March 04, 2026 POE POE Builds POE Leagues

With this PoE 3.28 SSF Build Tier List, we update the top league starter builds to play for Solo Self-Found in Mirage League! These builds are strong for both league start leveling and deeper endgame farming!

PoE 3.28 Best SSF Builds for League Starter & Endgame

Path of Exile 3.28 brings some system changes and reworks that affect all players, but they make a notable difference in SSF. The new Mirage League mechanic adds more rewards per map and boosts early-game progression, while changes to Atlas, crafting, and item acquisition adjust the strategies you'll use for upgrades. Some systems now provide more targeted rewards, but there are also some roadblocks for self-farming key items or weapons. This makes efficient build selection even more vital.
Choosing strong SSF builds involves more than slotting into what’s popular, especially with the state of current and past content like tough Tier 17 maps or demanding league mechanics that may feel like chores. The focus is on builds that minimize gear stress, facilitate solo progression, and are enjoyable from acts through to bossing. Here’s a look at a curated selection of builds proven to navigate SSF's hurdles in Mirage league.

1. Righteous Fire (RF) Chieftain

Righteous Fire (RF) Chieftain continues to be an exceptionally stable pick for SSF league start. The latest update gives the build even more fire damage multiplier and improved clear through a stronger Hinakora explosion. RF Chieftain excels at fast mapping, offers simplicity in endgame upgrades, and is forgiving to play - no complex button rotations required.

Thanks to the natural defenses, straightforward gearing (focus on fire resistance and life), and the build's ability to rapidly clear league mechanics like Expedition, it's very easy to farm maps and accumulate currency or gear early. While damage caps out earlier compared to the absolute highest-end builds, the early and midgame comfort makes RF a top pick for both new and experienced SSF players.

2. Kinetic Blast Deadeye

Kinetic Blast (KB) Deadeye remains a fast, efficient league starter that’s very popular, including in Hardcore SSF. Its scaling with item upgrades and recent indirect buffs keep it among the strongest clear speed options in early SSF. The build is ideal for clearing packs, farming currency, and spiraling through map content without feeling sluggish.

Projectile skills like KB work well even with moderate gear, and Deadeye amplifies clear even further. If you prioritize zooming through early and midgame maps, this is a consistent performer. Crafting bows/weapons can be a challenge if you want to branch out, but projectile archetypes generally find workable upgrades throughout progression.

3. Elemental Hit (Bow or Strike Variant)

Elemental Hit continues to deliver as a strong, adaptable skill for SSF. You can play it as a bow-build or as a melee strike (Smite, for example). These archetypes can thrive with moderate gear and can handle just about all content if you know how to manage resistances and elemental conversions.

This build offers early accessibility and a straightforward skill tree. One consideration is endgame weapon crafting, since you can't now use the Genesis system to target craft powerful bows or melee weapons. Nevertheless, the leveling process and early mapping remain efficient, and the gameplay can be tailored to suit melee or ranged preferences. The strike versions (like Smite) are appreciated for double-hit mechanics, while the bow version excels for pure mapping speed.

4. Summon Raging Spirits (SRS) Guardian

This build has remained reliable through multiple leagues and easily deals with both game progression and tougher bosses. Having killed pinnacle bosses with it, it’s clear that SRS Guardian stands out because it doesn’t need rare gear to shine, and minions handle most threats. Its strength comes from being accessible early, with minions scaling well off gem levels and modest crafts, making it a perfect choice for new league starts and still capable in late-game scenarios.

5. Kinetic Fusillade Totem or Self-Cast

Kinetic Fusillade stands out for its damage and mobility. The chain mechanics and Poison/Elemental versions give diverse build paths. Despite the need for some unique items to unlock its full late-game power, the skill works well as a totem-based or self-cast build right from league start.

While chasing certain unique items is always more difficult in SSF, the skill is functional with just a few upgrades. If you opt for totem play, arming speed buffs make the early game even smoother. Kinetic Fuselade’s clear is one of the highest for projectile archetypes in the current patch.

6. Glacial Cascade of the Fissure Elementalist

Glacial Cascade of the Fissure on an Elementalist provides massive damage scaling potential. With only minimal gear, the build can achieve competitive bossing damage. Once basic items are secured (a wand with +cold, a five or six link), Glacial Cascade takes off and is capable of farming difficult content.

This build excels once you’re established but can feel squishy during the campaign or in early mapping until defensive gear is acquired. An advantage is that a solid "midgame" wand is easy to get and lasts for a long time. Players experienced with positioning and dodging will appreciate the late-game payout.

7. Cold Damage over Time (Cold DoT) Occultist

Cold DoT, played as an Occultist, offers reliable mapping, good bossing, and strong survivability. This archetype is easy to level, performs with common gear, and benefits from straightforward crafting. Gear choices are flexible, often just requiring decent life and resistances, allowing progression even before acquiring build-specific uniques.

8. SRS Guardian (Summon Raging Spirits)

SRS Guardian offers one of the comfiest campaign and league starts for SSF. It features potent minion damage, decent defenses, and the ability to push into mapping and moderate bosses with minimal friction.

The build shines for players who want straightforward progression without “gear checks” at each difficulty hike. Damage does plateau earlier than other builds, but for all campaign and early mapping, there's barely a hiccup. There are established guides by leading SSF players, making it easy to pick up and play.

9. Cyclone Shockwave / Static Strike (Two-Handed Staff Melees)

Cyclone Shockwave and Static Strike present options for players interested in fast-hitting, melee experiences. Both benefit from two-handed staff scaling, good clear, and straightforward mechanics. Static Strike, in particular, received direct buffs for this league.

The damage numbers look good and these builds usually dodge major nerfs. The largest hurdle will be obtaining a suitable two-handed weapon now that Genesis/King's March weapon crafts are less reliable. Still, block and leech mechanics offer consistent defenses, and the builds are very approachable for anyone who likes melee.

10. Blight / Contagion Chaos DoTs

The classic Chaos-based Damage over Time (DoT) builds, using Blight and Contagion, are proven and reliable. Their playstyle revolves around area control and proliferating damage to packs at a distance. While you need to farm or trade for the gems early, these skills can handle most content with comfort.

These skills offer smooth clear, and are excellent for farming Breach, Expedition, or Heist content early. The main downside is having to stop and channel, so they may not feel as fluid as something like RF, but if you prefer chaos skills, their clear and damage effectiveness is tried and true.

11. Poison Concoction Pathfinder

For those preferring attack-based gameplay, Poison Concoction Pathfinder is an exceptional league starter and capable endgame performer. The build avoids weapon dependency, which removes a huge gear obstacle in SSF. By leaning into flask interactions and consistent poison scaling, Poison Concoction can deliver high damage and quick clears even on a modest budget.

12. Spark Self-Cast Inquisitor

Spark Self-Cast is another build that’s maintained strong performance for solo players through various leagues. It works off strong base gem scaling and offers great clear speed and bossing with minimal investment. Additionally, Spark’s flexibility supports adaptation to the loot you find, making the early stages less stressful and progression smoother toward endgame mapping.

13. Skeleton Mages Necromancer

For pure summoner play, Skeleton Mages as Necromancer deliver high damage and safe mapping. From the early campaign to Tier 16 and beyond, skeletons are summoned with only gem levels and don’t require powerful gear for the build to function. If you happen to find support gems and minor upgrades, the power curve increases naturally, letting you tackle endgame content without relying on trade.
