Midnight 12.1 Ranged Tier List - Best Ranged DPS in WOW Midnight 12.1

July 06, 2026 WoW Classic Guides

Diablo-style class reworks, powerful new tier sets, and Blizzard's ongoing effort to shift power away from burst cooldowns and into baseline abilities are dramatically reshaping the ranged DPS landscape in WoW Midnight Patch 12.1.  In this WOW Midnight ranged tier list, we have ranked the best ranged DPS for Season 2.

WoW Midnight 12.1 Ranged DPS Tier List  - Midnight Season 2 Ranged Ranking

Based on the current Midnight 12.1 PTR tuning, raid testing, Mythic+ performance, tier set bonuses, and Blizzard's new design philosophy of shifting power away from cooldowns and into baseline abilities, the ranged DPS meta is beginning to take shape. Several traditionally dominant specs remain strong, while others have received significant improvements through tier set interactions and rotational reworks. Traditional powerhouses like Frost Mage and Demonology Warlock remain dominant, while Shadow Priest has become one of the biggest success stories of the patch thanks to major gameplay improvements. Meanwhile, Beast Mastery Hunter is generating significant attention with its massively buffed Cobra Shot build, and Elemental Shaman continues to deliver exceptional versatility across all forms of content.

S-Tier

Beast Mastery Hunter

BM Hunter is currently one of the strongest ranged specs in the game. The massive Cobra Shot buffs combined with powerful tier set interactions have transformed a traditional filler ability into a major damage source. BM delivers elite single-target damage, excellent cleave, full mobility while attacking, and outstanding Mythic+ utility. It excels in nearly every type of content.

Frost Mage

Frost Mage remains one of the safest and most reliable ranged DPS choices. While it received few major changes, it was already performing at a high level. Strong Glacial Spike interactions, exceptional control, survivability, and consistent damage keep Frost firmly at the top of both raid and Mythic+ rankings.

Demonology Warlock

Demonology benefits tremendously from the current PTR environment. Its demon army provides strong sustained damage, excellent cleave, and reliable boss performance. The spec scales well with encounter length and remains one of the most complete ranged DPS options available.

Shadow Priest

Shadow Priest is one of the biggest winners of Patch 12.1. The Void Volley redesign removes much of the spec's rotational frustration while significantly increasing burst flexibility. Shadow excels whenever encounters feature multiple long-lived targets and is finally competitive after struggling for much of the previous season.

Elemental Shaman

Elemental continues to be one of the most well-rounded ranged specs in the game. Strong burst AoE, excellent utility, powerful interrupts, and solid scaling make it a premier choice for both raids and Mythic+ dungeons.

A-Tier

Augmentation Evoker

Augmentation remains one of the most valuable support-DPS specs. While its personal damage is lower than pure DPS classes, its ability to amplify top-performing teammates ensures a permanent place in high-end raid and Mythic+ compositions.

Balance Druid

Balance offers strong sustained damage, excellent raid utility, and flexible target profiles. While it lacks the explosive strengths of the S-Tier specs, it remains a highly reliable choice for progression content.

Marksmanship Hunter

MM Hunter still delivers strong burst damage and excellent priority-target pressure. However, BM's superior mobility and current tuning advantage place Marksmanship slightly behind its Hunter counterpart.

Devastation Evoker

Devastation provides excellent burst windows and solid cleave potential. It remains competitive but lacks the overwhelming utility and consistency offered by the very top specs.

Affliction Warlock

Affliction continues to excel in multi-target encounters where DoTs can fully ramp. While dungeon performance can be inconsistent due to setup requirements, raid encounters often favor its strengths.

B-Tier

Arcane Mage

Arcane remains capable of strong damage in skilled hands but continues to struggle with movement-heavy encounters and rotational complexity. It lacks the consistency that Frost currently provides.

Fire Mage

Fire has fallen behind significantly in the current PTR environment. While still capable of strong burst windows, its overall tuning and scaling currently trail Frost Mage by a noticeable margin.

Destruction Warlock

Destruction suffers from slower damage ramp and weaker overall scaling compared to Demonology. The spec remains playable but currently lacks a compelling reason to choose it over other ranged alternatives.

Midnight 12.1 Best Ranged DPS

1. Shadow Priest

2. Beast Mastery Hunter

3. Frost Mage

4. Demonology Warlock

5. Elemental Shaman

Beast Mastery Hunter (potential Cobra Shot nerfs). Shadow Priest (possible Shade Burst buffs). Fire Mage (possible damage increases). Destruction Warlock (likely tuning adjustments). As the PTR continues, expect several tuning passes before Season 2 launches, but BM Hunter, Frost Mage, Shadow Priest, Demonology Warlock, and Elemental Shaman currently appear to be the strongest ranged DPS picks heading into WoW Midnight 12.1.
