Path of Exile 3.29 Curse of the Allflame league introduces one of the most creative crafting systems the game has seen in years. Rather than replacing existing currency mechanics, the new Allflame Crafting system, built around Vesper's soul aboard the Sovereign, sits on top of them, letting you preview multiple outcomes of a single crafting step before committing. Alongside it, Legion is receiving a brand-new chase crafting mechanic called Enshrouding Crystals that lets you transfer powerful modifiers between Unique items, and a set of rare Ducats adds specialized twists to the whole system. This guide walks you through every part of the new crafting toolkit so you know exactly what each piece does.
Before getting into specifics, here is a quick overview of what is new on the crafting side of 3.29.
PoE 3.29 New Crafting Guide - Allflame Crafting, Enshrouding Crystals, Ducats & Vestigial Uniques
The core idea behind Allflame Crafting is simple but powerful. You give Vesper an item, a currency you would normally use on that item, and enough Dead Man's Sulphur. He splits that item into multiple ghostly forms, each showing a different possible outcome of that currency application. You then pick the one you like best, and the rest go up in smoke. Legion adds a parallel system through Enshrouding Crystals, which port a signature modifier from one Unique to another. And on top of that, a fresh currency category called Ducats introduces bespoke crafting effects unavailable through any other means. The socket color system has also been overhauled, changing how gear-crafting interacts with your build.
Let's start with the fuel that powers all of this: Dead Man's Sulphur.
Dead Man's Sulphur: The Fuel for Allflame Crafting
Dead Man's Sulphur is the resource that keeps Vesper's flame lit and powers every Allflame craft you perform.
It is gathered from luminous coral growing on corrupted dead in the oceans of Wraeclast during Curse of the Allflame charts and voyages.
Every chart and voyage you run rewards Dead Man's Sulphur, so it is the baseline reward of the league.
Sulphur is fully tradable, meaning you can farm it for others or purchase stacks to fund high-end crafts.
The more potent the craft you attempt, the more Sulphur Vesper will consume to reify the outcome.
With sulphur in stock, you can move on to the actual crafting interaction with Vesper below decks.
How Allflame Crafting Works: Vesper's Ghostly Outcomes
Once you head belowdecks on the Sovereign, you'll find Vesper's soul burning in a contraption of tarnished pipes and corpse-stained glass. This is your new crafting console.
The Basic Loop
Place an item into the interface.
Place a currency you could normally use on that item alongside it.
Provide the required Dead Man's Sulphur.
Vesper splits the item into several ghostly copies, each showing a possible outcome of that currency use.
Pick the outcome you want. The others disappear as Vesper can only reify a single result.
Why This Matters
Almost any crafting step you would normally do can now be previewed. That includes:
Standard exalted orbs and chaos orbs
Influenced exalted orbs, where seeing multiple possible mod additions is enormously valuable
Expensive fossil combinations you want maximum value out of
Nearly any other currency you would apply during a craft
The system covers roughly 95 to 98 percent of currencies. A few are excluded — most notably the Vaal Orb, which was left out for both balance and thematic reasons.
Independent Outcomes
Each ghostly outcome is generated by applying the craft to the original item independently. That means outcomes do not affect one another. In theory, using an Exalted Orb could result in every ghostly copy showing the same mod added — extremely unlikely, but possible. This is intended behavior, not a bug.
To keep this powerful preview system from turning into infinite crafting, GGG introduced the Intangibility mechanic.
The Intangibility System: The Counterbalance
Many Allflame crafts add a value called Intangibility to your item, which is visible on the item and ticks up each time you craft.
How It Functions
Intangibility is a chance that your next Allflame craft on that item produces only one result instead of several.
Effectively, the craft is performed with no ghostly preview bonus.
The more you Allflame craft on one specific base, the harder it becomes to continue crafting on it.
Not every craft raises Intangibility. Lower-level currencies like Alchemy Orbs do not add to it, while higher-value crafts such as Exalted Orbs typically do.
Working Around Intangibility
Several methods let you reset or bypass Intangibility:
Recombination – Transfer the desired mod onto a fresh base that doesn't carry any Intangibility.
Awakener's Orbs – Create an entirely new base as the output, resetting the counter.
Special Ducats – One new Ducat has a 50% chance to remove all Intangibility, and a 50% chance to destroy the item. High risk, high reward.
Beyond regular currency use, Vesper can also consume the new Ducats for effects not available anywhere else in the game.
