Between sweeping talent reworks, aggressive pruning, and the introduction of Hero Talent trees, Midnight represents one of the most disruptive expansions in recent WoW history. This tier list breaks down the best and worst main choices in WoW Midnight across DPS, healers, tanks, and PvP, based on current beta performance, design direction, and long-term viability rather than raw numbers alone. Specs
WoW Midnight Main DPS Tier List
S Tier
Frost Mage: The #1 highlighted spec. Called a "one-of-one" with a fantastic rework.Complete overhaul of the talent tree and rotation. The new "Shatter" debuff system replaces the old proc-based RNG, making it feel strategic and fresh. New core cooldown (Ray of Frost). Both Hero Talent trees feel great. It's a revitalized, unique caster.
Unholy Death Knight: Received the "biggest rework" of any class. Completely transformed from a Festering Wound melee spec into a shadow/plague-based pet commander. Plays like a mix of Demonology Warlock and classic Unholy. Focus on summoning minions, sacrificing them for power, and spreading disease. Considered very fun, thematic, and powerful across all content.
Affliction Warlock: Successfully returned to its classic DoT identity. No longer revolves around clunky Malefic Rapture windows. Now focuses on spreading and amplifying DoTs (Agony, Corruption) and using Unstable Affliction and Seed of Corruption as spenders. The "dark harvest" channel ability epitomizes the slow-ramp into massive rot damage that players love about the fantasy.
Devastation Evoker: Didn't need a major rework because its core is strong, but received excellent tweaks.Flame Shaper and Scalecommander Hero Talent trees are much improved. Key addition: Strafing Run allows back-to-back Deep Breath casts (one of the most fun abilities in the game), making the rotation more dynamic and explosive. Remains a visually spectacular and satisfying caster.
Elemental Shaman: A masterclass in smart pruning and talent tree redesign. Talent tree reorganized to clearly differentiate Fire and Lightning paths. New tools like Purging Flames enable a machine-gun Lava Burst playstyle in AoE. Retains the best visual/sound effects in the game and the iconic "earthquake spam" fantasy. Both Hero Talent trees are viable.
D Tier
Subtlety Rogue: Catastrophic over-pruning and lost identity. Sky calls it almost "borderline unplayable" from a fun perspective. The intricate setup and execution that defined the spec are gone. Key abilities like Symbols of Death, Flagellation, Rupture (for procs), and Shadow Dance modifiers have been removed.
Fire Mage: Severely pruned without replacement, boring outside of cooldowns. It suffers the same fate as Subtlety Rogue. Core, fun abilities like Phoenix Flames, Unleashed Inferno, and Sun King's Blessing are gone, and nothing exciting was added. Sky states that outside of the (still fun) Combustion window, it's "easily the most boring spec in the game.
Augmentation Evoker: Fundamental design flaw as WoW's only "support" spec. Sky argues the spec is doomed because it's a singleton in a game not built for the role. It's "never ever ever be balanced properly." Its gameplay is "not interactive" and it received no meaningful changes for Midnight. It consistently has the lowest player participation.
WoW Midnight Main Healer Tier List
S Tier
Holy Paladin: Sky calls this a "massive surprise" and a "banger." Holy Paladin struggled in The War Within but has received a top-to-bottom talent tree rework for Midnight. Streamlined, fun, and powerful. Sky is "very excited to play this class." This is the premier choice if you want a healer that feels revitalized and incredibly strong.
Restoration Druid: The Raw Powerhouse. While it didn't get many changes, it didn't need them. Sky states it has "some of the highest, if not the best, healing numbers in the entire game." An "absolute W." The spec is simple, effective, and overpoweringly strong. Sky expects a nerf but confirms it's "absolutely main-worthy" in its current state. Pick this if you want to top meters with minimal fuss.
D Tier
Holy Priest: Stripped of key tools and over-simplified. It was "stripped the most" of any healer. Beloved and iconic abilities like Divine Star, Lightwell, and Premonition are gone. Renew is now a passive, not an active spell.
WoW Midnight Main Tank Tier List
S Tier
Vengeance Demon Hunter: Positioned as the likely dominant tank yet again. Sky says, "another season where vengeance looks to dominate." The "safe" meta pick. If you want a tank that is always strong, deals incredible damage, and is nearly unkillable in skilled hands, Vengeance DH is your choice.
D Tier
Blood Death Knight: Unfun rotation change and unaddressed core survivability issue. A tank that feels worse to play than before, with a stressful and unrewarding survival pattern. It lacks the reliable mitigation of its peers (like the recently buffed Protection Paladin).
WoW Midnight PvP Main Tier List
S+ Tier
These specs are considered exceptional all-around PvP mains. They have powerful, well-rounded kits, high survivability, and excel in multiple formats.
