Season 15 of Diablo 4 has arrived with a surprise nobody saw coming. Alongside the 30th anniversary celebration content, Blizzard quietly added a full set of classic Diablo 2 style runewords to the game. Players who managed to log in early stumbled onto a hidden crafting recipe involving the Horadric Cube, and the community has been buzzing ever since. This guide covers every new runeword coming in Diablo 4 Season 15 with effects showcased, which builds to use each one, the runes needed to craft each one, and the best ways to farm the runes you need.
Diablo 4 Season 15 New Runewords List & How To Get Runes
Season 15 launched with a mix of new bosses tied to the 30th anniversary (including fights against Diablo and Baal), a fresh Rebirth character transfer system, and a much larger runeword pool than the patch notes suggested. On top of the existing Diablo 4 runes, Blizzard added a batch of old-school D2 style runes across both categories:
New Evocation Runes: Ber, Ith, Lo, Sol, Tir
New Ritual Runes: Am, Mal, Ort, Tal
These runes plug into the Horadric Cube with a white base item to produce brand new runewords. Now that the framework is clear, let's look at each runeword being crafted so far, ranked roughly by power and utility.
Diablo 4 Season 15 Runewords Tier List (Effects, Uses, Rune Combinations)
Below you will find every new runeword currently confirmed, along with its stats, a short overview, best uses, and the rune recipe.
1. Enigma (Unique Chest Armor)
Effects:
+2 to All Skills
+45% Movement Speed
12% Damage Reduction
40% Maximum Life
+[91 – 1,225] Armor
Your Evade is now Sorcerer's Teleport and costs 33 Primary Resource
Enigma is the runeword everyone will want to slot in. Turning your Evade into a Sorcerer Teleport for every class rewrites how mobility works in the game, and the +2 to All Skills plus movement speed and damage reduction round it out into an all-purpose chest.
Best Uses: Universal use across every class and build. Pair it with resource generation stacking so you can chain teleports across the map.
Runes Required: Jah + Ith + Ber
2. Call to Arms (Unique Sword)
Effects:
+[200 – 250]% Weapon Damage
+1 to All Skills
x40% All Damage Multiplier
+5 to Shout Skills
+40% Attack Speed
While affected by a Shout Skill gain: +5 Ranks to all Skills, +15% Maximum Life, +15%[x] Maximum Primary Resource
A Barbarian-flavored powerhouse. With +5 Shouts baseline and another +5 to all skills while a Shout is active, this weapon effectively hands out +10 to Shout ranks alongside massive damage numbers.
Best Uses: Barbarian Shout-based builds. Slot it as an off-hand weapon paired with a Magnum Opus setup for peak buff uptime.
Runes Required: Amn + Ral + Mal + Ist + Ohm
3. Spirit (Unique Sword)
Effects:
+5 to All Skills
+[25 – 35]% Attack Speed
x50% All Damage Multiplier
+[20 – 56]% Maximum Resource
50.0% Impairment Reduction
A generalist weapon that hits hard for almost any class. +5 to all skills combined with a flat 50x damage multiplier and huge resource capacity puts it near the top of the list, and the rune requirements are less demanding than most competitors.
Best Uses: Any caster or resource-hungry build. Also potentially usable on a shield slot for defensive setups.
Runes Required: Tal + Thul + Ort + Amn
4. Grief (Unique Phase Blade)
Effects:
+[750 – 1,000]% Weapon Damage
+20% Deadly Strike Chance
+[30 – 40]% Attack Speed
+100% Damage to Demons
+2 Primary Resource on Kill
Your direct damage inflicts 40% bonus Poisoning damage over 5 seconds
Fast attacks, sky-high weapon damage, and a built-in poison DoT rider make Grief a serious contender for physical and poison DPS builds.
Best Uses: Poison-scaling builds, Rogue setups, and fast-attacking melee classes.
Runes Required: Eth + Tir + Lo + Mal + Ral
5. Insight (Unique Staff)
Effects:
+35% Attack Speed
+[16 – 46]% Critical Strike Chance
+[2 – 345] Weapon Damage
+[2 – 360] All Stats
x200% Critical Strike Damage Multiplier
A crit-focused staff for Sorcerers with one of the strongest crit damage multipliers in the game. The 46% crit chance ceiling alone makes it best-in-slot for many spellcasters.
Best Uses: Sorcerer builds that stack critical strike damage. If you can push it to a Greater Affix, it becomes even more absurd.