Ducats: The New Bespoke Currency Line
Ducats are rare currencies obtained from special types of charts during Curse of the Allflame voyages. Each one has a unique, hand-crafted effect when consumed alongside an item.
Kishara's Ducat
Creates four ghostly copies of an item.
Each copy keeps one modifier from the original.
Ideal for isolating a strong mod and creating powerful crafting bases from a mid-tier item.
Genteel's Ducat
Solves item or gem requirement problems by changing one attribute to another.
Works even on hybrid rules that a Vaal Orb would normally respect, you can take a strength-based armor and swap it to dexterity or intelligence.
Does not work on hybrid attribute rolls (like +10 strength and dexterity) or on rolls that grant all attributes.
Perfect gear-lock solver for builds that stumble on stat requirements.
Brinehook's Ducat
Turns you into an emissary of the Gods of Wraeclast, granting divine Aspects with mysterious effects.
The exact behavior of these Aspects has been kept vague on purpose — expect surprises.
Intangibility-Reset Ducat
50% chance to remove all Intangibility from an item, letting you continue Allflame crafting.
50% chance to destroy the item outright. A gambling play, but one that can save a stalled craft.
While Vesper handles item-level crafting, Legion offers a completely separate chase system focused on Uniques.
Legion's Enshrouding Crystals and Vestigial Unique Items
Legion has been given a full crafting identity through Vestigial Unique Items, replacing Incubators as the league's chase reward.
What Enshrouding Crystals Do
Legion Generals in maps have a chance to drop Enshrouding Crystals, a new currency item. Each of the five Legion factions drops its own version — for example, the Maraketh crystal enshrouds body armors, while others cover shields, gloves, helmets, and boots.
The Enshrouding Process
The workflow inside the Domain of Timeless Conflict:
Use an Enshrouding Crystal on the Unique armor you want to transform.
Enter the Domain of Timeless Conflict, where a giant crystal has emerged at the center.
Place the enshrouded item into one of the smaller crystals at the base.
Kill monsters in the Domain to charge the crystal.
Once the charge is complete, the crystal fractures and your item transforms into a new Unique of the same slot with a Vestigial Implicit Modifier carried over from the original.
Example Transformation
Placing a Shaper's Touch into the process might transform it into a Maligaro's Virtuosity — but that Maligaro's now carries a trace of Shaper's Touch in the form of a vestigial implicit.
Rules and Limitations
Only unique armor items work - no jewelry, no weapons.
Corrupted Uniques cannot be enshrouded.
Fatelorn Uniques are also excluded (they operate under different magic rules).
Replica Unique mods can become vestigial mods, and a replica can even transform into its non-replica counterpart, potentially stacking two similar mods.
You cannot create boss-drop-exclusive Uniques through this process. The possible outputs are limited to what an Ancient Orb could roll into.
Mod Selection Behavior
Typically the transferred modifier is the defining mod of the original Unique — the mod players actually care about. For example, Kaom's Heart carries over its life value (scaled down for balance — around 250 life onto a Lightning Coil rather than the full amount). A few Uniques with cycling mods, like Shaper's Touch or The Three Dragons, randomly pick one of their three mods.
Alongside these two big crafting systems, the socket color overhaul reshapes how gear crafting works at every level of the game.
Socket Colors: A Fundamental Rework
After nearly two decades, sockets no longer have colors at the base level. Any colored gem can go into any socket. Colors still exist, but they now work as an upgrade system rather than a restriction.
How Colored Sockets Now Function
Items can still generate with colored sockets, and colored sockets can still be crafted onto items.
Colored sockets are rarer and more powerful than plain sockets.
Placing a matching-color gem into a colored socket grants an additional Quality bonus to that gem.
Colored sockets are purely a positive outcome, they never restrict what you can equip.
Chromatic Orbs Are Different Now
Chromatics now guarantee at least one red, blue, or green socket per use.
They are considerably rarer than before. For example, vendoring a six-socket item with chromatic colors now gives a Chromatic Orb instead of seven Jeweller's Orbs — the chromatic recipe has priority over the jeweller recipe.
Bench crafts for two and three colored sockets still exist.
Quality Values Also Received a Pass
Gem qualities have been reworked to match Path of Exile 2 power levels. In general, 20% quality is now roughly 20% more damage on active skills, so getting the correct colored socket for your main link is more rewarding than before. Support gem quality bonuses are typically smaller, so you can afford to leave a few colored sockets mismatched.
