How to Get, Activate & Use Savage Fury in PoE 2?

December 18, 2025 Path of Exile 2

Savage Fury is a valuable gem in Path of Exile 2, especially for builds focused on fast attacks and burst damage. This guide covers how to get, activate and use Savage Fury effectively in PoE 2 0.4.

How to Get, Activate & Use PoE 2 Savage Fury

Savage Fury is a persistent Spirit buff gem with a duration tied to your accumulated Fury. It falls under the spirit gem category and offers a powerful boost when activated, though it comes with a life cost.

Savage Fury Requirements

  • Stats: You need 4 to 86 Strength (Str) and 4 to 86 Intelligence (Int) (amounts depend on the gem’s level).

  • Spirit Reservation: 30 Spirit to keep the gem active.

Savage Fury Description

While the gem is active, you build Fury by attacking enemies. Activating the skill releases this Fury, putting you into a bestial frenzy. You gain extra damage and Onslaught during the frenzy but lose life steadily. The frenzy stops right away if you switch back to human form, and you can’t gain Fury while in the frenzy state.

Savage Fury Effects

  • Gain 1 Fury per attack hit, but no more than once per skill use.

  • Maximum Fury cap is 20.

  • The buff’s duration equals 0.5 seconds per Fury (so 10 seconds at full Fury).

  • Buff grants Onslaught (20% increased skill speed and 10% increased movement speed) plus 20–29% more damage (base value).

  • While the buff is active, you lose 3% of your maximum Life per second.

  • Quality on the gem adds 0–5% more damage to the buff’s effect.

  • Fury does not decrease over time—once you hit max, it stays there until you use the buff.

How to Get PoE 2 Savage Fury?

Savage Fury is a spirit gem, so your first task is to get an Uncut Spirit Gem. To obtain your first Uncut Spirit Gem, you should head to Act 1, zone 3, where you can defeat the boss King in the Mists during the side quest called "Ominous Altars." This boss is guaranteed to drop one Uncut Spirit Gem.

Other reliable sources for Uncut Spirit Gems include the Golden Tomb in Act 2 (located in a secret area within The Lost City zone) and Igdanduk, The Bog Witch boss in Act 3, which has a higher chance to drop the gem but is not guaranteed. Besides these, you can occasionally find Uncut Spirit Gems as rare drops from other Rare and Boss enemies, or from chests scattered throughout the game.

How to Activate and Use PoE 2 Savage Fury?

Savage Fury has a two-part system (passive and active) and some key rules to follow—ignore these and the gem won’t work as expected.

Step 1: Activate the Gem’s Passive Effect

Once you have the Savage Fury gem, open your inventory or gem menu. Right-click the gem to activate its passive component. You’ll know it’s active if you see a small icon in your skill panel—this icon tracks your Fury as it builds up. Without activating the passive first, you won’t gain any Fury from attacks.

Step 2: Assign the Active Skill to Your Hotbar

You can’t drag and drop Savage Fury directly onto your hotbar like some other skills. Instead:

  • Find an empty slot on your hotbar.

  • Click the empty slot—this will bring up a list of available skills.

  • Look for Savage Fury in the list and select it to assign it to that slot.

Note for gamepad users: Some players have trouble finding the binding option when using a gamepad. The game may mistakenly categorize Savage Fury as an aura, which hides the binding option. This is a common issue that may get fixed in future updates—for now, double-check your hotbar menu if you don’t see it right away.

Step 3: Build Up Fury

With the passive and active skills assigned, start attacking enemies. You gain 1 Fury per attack hit, but no more than once per skill use. Fury doesn’t decrease over time—once you hit the maximum (20 Fury), it stays at 100% until you use it. Fast attacks work best here, as they let you build Fury quicker.

Step 4: Manually Activate the Buff

Savage Fury won’t trigger automatically when your Fury is full. When the gauge hits 100% (20 Fury), press the hotbar button you assigned to Savage Fury. You’ll know it’s active if a countdown timer appears in your buff bar—this timer shows how long the frenzy will last (up to 10 seconds, since each Fury gives 0.5 seconds of duration).

Key Rules for Using Savage Fury

  • Match your form to your weapon: Savage Fury is tied to your weapon’s designated form. If your weapon is set to Wolf form, use the buff in Wolf form. If it’s set to Bear form, use it in Bear form. Using it in a form that doesn’t match your weapon will cause a bug—your Fury will be consumed, but you won’t get any buffs.

  • Stick to one form mid-buff: Never switch forms while the Savage Fury buff is active. Switching to human form, or between Bear and Wolf forms, will cancel the buff immediately. Activate the buff only when you’re ready to stay in your chosen combat form for the full duration.

  • Choose Wolf form for reliability: Many players report that Savage Fury works consistently in Wolf form. In Bear form, it often fails to grant the buff even after consuming Fury—so Wolf form is the more trustworthy choice for now.

Bug-Related Tips (Temporary)

These are unintended behaviors that may be fixed in updates, but they can help in leveling or early gameplay:

  • Cross-weapon Fury accumulation: If you activate Savage Fury on your secondary weapon set, you can still build Fury by attacking with your primary weapon set. You can also trigger the buff while using your primary weapon.

  • Spirit-free usage (exploit): If you activate Savage Fury only on a non-talisman secondary weapon set, you can use its buff in shapeshift (e.g., Wolf form) without consuming any Spirit. This lets your talisman weapon set keep full Spirit for other skills like Herald of Ice. Keep in mind, this is an exploit and will likely be patched soon.

Best Build for PoE 2 Savage Fury

The recommended build for Savage Fury is a Demon Bear build. It’s a tanky melee build that pairs perfectly with Savage Fury’s burst damage and Onslaught, while handling the life drain with strong defenses. This build is a warrior-titan hybrid focused on end-game content and speed leveling. It excels at dealing high damage, has massive armor for defense, and uses shape-shifting to maximize Savage Fury’s potential. It also includes self-ignite immunity with added benefits and easy-to-use skills.

Gear

  • Weapon: Fury of the King (grants Molten Crash, a map-clearing ability and boss opener).

  • Helmet: Paragon Greathelm (boosts defense and stats).

  • Armor: The Brass Dome (provides exceptional armor, key for tankiness).

  • Rings: Prismatic Ring (elemental resistance), Gold Ring (look for Blood Magic or utility stats).

  • Amulet: Bloodstone Amulet (enhances life and damage).

  • Gloves: Knightly Mitts (prioritize +Melee Skills and Attack Speed).

  • Belt: Plate Belt (adds defense and stat bonuses).

  • Boots: Bulwark Greaves (increases armor and movement speed).

  • Flasks: Ultimate Life Flask (counteracts Savage Fury’s life drain), Ultimate Mana Flask (sustains skills).