Runes Required: Ral + Tir + Tal + Sol
6. Infinity (Unique Staff)
Effects:
Lucky Hit: Up to 40% Chance to deliver a Crushing Blow
+35% Movement Speed
+[2 – 4,400] Maximum Life
+[100 – 200]% Gold Drop Rate
50% Chance to unleash a Rank 20 Sorcerer Chain Lightning when you kill an enemy
Gain the Rank 22 passive of Druid's Cyclone Armor
Close enemies are Vulnerable and take 125%[x] more damage from you
A hybrid speed-farming and burst weapon. The vulnerable aura only fires against close targets, so this rewards aggressive melee-range play despite being a staff.
Best Uses: Speed farming, gold farming, and melee-oriented staff builds that can stay in the pocket of enemy packs.
Runes Required: Ber + Mal + Ber + Ist
7. Phoenix (Unique Sword)
Effects:
+[1 – 632] Life on Kill
Lucky Hit: Up to 40% Chance to deal +[1,500 – 2,400] Fire Damage
+20% Deadly Strike Chance
x50% All Damage Multiplier
When you level up, unleash a Rank 40 Ring of Fire
Lucky Hit: Attacks have up to a [15 – 30]% chance to unleash a Rank 22 Fire Spear
A leveling and fire-themed powerhouse. The Ring of Fire proc on level-up could trigger during Paragon gains, which would keep the AoE going deep into the endgame.
Best Uses: Fire builds, leveling runs, and Sorcerer Fire Spear synergy setups.
Runes Required: Vex + Vex + Lo + Jah
8. Rain (Unique Chest Armor)
Effects:
+[25 – 40]% Maximum Resource
+5 to Nature Magic Skills
10% Damage Reduction
+35% Lightning Resistance
10% Dodge Chance
Lucky Hit: Up to [15 – 30]% chance to unleash a Rank 15 Druid Tornado
50% Chance to unleash a Rank 15 Druid Cyclone Armor whenever you Dodge
A Druid-focused chest that adds both offensive and defensive procs. The tornado and cyclone armor triggers work as free damage and defense layers on top of the base stat line.
Best Uses: Druid Nature Magic builds, especially Tornado or Storm-flavored setups.
Runes Required: Ort + Mal + Ith
9. Stealth (Unique Chest Armor)
Effects:
+[1 – 2,200] Maximum Life
+25% Attack Speed
25% Impairment Reduction
15% Resource Generation
+25% Movement Speed
15% Damage Reduction
Your Evade is now Sorcerer's Teleport and costs 33 Primary Resource
The classic D2 leveling chest returns, and it still hits hard for early progression. Attack speed, movement speed, resource generation, and damage reduction all on one piece at level 17 is absurd value.
Best Uses: Leveling builds across every class. Swap out later for Enigma or another endgame chest.
Runes Required: Tal + Eth
10. Strength (Unique Sword)
Effects:
Lucky Hit: Up to 25% Chance to deliver a Crushing Blow
x50% All Damage Multiplier
+10% Strength
+[1 – 2,200] Maximum Life
+[1 – 948] Life on Hit
+2 Primary Resource on Kill
A solid generic melee weapon with Crushing Blow, which acts like a bonus crit on top of a crit. Good filler until you find a class-specific weapon.
Best Uses: Strength-scaling classes and ZDPS or support builds where Crushing Blow shines against bosses.
Runes Required: Amn + Tir
11. King's Grace (Unique Mace)
Effects:
+100% Damage to Demons
+100% Damage to Undead
+[1 – 948] Life on Hit
+50% Lucky Hit Chance
x75% All Damage Multiplier
Overview: A generic damage stick with strong monster-type bonuses. Not flashy, but the 75x multiplier and life on hit make it reliable filler.
Best Uses: Paladin-style builds hunting demons and undead, or any melee build needing sustain.
Runes Required: Amn + Ral + Thul
12. Holy Thunder (Unique Mace)
Effects:
+35% Lightning Resistance
x50% All Damage Multiplier
+20% Lucky Hit Chance
You emit Crackling Energy
Enemies damaged by Crackling Energy take [20 – 35]%[x] increased Holy, Fire, Lightning, and Physical damage from you for 3 seconds
A hybrid elemental amplifier with passive Crackling Energy. The multiplier cap sits lower than other options, so it works better as a leveling or midgame tool.
Best Uses: Multi-element builds and Paladin-flavored setups.
Runes Required: Eth + Ral + Ort + Tal
13. Pattern (Unique Dagger)
Effects:
30% Block Chance
x50% All Damage Multiplier
+10% All Stats
Lucky Hit: Up to 40% Chance to deal +[400 – 2,700] Poisoning Damage over 10 seconds
+[10 – 20]% Critical Strike Chance
+[203 – 400] Resistance to All Elements
Overview: A defensive dagger with the rare stat of block chance. The resistance and block combo make it good for tanky Rogue setups.
