New World January 1.3 Patch Preparation Guide - Top 5 Things To Do Before January Update

1/8/2022 1:17:38 PM

With the January patch notes that have been published recently, we finally have some news about the next major New World update, which means that now is a perfect time to start preparing for the forthcoming update. In this guide, we will share Top 5 things everyone should do as soon as possible.

New World January 1.3 Update Preparation Tips - How to Prepare For Mutations & Umbral Shard Systems

Tip 1. Farm Expertise

Expertise farm has always been a crucial end-game activity but now it will become critically important for multiple reasons. By the way, even if you have already maxed it, there is still something you should do before the January patch:

Gear Downscaling Coming - figure downscaling will finally come into force, the effective gear score at the equipped item is going to be the average between the item's gear score and the expertise level of that particular slot. For example, if you equip a 600 gear score bow but your bow expertise is 550, then the effective gear score will be 575. Therefore, you won't feel any changes after the patch if you manage to max your expertise level beforehand.

New Umbral System - New umbrella system that will allow upgrading 600 gear score items to the new cap which is 625.

Tips To Farm More Expertise

If you haven't really been focused on the expertise farm before, there are three things that you should do to max it:

1) Daily gypsum tasks

Completing them does not only increase your expertise but also allows you to focus on the most important gear slots. Even if your expertise is already maxed, you should still do as many tasks as you can every day. First of all the expertise cap at the moment is 5.90, so you will need to reach 600 after the update; secondly, every gypsum cast that you open after reaching 600 expertise will give you umbral shards that are required for further progress. Keep in mind that after the patch, you will need to upgrade 5 armor, 3 jewelry, and at least 2 weapon slots which is 10 slots in total, and you can only obtain 7 gypsum orbs per day if you complete all daily tasks which is not that hard but require some time. So stockpiling gypsum orbs beforehand will help you a lot.

2) Daily Elite Chest Runs

Elite chests still provide a pretty decent chance to get a random expertise upgrade, therefore make sure to attend as many early chest runs as you possibly can.  Even if you are a solo player, it is still something that you should focus on. All elite zones except the eternal pool can be looted without any help.

3) Expeditions & Arenas

Expeditions are pretty good for expertise farms but they require time to find a decent group, tuning groups and paying fees. Speaking of arenas, they are potentially the fastest possible way now to farm expertise but only for armor and weapon slots. However, we recommend you to focus on them only after completing your daily gypsum tasks and elite chest runs.

Tip 2. Buy Gear ASSP

Geared downscaling will come into force after the January patch, however, it will apply only to items that you buy on the trading post with New World gold or directly from other players after the update. Therefore, if your expertise is not maxed yet, then you should buy everything that you need now because this gear will not be affected by downscaling. As long as the majority of players still have not reached the expertise cap for jewelry, we recommend you to buy it first.

Tip 3. Prepare for Mutations

It's not a secret for anyone that the next patch will bring us the expedition mutations. and this is going to be a very serious challenge for PVE players. At this point in time, players can complete genesis and Lazarus expeditions even in average gear but when it comes to mutations, you won't even stand a chance if you came unprepared especially in the late stages. Therefore if it is something that you plan to do, consider doing the following:

1) Weapons with Bane Perks - Mutations will require to use of all possible damage and defense bonuses that exist in-game, the first thing that you will need is obviously a weapon with corrupted angry earth or ancient bane perk plus another decent perk such as enchanted kin wishes kindly empowered or kindly jacked.  You will need a corrupted weapon too because dynasty expedition will also have a mutation mode with level 66 mobs, there was no high demand for these weapons previously, so make sure to buy them before their price will increase.

2) PvE Armor - The same approach applies to armor, you should definitely take a look at the trading post and buy some PvE armor while it is still relatively cheap, especially if you are a tank or melee player. The best in slot PvE gear should have corrupted angry earth or ancient word perk that comes in combination with resilient perk and onyxes. Having the highest possible damage absorption will allow you to survive because the mobs hit really hard.

3) Combat Trophies - Having a combat trophy in each house that you own is very helpful, so consider buying basic trophies as soon as you can because prices are already increasing dramatically. Lost and beast combat trophies are not very useful, but you will definitely need corrupted angry earth and ancient trophies.

4) Weapon Mastery - Even if you use a weapon with bain perk and combat trophies, still it might not be enough for the later stages of dungeon mutations, simply because the mobs will have a resistance to the damage type of your weapon. For example, ancient mobs take 15 percent less slash damage, but at the same time, they take 20 more strike damage. So by switching from a great axe to a war hammer, you will automatically increase your damage by 35 percent which is a lot. Therefore it is important to be able to adjust and switch to another weapon and in order to do that make sure that you have many weapons with level 20 mastery, we recommend you to start with weapons that can apply rent or weekend debuffs, they're very helpful in usual expeditions and will be mandatory in mutated dungeons.

5) Faction Tokens & Courrpted Fragments - After the January update apart from genesis and lazarus keys, you might also need to craft a dynasty key and a new mutated expedition tuning orb - crafting all these tuning orbs will require a decent amount of corrupted lodestones. In addition to that, you also need to buy chisels in the faction shop for tokens. It will be possible to buy there and mutate the tuning orb 2 for 1 000 gold and 10 000 faction tokens, taking all that into services, it will be definitely a good idea to farm corrupted fragments and faction tokens beforehand.

Tip 4. Spend Winter Tokens

The winter holiday event will be over after the January update, therefore don't forget to spend your winter tokens and buy everything you need. If you don't know what to buy, consider choosing weapons with luck perk and food with attribute bonuses, especially the one that increases the constitution, there is always a high demand for it.

Tip 5.  Pay Housing Taxes Right Before The Patch

The discount for housing taxes was supposed to be removed a long time ago, however, the devs decided to extend it for the holidays, so there is a high chance that the taxes will be back to normal after the forthcoming patch. Therefore, try to pay them as late as you possibly can but before the January update. If you have no intention to pay the full taxes, this will allow you to use the housing functions a little longer.