Vaal Orb Behavior
Vaal Orbs still roll socket colors as they did before, but instead of granting white sockets on that outcome, they now grant a random colored socket that ignores the item's attribute requirements. This makes them a targeted way to obtain off-colors on items that would normally be difficult to color.
Unique Interactions
Most Uniques with socket-color interactions still work the same way. A few notable adjustments:
Skin of the Loyal and Skin of the Lords still generate with six colored sockets and are much easier to actually use now.
Tabula Rasa is unchanged — it is still a six-link.
Dialla's Malefaction was reduced from 30% quality to 20% quality per green socket gem, but placing a green gem into a green socket restores the full 30%.
Pariah received a substantial buff.
Triad Grip and The Untouched Soul retain their designs.
Beyond these headline systems, several smaller but useful crafting additions round out the patch.
Additional Crafting Changes Worth Knowing
Two New Chaos Orb Bench Crafts
The crafting bench now includes two Chaos Orb crafts modeled on the PoE 2 chaos behavior:
One craft removes one mod and adds one mod.
The other craft removes three mods and adds three mods.
Both act as extra chaos orb sinks and give you a way to salvage items with strong mods buried in otherwise poor rolls.
Synthesis Implicits Removed From Regular Items
Synthesis modifiers no longer appear as random implicits on rare items. However:
Synthesis Unique items retain their synthesis implicits.
Most of the strong former synthesis implicits have been converted into Vaal corruption outcomes — you can now, for example, corrupt a ring for a +1 Frenzy Charge implicit.
Vaal Orb power has increased notably as a result.
Talismans Are Now Real Crafting Bases
Talismans are exclusive rewards from Bestiary. Every red beast has a chance to drop a specific talisman (for example, the Craicic Croaker drops the Croaker Talisman). Key changes:
Talismans no longer drop Corrupted, so they're far easier to craft on.
Their special modifiers are now enchantments rather than implicits, letting them compete with Blight Anointments and reach much stronger values.
All Talisman Unique items were improved and can drop from any Bestiary boss.
Beast Splitting Is Gone
Beast splitting has been removed because it was almost never used for its original design intent. Duplicating high-value base types was distorting the economy for items like Simplex Amulets. The Fractured Fossil has also been changed, it now fractures the item, matching its name.
Reflecting Mist and the Nameless Seer
These no longer randomly spawn inside maps.
Both now appear in their own Atlas Anomaly areas.
Scrying is now handled by a new tradable Scrying Orb.
Practical Crafting Strategies for 3.29
Putting all of this together, here are a few approaches worth trying when the league begins:
Strategy 1: Use Kishara's Ducat to Isolate a Strong Mod
Find a rare item with one exceptional mod but garbage elsewhere. Use Kishara's Ducat to split it into four ghostly copies each keeping one mod. Pick the copy holding the mod you want, then use it as a fractured-quality base for further Allflame crafting.
Strategy 2: Vestigial Item Chase Farming
Farm Legion maps for Enshrouding Crystals of the slot you want, then feed cheap or mid-tier Uniques into the Domain of Timeless Conflict. Face Breaker + Doryani's Touch is one combination players are already talking about. Lightning Coil with Kaom's Heart life on it is another realistic target.
Strategy 3: Salvage with Chaos Orb Bench Crafts
Save the two new Chaos Orb crafts for items that have one perfect mod and several trash mods. This is a much better use of chaos orbs than mass spamming and gives them meaningful currency demand again.
Strategy 4: Ghost-Preview Your Best Crafts
For expensive fossil combinations, influenced Exalt slams, or any high-value late-step craft — always route it through Vesper first. Even a single Exalted Orb use becomes far safer when you can pick from multiple outcomes. Just watch Intangibility so you don't hit the ceiling before your item is finished.
The 3.29 crafting rework changes how nearly every stage of gear progression feels. Allflame Crafting through Vesper gives you multi-outcome previews for almost any currency, while Intangibility keeps the system from becoming unlimited. Ducats introduce specialized crafting effects, from mod isolation to attribute swapping. Legion's Enshrouding Crystals let you carry signature mods across Unique armor pieces, opening entirely new build combinations. The socket color overhaul removes one of the oldest gear-swap frustrations while turning colored sockets into a chase upgrade. Chaos Orb bench crafts, corrupted synthesis-style implicits, and reworked talismans round the package out.
If you have ever wanted a league where crafting itself is the reason to log in, Curse of the Allflame is that league. When 3.29 launches on July 25th, expect a very different currency market and a lot of new patterns to figure out.
