Crafting in Path of Exile 2 has reached a new level of control and reward with the 0.3 update. In this PoE 2 0.3 Crafting Guide, we walk you through how to use the latest crafting tools to consistently create top-tier items: deterministic gear, four-mod timeless jewels, grenade crossbows, perfect quivers, and 50% movement speed boots.
Patch 0.3 in Path of Exile 2 introduced a reworked crafting system that allows for precise, deterministic outcomes on nearly any piece of gear. By understanding how the new bones, omens, essences, and the Well of Souls interact, players can now create items that would have once seemed almost impossible outside of trading.
With the Third Edict update, a host of new crafting currencies and mechanics were introduced, including:
Bones (Nod, Preserved, Ancient): These allow the addition of powerful desecrated modifiers to items. Nod bones have a cap of item level 64, preserved bones work on any item level, and ancient bones guarantee a minimum modifier level.
Omens: These influence what kind of modifier is added or removed next—prefixes, suffixes, certain tags, or even rerolling desecrated mod options at the Well of Souls.
Essences: Now always guarantee a specific mod, turning magic items rare and locking in the essence mod.
Well of Souls: The central crafting station for revealing desecrated mods and making use of omens.
To access the Well of Souls, complete Act 1 and part of Act 2 until you reach the Lightless Passage. Defeat Sinflay and you’ll find the Well, which is used to reveal desecrated mods applied with bones.
Crafting guaranteed modifiers on your gear in Path of Exile 2 patch 0.3 is now possible with a methodical approach, using new crafting tools like essences, omens, and the homogenizing exalted orb. The process involves understanding item tags, using the right item bases and item levels, and applying specific currency items that force certain outcomes. With this strategy, you can achieve gear with triple energy shield prefixes and triple resistance suffixes, or other highly targeted mod combinations, with a level of certainty never before possible in Path of Exile.
Step 1: Choose the Right Base and Item Level
Begin by selecting the correct base for your item. For example, when crafting high energy shield gloves, search for siren scale gloves with an item level of 82 or higher. This ensures access to the highest tiers of energy shield and resistance mods. Use tools like Craft of Exile or POE2DB to confirm the item level requirements for your desired mods.
Step 2: Prepare the Base and Add Your First Mod
Ideally, start with a magic or rare version of your base. If you find a white or blue item, use a perfect transmutation orb for your first mod. For gloves, this could mean rolling a flat energy shield prefix. If you want guaranteed mods, use an essence that grants a specific modifier, such as essence of ruin for flat energy shield or chaos resistance. This will result in a rare item with both the targeted prefix and suffix.
Step 3: Understand and Use Mod Tags
Every mod belongs to a tag or family, like “defense” for energy shield or “resistance” for resists. These tags are key for the next steps, as they allow you to control which types of mods are added by certain currency items. Check the tags on your item using Craft of Exile or in-game tools.
Step 4: Use Homogenizing Omen and Exalted Orbs
The homogenizing omen lets your next exalted orb add a mod of the same tag as an existing one on the item. For example, if your gloves have a defense prefix (energy shield) and a chaos resistance suffix, using a homogenizing omen with an exalted orb guarantees that the next mod added will match one of those tags. If there are no possible chaos or resistance prefixes, the orb must add another defense prefix, such as percent energy shield or hybrid energy shield/life.
Step 5: Force Prefixes and Suffixes
To guarantee additional energy shield prefixes, make sure the item already has a defense tag prefix. Use a sinister omen to ensure the exalted orb adds a prefix next, then apply the homogenizing omen for tag matching. For suffixes, after you have one resistance suffix (such as chaos resistance), use homogenizing and greater exalted orbs to guarantee additional elemental resistance suffixes, since there are no chaos resistance suffixes left. This way, you can add cold, fire, or lightning resistance as needed.
Step 6: Use Desecration and Omens for Hybrid Mods
If you need to guarantee a hybrid energy shield mod (flat plus percent), use desecration crafting first to set up the hybrid mod, then use an omen of light to remove any unwanted desecrated mod if needed. This step allows you to fine-tune the prefixes before moving on to suffixes.
