A corrupted currency item that randomly adds or removes one socket from corrupted items. Unlike regular Jeweller's Orbs, it works on already-corrupted gear when normal socket manipulation isn't possible.
When used on a corrupted item, there's a 50% chance to add a socket and 50% chance to remove one. The maximum sockets still respects the item's level - you can't get 6 sockets on items below ilvl 50. This makes it particularly useful for modifying endgame corrupted items where normal socketing methods can't be used.
Tainted Jeweller's Orbs drop exclusively from Beyond content. Regular Beyond monsters have a small chance to drop them, while Beyond bosses guarantee multiple random Tainted currency drops including potential Jeweller's Orbs. Key sources include powerful Beyond bosses like Beidat, Ghorr, and K'tash, as well as various demon and pale-type monsters from Beyond encounters.
These orbs are moderately rare among Tainted currencies. While Beyond bosses guarantee some Tainted currency, the specific chance for Jeweller's Orbs isn't officially published. In practice, they're less common than Tainted Chaos Orbs but more common than the rarest Tainted variants.
For socketing corrupted items, the current meta suggests:
First use the crafting bench to guarantee 6 sockets (costs 350 Jeweller's Orbs)
Then use Tainted Orbs of Fusing for linking
The 50/50 add/remove mechanic makes pure Tainted Jeweller's Orb spamming unreliable for reaching 6 sockets, especially considering their rarity. Community testing suggests the odds might be worse than originally thought during Scourge league.
Success Rate Analysis:
While originally believed to be 50/50 in Scourge league, current player experiences suggest potentially worse odds. Some reports indicate only 3 successful socket additions out of 80 attempts on high-quality armor. This could represent either bad RNG or possible stealth nerfs to the success rates.
