david silva was voted city's player of the year for 2016/17. during 2016/17, he played more minutes per game than any other season since he joined the blues. with eight goals, he equalled his second highest tally for the blues and his 45 appearances is his most yet for city.

 

st: harry kane (tottenham hotspur/england) - 85 --> 87

harry kane secured the 2016-17 golden boot in awesome fashion on the final day of the premier league season. thanks to successive hat-tricks and seven goals in two matches, kane ended the epl season on 29 goals.

the everton striker romelu lukaku had another fine season in 2016/17, scoring 25 premier league goals to finish runner-up to tottenham’s harry kane in the race for the golden boot. lukaku is an exceptional talent as he has claimed more goals by the age of 23 than luis suarez, cristiano ronaldo and ibrahimovic deserves recognition.

paul pogba’s first season back at manchester united has been a qualified success. he was usually good, sometimes poor, and occasionally sensational. a total haul of 9 goals and 5 assists doesn’t quite jump off the page. but we have to admit that pogba’s assist total would be significantly higher if the players ahead of him were finishing chances reliably.

 

gk: hugo lloris (tottenham hotspur/france) - 88 --> 88

hugo lloris was exceptional in his fifth season with the club. lloris racked up fifteen clean sheets and was only one shutout shy away from the league leader, chelsea’s thibaut courtois, in this statistic. lloris conceded the least amount of goals of any starting goalkeeper and surrendered twenty-six goals for the entirety of the 2016-17 campaign.

 

st: diego costa (chelsea/spain) - 86 --> 88

diego costa has had yet another phenomenal season leading the line for chelsea in 2016-17. the spain international helped the blues romp home to a second premier league title in three years by smashing in 20 goals last season.

 

st: alexis sánchez (arsenal/chile) - 88 --> 89

sanchez, scored goals in over 60 per cent of his games, but unlike most of his rivals in the golden boot race, sanchez wasn’t an out-and-out scorer, also providing 10 assists for the gunners, a stat which was good enough to sit tenth in the premier league.


gk: thibaut courtois (chelsea/belgium) - 89 --> 89

kept a clean sheet in almost half of his games in season 2016/17, going without a goal against on 16 occasions and making 68 saves across the year. the belgium national team keeper was great in the air, claiming more high threats than any other top-tier shot-stopper.

 

st: sergio agüero (manchester city/argentina) - 89 --> 89

the 29-year-old has been one of the most prolific strikers in the history of the premier league, and the 2016/17 campaign was his most prolific season since joining the club managing to notch 33 goals in all competitions.

 

cam: kevin de bruyne (manchester city/belgium) - 88 --> 89

de bruyne featured in the top few in most of the key attacking midfield categories, topping the premier league in goals assisted with 18, three more than his nearest challenger. he also finished second for most through balls. enjoyed his best season in the premier league, showcasing playmaking skills which at times bordered on sublime.

 

st: zlatan ibrahimović (manchester united/sweden) - 90 --> 90

the towering swede was consistently among coach jose mourinho’s best players this season, netting 17 times to finish seventh overall in the league, with united losing only three times when he was on the field.

 

gk: de gea (manchester united/spain) - 90 --> 90

in the 2016/17 season, david de gea was nothing short of a brick wall for manchester united. of the 35 appearances he made, he recorded 16 wins, 14 draws, and 5 losses. of the many shots he faced, he only conceded one to error.

 

lw: eden hazard (chelsea/belgium) - 89 --> 90

the belgium international enjoyed a welcome return to form in 2016-17, with his efforts helping the blues to restore domestic dominance in england. his contribution to the stamford bridge cause was recognised at the end of the season, as he beat pfa player of the year n’golo kante to the club’s player of the year prize.
