WoW Mop Classic Leveling Guide - How to Level from 1 to 90 in Mists of Pandaria
We level up fast in Mists of Pandaria Classic because it benefits from the streamlined questing introduced during Cataclysm, with tightly packed zones, efficient quest chains, and minimal downtime. Many revamped zones like Eastern Plaguelands, Dragonblight, and Deepholm offer high-density objectives and natural progression paths that reduce travel and increase XP per minute. The Dungeon Finder also plays a major role, enabling players to chain-run high-reward dungeons with minimal setup, especially from level 49 onward. Next, we're going to break down Mists of Pandaria Classic best leveling methods.
Level 1-10
Always level in your race’s starting zone. At these early levels, travel time is extremely inefficient, and the XP gain per minute from completing localized quests is far superior to any other method (including dungeons or cross-zone leveling). Do NOT switch continents or zones for a potentially “faster” area — the time cost outweighs the benefit, especially with no mount at this stage. These levels are extremely fast regardless of race or class. Even with no heirlooms or XP boosts, most characters can reach level 10 in 30–60 minutes depending on class, race, and quest routing.
Alliance
Recommended Zone: Elwynn Forest (Human)
This zone is the fastest starting zone for Alliance due to its dense quest hubs, low travel time, and straightforward progression. Excellent quest flow from Northshire Abbey ➝ Goldshire ➝ Jasperlode Mine ➝ Hogger area.
Other Alliance Zones (Good but Slightly Slower)
Dun Morogh (Dwarf/Gnome)
Teldrassil (Night Elf)
Azuremyst Isle (Draenei)
Shadowglen (Night Elf - Panda path)
Horde
Recommended Zone: Tirisfal Glades (Undead)
Arguably the fastest for Horde due to tight quest hubs around Brill and Silverpine connector quests.
Quick access to strong early items and undead-specific storyline pacing.
Other Horde Zones (Still Good)
Durotar (Orc/Troll)
Mulgore (Tauren)
Eversong Woods (Blood Elf)
Valley of Trials ➝ Sen'jin Village ➝ Razor Hill
Level 10-35
From levels 10 to 35 in Mists of Pandaria Classic, both Horde and Alliance players have access to efficient questing routes, though each faction faces unique strengths and bottlenecks. Horde players will find a smooth and highly optimized leveling experience in Silverpine Forest and Hillsbrad Foothills, with dungeon spamming becoming the most efficient option around levels 30 to 35 due to a lack of strong quest zones. Alliance players, on the other hand, benefit from a clear and connected path through Redridge Mountains, Duskwood, and Northern Stranglethorn, though they too face a slower patch from 30 to 35, where Cape of Stranglethorn or dungeon spam becomes necessary. Overall, both factions should focus on high-density questing zones early on, take advantage of dungeon XP when quest flow weakens, and be prepared to shift zones efficiently to maintain leveling speed.
Horde
Level Range | Zone/Method | Tips |
---|
10–22 | Silverpine Forest | High XP density, but slow start. Hidden quests included. |
22–30 | Hillsbrad Foothills | Super efficient. Avoid Stag Witches & Haunting chain. |
25–30 (Alt) | Stonetalon Mountains | Fun and dense, but isolated. Optional. |
30–35 | Dungeon spam | Best method if bored of questing or lacking good zones. |
32–35 | Hinterlands | Good filler zone. Quest in Revantusk, then transition. |
34+ | Western Plaguelands | Unlocks at 34. Smoothest route after Hinterlands. |
Alliance
Level Range | Zone(s) | Tips |
---|
10–14 | Westfall (if starting in SW) | Just okay. Do minimal quests to move on quickly. |
14–20 | Redridge Mountains | Dense and efficient. Drop after level 19–20. |
10–20 (alt) | Loch Modan | Great for dwarves/gnomes. Bonus XP from documents. |
20–27 | Duskwood | Top-tier zone. Finish all major hubs. |
27–30 | Northern Stranglethorn Vale | Great kill quests. Smooth progression. |
30–34 | Cape of Stranglethorn (if needed) | Clunky zone but necessary for Booty Bay quest. |
30–35 | Dungeon Spam (alternative) | Efficient and fast for skipping bad zones. |
34–35 | Booty Bay (War Mage Arie) | Portal to Western Plaguelands unlocks. |
Level 35-49
From level 35 to 49 in Mists of Pandaria Classic, the optimal leveling path is largely shared between Horde and Alliance, with both factions questing in the Western and Eastern Plaguelands, thanks to their high quest density and streamlined progression introduced in the Cataclysm revamp.
You’ll begin in Western Plaguelands (35–39):
Alliance players get teleported straight to Andorhal, where they follow a linear set of quests before being sent south to Chillwind Camp.
Horde players typically start from The Bulwark in Tirisfal Glades, handling quests around Felstone Field and Dalson’s Farm before heading into Andorhal.
Both sides will eventually converge on The Menders' Stead, a neutral quest hub directing you to Hearthglen and Gahrron’s Withering. While the first half of the zone is efficient, the second half includes slow RP-heavy quests—so most players move on by level 39, especially with heirlooms.
From level 39 to 45+, you move into Eastern Plaguelands:
This zone is widely considered one of the best leveling zones in the game.