Step 7: Reroll or Remove Mods as Needed
If you add an unwanted modifier, use omens like the omen of light to remove it. If you want to reroll for better tiers, the echo of abyssal echoes can let you reroll once when revealing desecrated mods. Repeat this process until you achieve your desired combination.
Step 8: Fill Out the Remaining Mod Slots
Continue slamming with homogenizing omens and exalted orbs, always checking the tags on your item to control what mods can be added. For the highest tiers, use greater or perfect exalted orbs, keeping in mind that perfect orbs are extremely costly.
Step 9: Finalize the Gear
Once you have completed all prefixes and suffixes, you can further enhance the item with quality, sockets, or vaal orbs if desired. This step is optional and best for gear you plan to use for a long time.
Crafting the best-in-slot (BIS) weapons in Path of Exile 2 patch 0.3 is a process that combines game knowledge, currency investment, and efficient use of the new crafting systems. Instead of buying expensive gear, knowing how to create your own godlike equipment can save a lot of currency and let you customize your weapon to perfectly fit your build. The process involves understanding item bases, item level requirements, modifiers, and the use of new orbs, essences, and recombination mechanics. Here is a step-by-step guide to crafting top-tier weapons, such as crossbows, in this patch.
Step 1: Choose the Right Weapon Base
Start by gathering a collection of the desired weapon base. For example, a flexed crossbow is a good base because it features increased bolt speed as its implicit. When picking a base, always check the item level, the higher the item level, the better the possible modifiers. For the highest increased physical damage rolls, aim for an item level 82 crossbow.
Step 2: Research Modifiers
Using sites like POE2DB, search for the best possible modifiers for your weapon. Decide which prefixes and suffixes you want; for example, increased physical damage and increased elemental damage as attack are top priorities for many builds. The power of these buffs is determined by item level.
Step 3: Basic Crafting and Currency Use
Begin by using an orb of transmutation on a white base to make it a magic item, then use an orb of augmentation to add a second modifier. Next, apply a regal orb to make the item rare. This is the most basic crafting approach and can already produce valuable results, especially when lucky with rolls.
Step 4: Use Higher-Tier Orbs
Greater and perfect orbs of transmutation and augmentation give a higher chance for top-tier rolls. Slam these orbs on all your bases to quickly check for high-tier affixes. Keep any items with desirable combinations and set aside the rest.
Step 5: Reforging and Recombination
For bases with okay but not perfect rolls, use the reforging bench, which lets you combine three items of the same type for a new outcome. This can be repeated to clear out weaker items and occasionally hit better results. The recombinator is another powerful tool: combine two items to try and merge their best affixes. This process is more worthwhile when one of the mods is very strong.
Step 6: Essence Crafting
Essences have received a huge rework and now offer guaranteed modifiers. Use lower-tier essences in the campaign, and later upgrade to greater or perfect essences for the best bonuses. For example, essence of haste can grant up to 25% attack speed, while essence of seeking adds critical hit chance. Apply essences to blue items for rare upgrades with guaranteed mods.
Step 7: Using Abyssal Essences and Well of Souls
Find essence of abbis from abyssal pits and use it on your item to remove a random modifier and add a special “mark of abyssal lord” modifier. After this, visit the Well of Souls (in Act 2) to reveal new mod options and select the one that best fits your weapon. Omens can be used for extra control, such as guaranteeing a roll on a desired modifier.
Step 8: Fill Out the Weapon With Exalted Orbs
Once you have a strong base with solid prefixes and suffixes, use exalted orbs (preferably greater exalted orbs) to add more mods. This step is best saved for items with already strong affix combinations, as exalted orbs are expensive.
Step 9: Optimize With Omens and Recombination
Omens obtained from rituals or abyssal depths can help fine-tune your weapon, letting you lock or remove specific prefixes or suffixes before crafting further. For the most valuable weapons, combine the use of omens, greater essences, and recombinator crafting for the highest chance at perfect outcomes.
