Path of Exile 2 Templar Release Date, Weapon, Skills, Ascendancy, and More Leaks

10/14/2025 4:01:01 PM

Fans of holy warrior archetypes may wait for the coming of the Templar class in Path of Exile 2. Before the full release of the game, what is the next new class and when is Templar? This article will provide insights into the PoE 2 Templar class release date, weapon, skills, passive tree, and more content leaks.

Path of Exile 2 Templar Release Date & Next Class Leaks

The Templar class in Path of Exile 2 is highly anticipated by many players. There have been hints suggesting the Templar could appear soon, such as new unique items with Templar-themed flavor text. Some fans hoped the Templar, especially with its classic Paladin-like ascendancy, would be part of the next PoE 2 season update, but this doesn't seem very likely.

When Is Templar Coming to PoE 2?

The Templar class hasn’t been officially given a release date yet. GGG is releasing classes slowly; it took about 8+ months to go from 0.1 to 0.3 with only one class added. The current pace means it might take years for all classes to be released. Both Druid and Templar share a similar starting point on the skill tree and are strength/intelligence hybrid classes. PoE2 Templar is expected to be released sometime after the upcoming Druid class, which is planned for a December 2025 or January 2026 update in Path of Exile 2 0.4 league. This suggests the Templar might arrive within 6 to 12 months from now. Some speculate the Templar will appear alongside or shortly after the Druid, possibly in a major patch later this year or early next year.

PoE2 Templar Appearance & Lore

Unlike the polished, armored holy knights seen in many RPGs, the PoE2 Templar has a rough, exiled aesthetic. Leaked character models depict him as a red-haired man wearing a tattered toga-like garment with a belt, suggesting he was once part of a sacred order but has since been cast out. He still wears an amulet symbolizing his former faith, hinting at a redemption arc or struggle to regain his former status. His design leans into the Path of Exile lore, where characters are often outcasts or survivors rather than pristine heroes.

Many fans love the original PoE 1 Templar for his story and personality. He was a strong, faith-driven character whose belief wavered but ultimately remained firm. Players hope the new Templar in PoE 2 keeps this depth and humanity, acting as a positive example of a religious figure in gaming—distinct from other characters like the Mercenary, who is more cynical about religion.

PoE2 Templar Weapons

The Templar in PoE 2 is expected to use the Flail as its signature weapon, which fits its holy warrior image. A flail is a medieval chain-and-mace weapon. Early gameplay hints suggest Templar may wield a flail in one hand and a shield in the other; he is a defensive yet aggressive melee fighter. In addition, the datamined information indicates that flails have a high critical strike chance.

PoE2 Templar Passive Skill Tree

Leaked passive tree nodes reveal:

  • Strong melee and crit focus near the Warrior’s starting area.

  • Elemental damage clusters (fire, lightning, cold) for hybrid builds.

  • Shield and defensive passives, reinforcing a tanky playstyle.

  • Possible minion synergies, though this remains speculative.

Its skill set is likely to carry over many iconic holy magic skills from Path of Exile 1. This includes the famous Righteous Fire, a skill that burns enemies and the player simultaneously, requiring careful balance of fire resistance and life regeneration. Other potential skills include Smite, Divine Ire, Divine Retribution, Purifying Flame, Zealotry, Consecrated Path, Holy Flame Totem, Herald of Purity, Summon Holy Relic, and Absolution. Some of these offer healing effects, like creating Consecrated Ground where allies can regenerate health.

PoE2 Templar Ascendancy

Templar’s ascendancy classes in the first game—Inquisitor, Hierophant, and Guardian—highlight different playstyles: elemental battlemage, totem caster, and tanky support, respectively. Fans expect these or similar roles to return in PoE 2, emphasizing holy magic, defense, and party support.

The initial Templar leak actually stemmed from a misunderstanding—a forum screenshot showed shuffled character models, leading some to mistake the Witch’s torn clothing for a Templar. However, the real leaked images came from an unofficial artist’s PoE2 concept work, showcasing the Templar in various poses, like walking, fighting, etc. While not officially confirmed, these models align closely with other PoE2 characters.