Begin at Fiona’s Caravan in the west. You’ll complete quests, ride the caravan to new hubs like Crown Guard Tower, Light’s Hope Chapel, Eastwall Tower, and others, each unlocking high-XP quest chains.
Notable sub-zones like Tyr’s Hand, Plaguewood, and Zul’Mashar are dense with fast, kill-and-collect quests.
With heirlooms, players can reach level 48–49 by clearing the entire zone, and it’s recommended to do so since Eastern Plaguelands is far more efficient than anything that comes afterward.
Level 49-58
At level 49, the dungeon Blackrock Depths: Detention Block enters your dungeon finder pool. The key leveling strategy here is based on grouping with a higher-level player—ideally level 57.
High XP-per-minute efficiency.
Low downtime between pulls.
Simple, fast layout that supports speed clearing.
Why? Because Detention Block is the only dungeon both a level 49 and 57 can queue for together.
If you're able to chain queue with a 57 player, you’ll only get Detention Block repeatedly, which has:
This setup allows you to powerlevel from 49 to 58 extremely quickly, often faster than any quest route or dungeon combination in this level range. Even if you can’t chain queue with a 57, random dungeon finder will still place you in Detention Block frequently, making it your best XP/hour option.
Level 58-68
From level 58 to 68 in Mists of Pandaria Classic, your most efficient leveling path is a hybrid approach that combines questing through Outland's best zones with dungeon spamming as more dungeons unlock. While some dungeons are worthwhile, most experience during this bracket should still come from zone questing, especially early on.
Level | Zone / Activity | Notes |
---|
58–61 | Hellfire Peninsula | Questing only; skip Ramparts spam |
61–64 | Zangarmarsh | Start at Cenarion Refuge, finish east side |
64–67 | Nagrand | Heavy quest stacking + Ring of Blood |
67–68 | Netherstorm | Area 52 questing + spam dungeons |
63–68 | Optional Dungeon Spam | As more dungeons unlock (Sethekk, MT) |
Level 68-80
From level 68 to 80 in Mists of Pandaria Classic, the most efficient leveling strategy in Northrend is a combination of questing in high-density zones like Borean Tundra, Dragonblight, and Zul'Drak, followed by dungeon spam starting around level 73–75 as more worthwhile dungeons enter the pool. You should avoid dungeon spam early (68–72), but lean into it heavily once Wrath's best dungeons unlock. Here's a breakdown:
Level | Zone / Activity | Notes |
---|
68–72 | Borean Tundra | Skip Nexus/Utgarde Keep; full questing |
72–75 | Dragonblight | Quest + start dungeons at 73 |
75–77 | Zul’Drak | Quest core zones + Amphitheater of Anguish |
77–80 | Dungeon Spam | Drak’Tharon, Gundrak, Culling, etc. |
Level 80-85
This path ensures you avoid the most RP-heavy and inefficient content in Cataclysm while maximizing dungeon bonus XP and streamlined quest hubs. With heirlooms or rested XP, many players can even skip some Uldum content entirely and reach 85 mid-dungeon grind.
Level | Activity | Notes |
---|
80–81 | Mount Hyjal | Avoid Vashj’ir; do all Hyjal quests until undercover ones |
81–82 | Mount Hyjal + Dungeons | Do Blackrock Caverns, Vortex Pinnacle, and Stonecore once |
82–83 | Deepholm | Do every quest; fast and linear |
83–84 | Uldum | Ramkahen main hub, avoid Harrison Jones chain |
84–85 | Dungeon spam | Grim Batol, Halls of Origination, Lost City of Tol’vir |
84–85 (optional) | Crucible of Carnage | Group recommended, good XP |
Level 85-90
85–86: Jade Forest
Follow the main quest chain for smooth progression.
Pick up green ilvl 372 gear from faction-specific suppliers (helps new or boosted characters).
Do Temple of the Jade Serpent once for quest XP and loot.
Slay rares for bonus XP, ilvl 384+ gear, and Lesser Charms of Good Fortune.
Loot treasures scattered across the zone for major XP boosts—nearly 20 total between 85–90.
If melee (DK, Warrior, Paladin), grab the BoA hammer treasure for alts.
86–87: Valley of the Four Winds → Krasarang Wilds
Follow breadcrumb quests to Valley.
Farm unlocks, reputation (e.g. The Tillers), cooking, and profession materials.
Only do the dungeon once for rewards.
Transition to Krasarang for additional XP after clearing Valley.
87–88: Kun-Lai Summit
Switch here as soon as you hit 87.
Higher ilvl quest rewards and more rares & treasures than Jade Forest.
Kill rare that drops Crystal of Insanity, a useful consumable with a 50% drop chance.
88–89: Townlong Steppes
Even if you hit 89 early, complete this zone—it unlocks Shadow-Pan reputation, valuable for gear at 90.
Focus on rares for ilvl 440 gear (nearly dungeon quality).
Complete all quests for Lesser Charms and gear progression.
89–90: Dread Wastes
Enter via rope from the wall in Townlong or via quest chain.
Prioritize this zone due to better ilvl quest rewards and access to The Klaxxi faction.
Visit the green gear vendor again—ilvl here scales with level.
Farm level 450 BoA weapons if possible, usable from level 86, and equivalent to dungeon loot.
Finish out with quests + rare farming. Dungeon spam is less efficient during this range.