Best Uses: Defensive Rogue builds or poison-focused off-hand slots.
Runes Required: Tal + Ort + Thul
14. Edge (Unique Staff)
Effects:
+35% Attack Speed
+200% Damage to Demons
Lucky Hit: Up to 40% Chance to deal +[800 – 5,400] Poisoning Damage over 10 seconds
+[2 – 360] All Stats
+[50 – 5,917] Thorns
+200% Damage to Undead
15% Chance for an extra item from the Purveyor of Curiosities
The extra item chance from the Purveyor is a unique effect worth using while gambling gear. Combat stats are decent, and Thorns builds could see some play here.
Best Uses: Thorns Druid or Barbarian builds, plus keeping equipped while gambling Obols for Opals.
Runes Required: Tir + Tal + Amn
15. Prudence (Unique Chest Armor)
Effects:
Indestructible
+500 Resistance to All Elements
10% Damage Reduction
25% Impairment Reduction
+[20 – 35]% Total Armor
+2 Primary Resource on Kill
10% Dodge Chance
A pure defensive chest with monster resistance and total armor gains. Nice for hardcore or tanky setups but lacks offensive push.
Best Uses: Hardcore mode, tank builds, or leveling runs where survival matters most.
Runes Required: Mal + Tir
16. Lore (Unique Helm)
Effects:
+2 to All Skills
+25 Maximum Resource
10% Damage Reduction
+[1 – 2,800] Lightning Resistance
+2 Primary Resource on Kill
+[183 – 2,500] Armor
A basic +2 all skills helm. The stat spread is fine, but Leoric's Crown drops so early in the season that Lore rarely gets used.
Best Uses: A stopgap helm before Leoric's Crown drops.
Runes Required: Ort + Sol
17. Leaf (Unique Staff)
Effects:
+4 Primary Resource on Kill
+35% Cold Resistance
+20% Resource Generation
The weakest of the current bunch. Likely bugged or missing stats, since the classic D2 Leaf offered ranks to fire skills. Right now it works as a resource-focused leveling staff.
Best Uses: Early leveling for resource-hungry Sorcerer builds.
Runes Required: Tir + Ral
How To Craft the New Runewords
Now that you know which runewords to chase, here is the recipe for actually crafting them.
The Horadric Cube Recipe
Crafting these runewords works differently from standard Diablo 4 sockets. Instead of slotting runes into gear, you place items into the Horadric Cube:
Pick up a white (Common) base item that matches the runeword's item type (chest, sword, staff, etc.).
Open the Horadric Cube interface.
Place the white base and the exact rune combination into the cube.
Press Transmute. The greyed-out button becomes active once every required rune is added.
The cube outputs the finished runeword item.
Notes on Requirements
Because Diablo 4 items normally hold only two socketed runes, this cube-based method sidesteps the two-rune cap and lets you make runewords with three, four, or even five runes.
Both Evocation and Ritual runes can be mixed freely in cube recipes.
Some data-mined recipes may still shift, since Blizzard has not officially detailed the system yet.
How To Farm Runes
Once you know the recipe, farming enough runes is the next step. Here are the best sources for stacking up your rune supply this season.
Kill Elite Monsters and Bosses
Regular elite packs across Sanctuary drop runes, and boss encounters have a higher chance to spit out higher-tier evocation and ritual runes. Focus on Helltides and Nightmare Dungeons for a steady flow of drops.
Run the Pit of Artificers
The Pit remains one of the top rune farming activities. Higher Pit tiers roll better rune quality, so push as deep as your build allows.
Use the Purveyor of Curiosities
Gambling Obols at the Purveyor can produce runes, especially when you equip the new Edge staff for the extra item chance. Save your Obols for rune rolls once your gear is set.
Trade with Other Players
Because many runewords need four or five specific runes, trading is often faster than farming. Join active community servers and use trade chat to swap duplicates for the runes you actually need.
Rebirth Character Transfer
The new Rebirth system lets you carry crafting materials from your eternal characters into Season 15. If you saved runes on an old character, transfer them over for an instant head start.
Season 15 turned out to be far more than a quiet anniversary patch. With 17 confirmed new runewords, a hidden Horadric Cube crafting layer, and a full batch of new evocation and ritual runes, there is enough content here to keep theorycrafters busy for weeks. Start with a Stealth for leveling, work toward Enigma for teleport mobility, and chase Spirit, Call to Arms, or Grief depending on your class. The runeword hunt is officially on.
