sorc nerf of the patch)

  • Ball Lightning damage buffed from 60% to 100% (around 25% more damage, 50% with mythic)

  • Incinerate (shock variant) single target damage doubled

  • Fireball Ice Spikes count increased from 3 to 5

  • Habaclava's Cauldron now grants 50 mana regen at max heat instead of free casts

  • Raiment of the Sea grants 25% damage reduction while standing in Blizzard

  • Teleport gains Unstoppable with the movement upgrade again

  • Spark bug fixed so its per-hit multiplier actually works

  • Scornful Aspect reworked to not require distance

  • Lingering Aspect no longer gives Blizzard Ice Spikes max damage value

Best Sorc Builds to Test on 3.3 PTR:

  • Blizzard Sorcerer (lingering bug fix hurts, but Raiment DR + barrier interactions push it as the top Sorc pick)

  • Ball Lightning Sorcerer (meaningful buff finally puts it in A tier range)

  • Incinerate Sorcerer (shock variant now viable with doubled single target)

  • Frozen Orb Sorcerer

  • Fireball Sorcerer (Hydra enchant now works thanks to Cauldron rework)

  • Spark Sorcerer (bug fix might make it a sleeper pick)

3. Barbarian (A Tier)

Barbarian takes a huge haircut in this patch. Charge got nerfed hard, War Cry damage amplification dropped from around 40 to 45% down to just 15%, and most ancient shout builds are feeling the pain. The flip side is that Double Swing and Frenzy got real buffs, Moonrise Aspect went up to 80% damage, Limitless Rage was buffed, and the Signet of Pelkind was removed from Barbarian and Druid access. One-hand builds, Expertise, and some unique items got targeted buffs too. The class drops a tier but still has strong options.

Barb Changes in Season 16:

  • Charge damage substantially reduced

  • War Cry damage amplification cut from 40 to 45% range down to 15% with diminishing returns rework

  • Ancient shouts generally weakened

  • Double Swing and Frenzy received buffs

  • Moonrise Aspect damage increased to 80%

  • Limitless Rage buffed

  • One-hand weapon scaling improved

  • Expertise and Weapon Mastery buffed

  • Signet of Pelkind removed from Barb access

  • DOT buffs that benefit Rend and similar builds

Best Barb Builds to Test on 3.3 PTR:

  • Double Swing Barbarian (biggest winner of the patch with Moonrise + Frenzy synergy)

  • Frenzy Barbarian (new identity thanks to Moonrise and Limitless Rage buffs)

  • Rend Barbarian (benefits from general DoT buffs)

  • Charge Barbarian (still playable, just no longer dominant)

  • HotA Barbarian

  • Bash Barbarian

4. Paladin (A Tier)

Paladin is the biggest climber in Season 16. Aura Potency now scales with skill ranks included, which was a known weak spot of the class. Zeal gets major buffs, Zealot Oath was buffed, Hammerdin picks up the Oath damage bonus, and auras in general got rebalanced to give the class real identity. The sets still have some holdover issues, but the general direction gives Paladin players a real reason to come back.

Paladin Changes in Season 16:

  • Aura Potency reworked to scale with skill ranks (massive power upgrade)

  • Zeal buffed across the board

  • Zealot Oath buffed

  • Several Oath skills reworked

  • Hammerdin Oath damage synergy maintained

  • Various bug fixes benefiting Paladin builds

  • Small reduction to some Aura Potency sources to balance the rework

Best Paladin Builds to Test on 3.3 PTR:

  • Zeal Paladin (biggest Paladin winner, Rob called it out as a top pick)

  • Hammerdin (Oath buffs plus Aura Potency rework)

  • Judgment Paladin (benefits from both Aura changes and existing single-target scaling)

  • Wing Strike Paladin

  • Divine Lance Paladin

  • Thorns Paladin

5. Rogue (B+ Tier)

Rogue takes the opposite path from Season 15 by losing some of its dominant ranged options. Poison Pen Shot, Rain of Arrows, and Rapid Fire all got nerfs, cutting into the top end of the Rogue meta. However, Shadow Imbuement received buffs and a long list of bug fixes benefits Rogue damage scaling that was previously not applying correctly. Expect Shadow builds and some of the melee variants to climb while the ranged pushers settle a bit lower.

Rogue Changes in Season 16:

  • Pen Shot damage reduced

  • Rain of Arrows damage reduced

  • Rapid Fire damage reduced

  • Shadow Imbuement buffed

  • Several damage calculation bug fixes benefit Rogue builds

  • Standard Rogue mobility and combo point systems left alone

Best Rogue Builds to Test on 3.3 PTR:

  • Shadow Imbuement Rogue (new meta contender)

  • Dance of Knives Rogue (unchanged, still smooth)

  • Twisting Blade Rogue

  • Heartseeker Rogue

  • Death Trap Rogue

  • Poison Pen Shot Rogue (still playable just not dominant)

6. Spiritborn (B+ Tier)

Spiritborn moves down from its Season 15 position because both Stinger and Counterattack got nerfed. However, Razor Wings and Paragon buffs give some of the fun shooting builds a chance to come back. The Jassin Shell was reworked to drain Vigor instead of life and now grants damage reduction, which could put the chest back in rotation. Expect the Spiritborn meta to shift away from the top pushers and toward more balanced mid-tier options.

