A corrupted currency that randomly increases or decreases the tier of each modifier on a corrupted item. Unlike a regular Divine Orb (which rerolls values within the same tier), the Tainted Divine Teardrop can upgrade or downgrade tiers. Only works on corrupted items (similar to other Tainted currencies).
Each modifier (prefix/suffix) has a chance to increase or decrease in tier. The numerical value is rerolled within the new tier. Does not add or remove modifiers (only changes existing ones). Process is entirely random—could make an item better or worse.
Example:
An item has T1 Life (100-109) → After using Tainted Divine Teardrop, it could become:
T1 Life (100-109) (unchanged)
T2 Life (90-99) (downgraded)
T0 Life (110-119) (upgraded, if possible)
No. It only modifies existing tiers, never removes or adds modifiers.
Exclusive to Scourge League mechanics (now available in Standard).
Drops from:
Scourge monsters (best source).
Corrupted Strongboxes (Vaal Orb’d).
Scourge bosses (higher chance).
Extremely rare—much rarer than Tainted Chaos Orbs.
Yes, but it’s risky and expensive. Since the effect is random, you could:
Downgrade a mod (e.g., T1 → T2).
Upgrade it back later (T2 → T1).
No guarantee it will hit the highest roll (e.g., 10% Quantity). Requires multiple attempts, making it costly.
Example (Your Quantity Roll Question):
If you have T1 Quantity (8-10%), using a Tainted Divine Teardrop could. Downgrade to T2 (6-7%) → Then later upgrade back to T1 (8-10%). But it could also stay at T2 or go even lower. No way to control the outcome—pure RNG.
Yes! Essence modifiers are treated like normal mods and can be tier-shifted. Essence of Insanity (T1 Crit Multi) could drop to T2 Crit Multi. It could also go back up to T1 with a better roll.
Your Experience (From Your Update):
You used 8-10 Tainted Divine Teardrops on an item with. Crit Multi (Essence mod) & Quantity.
Results:
Crit went from T1 → T3 → back to T1.
Quantity fluctuated but ended at 18% (T1).