Unholy Death Knight: Praised for its rework. Has significant ranged damage, incredible self-healing from minions, strong AoE, and all the inherent DK utility (Grip, slows).
Havoc Demon Hunter: Carried by extreme mobility and insane self-sustainability. Heals massively through orbs and leech while dealing damage, making them very hard to kill.
Feral Druid: Excellent in 1v1, open world, and for capturing objectives. Great damage, sustainability, and the invaluable stealth utility.
Restoration Druid: Considered one of the best healers due to its unparalleled toolkit (Cyclone, Roots, Stealth, Mobility). Can "carry" games with utility even if healing output is average.
Subtlety Rogue: The quintessential PvP spec. Stealth allows for picking fights and capping objectives. The new shorter cooldown on Cheap Shot makes their crowd control chain extremely potent.
Demonology Warlock: A monster in 1v1 with overwhelming CC and a Mortal Strike effect. Very tanky with strong self-healing (Healthstones, Drain Life).
Destruction Warlock: Similar strengths to Demonology—tons of tools, great sustain, and very strong in open world/solo situations.
S Tier
Top-tier specs that are excellent choices but may have a slight weakness or are slightly more specialized than S+.
Affliction Warlock: Incredibly strong in Battlegrounds and open world due to spreading damage and CC. Weaker in Arenas because its major burst requires long, vulnerable casting.
Retribution Paladin: Extremely durable with "three health bars" (bubbles, Lay on Hands). Great in 1v1 for defending/capturing bases and has strong utility.
Balance Druid: An S+ Tier spec in Battlegrounds due to insane AoE damage, knockbacks, and Cyclone. Ranked S overall because it's less potent in pure 1v1/dueling scenarios.
Fire Mage: Has instant-cast damage in Arenas, a powerful 1-minute burst cooldown, and Cauterize now heals for 80% max health, giving incredible survivability.
Holy Paladin: Strong healing output and an easy-to-learn, aggressive playstyle. Can contribute meaningful damage.
Discipline Priest: Always valuable due to Power Infusion and Pain Suppression. Consistently a strong arena healer.
Elemental Shaman: Has one of the best toolkits in the game (AoE stun, root totem, knockback, purge). Can control fights and "carry" battlegrounds, but requires good management of many globals.
Restoration Shaman: The only healer with an interrupt ("kick"). Has strong passive healing, great utility totems, and is a very safe, versatile main.
A+ Tier
Solid specs that are very good and can absolutely be mained, especially if you enjoy their playstyle. They might lack the overwhelming all-round power of the higher tiers or have more noticeable flaws.
Fury Warrior & Arms Warrior: Tanky with strong self-healing from Second Wind, making them great in duels. Their impact in large-scale battlegrounds is less pronounced, and they can be kited.
Guardian Druid & Blood Death Knight: The top tanks for PvP. Guardian is noted as the best—extremely tanky, good damage, and has stealth. Blood DK is very sustainable and hard to kill.
Frost Death Knight: Has the amazing base DK utility (Grip, slows) but is more melee-reliant than Unholy and has less self-healing.
Outlaw Rogue: Fun with high self-healing, but can be kited more easily than Subtlety in Arenas.
Devastation Evoker, Marksmanship & Survival Hunter: Strong damage specs. Devastation is great in Arenas but weaker in 1v1. Hunters have good utility and range but lack self-healing.
Assassination Rogue, Frost Mage, Brewmaster Monk, Protection Paladin, Preservation Evoker, Mistweaver Monk, Holy Priest: This group represents solid, middle-of-the-pack specs. They are viable but often outshone by others in their role (e.g., Mistweaver's toolkit isn't as prized as a Resto Druid's; Holy Priest is very reliant on raw output).
A Tier
These specs are decent but have clear weaknesses or require a lot of skill/fondness for the playstyle to succeed as a main across all PvP content.
Enhancement Shaman: Very fun and deals good damage, but is extremely melee-dependent for both damage and healing, making it easy to kite and kill.
Windwalker Monk: Loved by the creator, but considered undertuned. Has high damage but the worst self-healing of any DPS, making it tough in open world and sustained fights.
Vengeance Demon Hunter: The creator has little experience but ranks it as the weakest tank due to a less impactful toolkit.
Arcane Mage: Reliant on casting for burst, can be easily shut down, and lost key defensive tools. Carried mainly by damage numbers.
B Tier
Augmentation Evoker: Positioned as a spec you only main if you absolutely love it. It's reliant on teammates to be effective and doesn't have the independent carry potential or versatility of higher-ranked specs. The creator admits limited experience with Evokers.