Spiritborn Changes in Season 16:

  • Stinger damage reduced

  • Counterattack damage reduced

  • Jassin Shell reworked to drain Vigor and grant damage reduction

  • Razor Wings and related Paragon nodes buffed

  • Other kit buffs for underused builds

Best Spiritborn Builds to Test on 3.3 PTR:

  • Razor Wings Spiritborn (returning to the meta thanks to Jassin Shell rework)

  • Quill Volley Spiritborn

  • Poison Swarm Spiritborn (nerfed but still functional with DoT scaling)

  • Firestorm Evade Spiritborn

  • Crushing Hands Spiritborn

  • Stinger Spiritborn (now a mid-tier leveling pick rather than endgame)

7. Necromancer (B- Tier)

Necromancer gets a mixed bag. Blood Orb healing, Decrepify life tap healing, and Skeleton Warrior healing all got nerfed, which cuts into the survivability of Blood builds. On the flip side, Bone Spear received direct buffs, the Book of the Dead got reworked with mostly buffs, and several bug fixes benefit the class. The mobility issues and clunky gameplay remain unaddressed, so Necromancer stays near the bottom of the pack.

Necro Changes in Season 16:

  • Blood Orb healing reduced

  • Decrepify life tap healing reduced

  • Skeleton Warrior healing reduced

  • Bone Spear buffed

  • Book of the Dead reworked with buffs to most options

  • Several class bug fixes

  • Mobility issues not addressed

Best Necro Builds to Test on 3.3 PTR:

  • Bone Spear Necromancer (new meta contender thanks to buffs)

  • Shadow DoT Necromancer

  • Minion Necromancer (Book of the Dead rework helps)

  • Blood Wave Necromancer (hurt by healing nerfs)

  • Bone Spirit Necromancer

  • Golem Summoner Necromancer

8. Druid (C Tier)

Druid remains at the bottom despite receiving the most reworked kit of the patch. The primary design goal was to address tag stacking, so Druid skills no longer gain the Nature Magic or Shapeshifting tags from upgrades and variants. Lacerate and Boulder got hit hard, Storm Set took another round of nerfs, and Resolve and Fortify were split between Earth and Druid identity. Landslide and Earthspike are the survivors.

Druid Changes in Season 16:

  • Skills no longer gain Nature Magic or Shapeshifting tags from upgrades

  • Tag stacking reworked across the class

  • Lacerate damage reduced

  • Boulder damage reduced

  • Storm Set further nerfed

  • Earth damage reduced in some nodes

  • Resolve and Fortify split between Earth and Druid identity

  • Spirit Boons reworked, including +100 max Spirit boon that no longer drains on cast

Best Druid Builds to Test on 3.3 PTR:

  • Landslide Druid (one of the survivors of the rework)

  • Earthspike Druid (new contender thanks to tag reworks)

  • Rabies Druid

  • Lightning Storm Druid (Spirit Boon rework could open new ceiling)

  • Shred Druid

  • Bear Companion Druid

Diablo 4 Season 16 Class Balance Winners and Losers

Winners

  • Paladin – The biggest winner of the patch. Aura Potency rework alone is a huge power jump, Zeal eats good, and the general class direction is better than any point in the last several seasons.

  • Sorcerer – Firewall nerf hurts but it leaves room for Ball Lightning, Blizzard, Incinerate, and Spark to all find homes in the meta.

  • Warlock – Still at the top. Lost a little off the two best builds while everything else got better.

Middle

  • Barbarian – Nerfed hard at the top end, but Double Swing and Frenzy get a real moment thanks to Moonrise and Limitless Rage buffs.

  • Rogue – Shadow Imbuement and bug fixes offset the ranged nerfs.

  • Spiritborn – Shifted toward Razor Wings and other fun builds rather than Stinger and Counterattack dominance.

Losers

  • Necromancer – Bone Spear is a nice pickup but healing nerfs hurt the entire class. Mobility still unaddressed.

  • Druid – Big rework that leaves most builds weaker than before. Landslide and Earthspike are the only safe picks.

Season 16 is a season of rebalancing more than content expansion. The new War Plan trees give players real meta progression options for the first time since the system launched, the Horadric items open up multi-set builds that were previously impossible, and permanent Hell Tides remove one of the most annoying downtime loops in the game. On the class side, the patch does good work pulling top builds down a notch while giving sleeper classes like Paladin a real identity.

The Horadric item set-count bonus is the quiet power creep carry of the patch. Even if your favorite build got a haircut on paper, running a 3-piece plus 2-piece set configuration is going to push most builds well past their Season 15 ceiling once the gear comes online.

With the PTR running from October 27th to November 3rd, there is still time for the numbers to shift before Season 16 goes live. Get your builds ready, decide which class fits your playstyle, and prepare for one of the most interesting balance patches Diablo 4 has shipped. See you in Sanctuary.
