The Orb of Conflict is a special currency item in Path of Exile that changes the hidden powers (called implicit modifiers) on your gear. It works only on items that have two special effects from either the Searing Exarch or the Eater of Worlds bosses. When you use this Orb, it will try to make one of these effects stronger while making the other weaker. If an effect gets too weak, it disappears. This Orb is the only way to get the very rare and powerful Tier 5 and Tier 6 versions of these effects, which players call "Exquisite" and "Perfect."
First, make sure your item has both a Searing Exarch and an Eater of Worlds implicit modifier.
Use weaker Eldritch Embers or Ichors to add these modifiers if the item doesn't have them yet.
Try to make one modifier much stronger than the other using Exceptional Eldritch currency to increase your chance of upgrading the weaker one.
Right-click the Orb of Conflict, then left-click your item to apply it.
If you don’t like the result, you can reset it using an imprint you made before applying the Orb.
Keep repeating this process until you get the best modifiers you want.
The Orb of Conflict is pretty rare and mainly drops from The Maven and her invitations. You can also find it in The Maven's Crucible area, which is a special place designed for farming powerful items. The exact chance to get the Orb isn’t officially shared, but it’s known to be uncommon. Farming higher-level maps and completing The Maven's challenges will improve your chances.
Defeat The Maven boss after opening her fight with Maven’s Writ, which you make by collecting Crescent Splinters.
Farm The Maven’s Crucible area, where these Orbs can drop.
You can also buy the Orb from other players or online trading sites if you don’t want to farm.
When you use the Orb of Conflict, it tries to upgrade one modifier but will downgrade the other at the same time. If both modifiers are the same level (like both tier 3), there’s a 50% chance for either one to go up or down. If one modifier is weaker or stronger, the chance changes by about 11% for each tier difference. For example, if one is tier 5 and the other is tier 3, the weaker one has about a 28% chance to go up to tier 6, while the stronger one goes down to tier 2. But if a modifier drops to the lowest tier, it will be removed. To get better chances, try to make the difference between the two modifiers bigger before using the Orb.
