D2R Ladder Season 16 Best Paladin Build Guide

Diablo 2 Resurrected Ladder Season 16 brings major item adjustments under Patch 3.4, and the reworked Eternity runeword opens up a unique summoner playstyle for Paladin. Different from traditional Hammerdin or Zealot builds, this setup centers on Revive minions boosted by stacked auras, with Zeal and Fanaticism as your personal backup damage source. This guide covers D2R S16 Summoner Paladin stats, skill allocation, core gear, mercenary setup, swap options, and tips, all built around the new Eternity changes.

D2R Ladder Season 16 Best Paladin Build

The Diablo 2 Eternity Revive Summoner Paladin is an off-meta, aura-stacking build based on the RotW changes in D2R Ladder Season 16. It takes advantage of the reworked Eternity runeword’s +5 Revive O skill, letting you raise fallen monsters to fight alongside you instead of relying purely on your own attacks. As a Paladin, you can layer multiple powerful auras to greatly boost the damage, attack speed and hit rating of your revived minions. You still keep Zeal and Fanaticism for direct melee pressure, which covers weak spots when your summoned army fails to engage. This build trades fast, consistent farming speed for a fun minion playstyle that few other Paladin setups can replicate.

Stats Distribution

Follow a standard strength-first layout to meet gear requirements, with no wasted points on unnecessary attributes.

  • Strength: Put enough points to equip your gear, most critically Veil of Steel which needs 192 Strength.

  • Dexterity: Only allocate the Dexterity required for your weapon base, the Caduceus, which calls for 60 Dexterity. You do not need extra Dexterity for max block here.

  • Vitality: All leftover stat points go into Vitality to raise your life pool. Using Revive costs you life, so extra life helps you stay stable while summoning.

  • Energy: Do not place any points into Energy. Mana can be covered by gear bonuses and regeneration.

Skill Tree

This build leans heavily on Fanaticism to buff your Revive minions, paired with Zeal for your own melee attacks.

  • Fanaticism (Max): This is your main aura. At high levels, it delivers strong attack rating, attack speed and damage for every revived monster you bring out. Testing found level 42 Fanaticism gives the best overall buffs for your army, outperforming high-level Thorns auras for this concept.

  • Zeal: Your personal attacking skill. You use Zeal alongside Fanaticism for single-target damage, especially when your Revive army struggles or dies off.

  • Conversion: You can try Conversion, but it has notable downsides. Adding points only raises the conversion chance; the duration stays locked at 16 seconds, and converted minions cannot follow you through teleport. It adds little reliable value for this build, so it remains a fun side experiment rather than a core skill.

  • Pre-requisite skills: Put only the minimum required points to unlock Zeal and Fanaticism. No extra investment in other auras or defensive skills is needed for this core setup.

Endgame Gear Setup

This build’s heart is the updated Eternity runeword. D2R Patch 3.4 changes Eternity from Revive charges to +5 Revive as an oskill, which is the feature that makes this summoner Paladin work. The listed setup below is the tested main loadout.

  • Weapon: Ethereal Eternity in Caduceus base (Amn + Ber + Ist + Sol  + Sur). This base variant used in testing rolls +3 Fanaticism (Paladin only), +5 Revive, 30% Increased Attack Speed, up to 390% Enhanced Damage, Crushing Blow, 66% Slow Target, Cannot Be Frozen, and Magic Find. The 66% slow stacks with slow sources such as Arachnid Mesh, reaching very high slow values against bosses. It is Indestructible, so the Ethereal downside does not break the weapon. A +3 Fanaticism Ethereal Caduceus base is rare and hard to find.

  • Helm: Veil of Steel. Updated in Patch 3.4, this unique Spired Helm grants +2 to All Skills, high all resistances, magic resistance, physical damage reduction, and extra Strength and Vitality. It has one socket; a Protector Stone can be placed here to improve single-target performance. Its high Strength requirement is the main drawback.

  • Armor: Enigma. Enigma supplies Faster Run/Walk, +2 All Skills, and teleport. Teleport is mandatory for repositioning your Revive group and navigating maps quickly.

  • Amulet: Atma’s Scarab. It has a chance to cast Amplify Damage on striking, which lowers enemy physical resistance for your minions. Keep in mind that Amplify Damage is a curse and can conflict with other curses. You can swap this amulet for Mara’s Kaleidoscope if you need extra all resist and +2 skills instead.

  • Shield: Spirit. Spirit gives +2 All Skills, Faster Cast Rate, resistances and mana bonuses for general utility.

  • Rings: One Bul-Kathos ring for +1 to all skills; fill the second ring slot based on your missing resistances or stats.

  • Boots: Gore Rider. Standard melee boots that supply Crushing Blow and Open Wounds, supporting your own Zeal hits.

  • Belt: Arachnid Mesh. Adds Faster Cast Rate and the slow effect that stacks with Eternity’s Slow Target modifier.

Alternative Shield Option: Marshal's Sacred Targe of Rancor

This rare Paladin shield is a fun experimental swap. It gives +3 Offensive Auras, solid all resistances, and Level 4 Sigil: Rancor charges. Sigil: Rancor buffs nearby minions with extra attack speed and damage. In practice, the effect range is small, and Revive AI is inconsistent. After you teleport, many revived monsters will not automatically move into the sigil area. Once they walk out of range, they lose the buff, so this shield is not a reliable main pick, only for testing.

Weapon Swap: Harmony Bow

Harmony is a critical swap item for this build. It grants Revive charges, and your existing revived monsters do not disappear when you switch to this bow. You can cast extra Revives while holding Harmony. A key rule: if you summon higher-level Revives from Harmony, switching back to your Eternity weapon will cap the Revive level to your oskill limit, and excess minions will die until you hit your cap. This swap lets you collect more bodies safely without losing your current army.

Mercenary Setup (Act 2 Might Mercenary)

Your merc stacks extra auras to multiply Revive damage. This tested combination layers multiple offensive auras at once.

  • Aura base: Might aura from the Act 2 merc.

  • Merc Armor: Bramble. Provides level 21 Thorns aura.

  • Merc Weapon: Pride. Grants level 20 Concentration aura. This stack of Might, Concentration, your own Fanaticism plus Bramble’s Thorns is the strongest known aura combination for boosting Revive damage on this Paladin build. If your merc dies, you lose these supporting auras, and your army’s damage drops sharply.