Step 10: Final Touches and Quality
Once the weapon is finished, consider using vaal orbs for final random upgrades, such as adding sockets or bonus stats. Most of the time, this step is optional and best left for weapons you’re ready to gamble with.
Crafting four-mod timeless jewels is now a high-profit activity, but it has risks at every step:
Obtain Bases: Buy or farm non-Techro undying hate timeless jewels (Techro is the most expensive, but any will work for crafting).
Desecrate Mods: Use preserved cremin to add mods, up to four. Each desecration after the second has a higher chance to destroy the jewel, so expect some losses.
Sell or Continue: After reaching three or four mods, you can sell unrevealed four-mod jewels for profit, as they are in high demand.
Reveal Mods: At the Well of Souls, use an Omen of Abyssal Echoes to reroll for better mod options when revealing each desecrated mod.
Change Base: When you have the desired four mods, use divine orbs to reroll the base type to Techro (or whichever is most valuable). This also rerolls the mod values, so you’ll need to stop when you hit the right base.
Profit: Four-mod Techro timeless jewels can sell for 70-80 divines, reflecting the risk and cost.
The most reliable approach is to desecrate all four mods first, reroll for the base last, and always use omens to maximize your odds at each reveal.
Grenade crossbows can be crafted with nearly deterministic results:
Choose the base: Start with a high item level siege crossbow for the best possible mods.
Isolate the desired mod: Use perfect orb of transmutation to restrict the mod pool, then try to hit the desired prefix or suffix with augmentation or chaos spam.
Apply Essence: Use greater essence of abrasion for guaranteed flat physical damage.
Add a desecrated prefix: Use Omen of Sinestral Necromancy and preserved jawbone to guarantee an Amanamu prefix (such as grenade damage).
Reveal at Well of Souls: Ensure the desired grenade mod is present.
Fill Suffixes: Exalt slam to fill suffixes.
Add Onslaught and +6: Use perfect essence of haste for onslaught on kill, and perfect essence of battle for +6 attack skill levels. If one overwrites the other, just repeat until both are present.
Finalize and Divine: Use divine orbs for the highest rolls.
This method lets you deterministically create a crossbow with flat/percent physical damage, 100% grenade damage, onslaught, and +6 to attack skill levels.
Perfect quivers can be achieved through careful slot control and omens:
Select the base and fracture: Use an ilvl 75+ base and fracture attack speed or +2. Attack speed is best for double crit.
Null until one mod remains, then chaos spam for tier one flat damage.
Add second mod: Exalt once for the second affix.
Target unveil or draw bone: For the next slot, use bones and omens to control the next modifier.
Repeat until desired prefixes/suffixes are present. After this, all further steps are deterministic.
Fill out the quiver: Use omen of greater exaltation and omen of homogenizing exaltation plus a perfect exalt to guarantee double crit on the quiver. Use Dextral Quization and Hysteria to ensure bow damage rolls.
By following this process, you can create a quiver with top-tier attack speed, double crit, and bow damage, at a fraction of the historical cost.
Boots with 50% movement speed and high evasion or other desired stats are now achievable:
Fracture or chaos spam for movement speed: Start with a base that already has movement speed or use recombination if needed.
Chaos spam for T1 deflection: Secure the top-tier evasion roll.
Mark of the Abyss for T1 resistance: Guarantees a high resistance suffix.
Slam prefixes: Use exalts and omens to guarantee desired prefixes.
Essence for movement speed: Use an essence and an omen to only remove prefixes, guaranteeing the movement speed affix is present.
Double Exalt Omen: Use a perfect exalt for double evasion rolls if desired.
Finalize suffixes: Fill out the last suffix with high resistance or rarity as needed.
Each crafting step is controlled using the right omen, essence, and affix slot manipulation, ensuring every mod on the boots is what you want.
