WoW Forever (WoW Classic+) is here, and one of the biggest decisions you'll face before starting your new adventure in Azeroth is which two primary professions to pick up on your main character. Professions in WoW Forever have been reworked heavily from Classic, with hundreds of new recipes, reworked systems, bind-on-pickup gear sets, legacy points, and the brand new camping feature. Our WoW Forever Profession guide covers everything you need to know about picking the right profession combinations for your class, and the rankings for different goals (leveling, gear, gold, PvP)!
WoW Forever Profession Tier List
Best Professions for Each Class
In WoW Forever, you can learn two primary professions at a time, and these come in two categories: gathering and crafting. On top of that, you can also learn all three secondary professions without using any of your primary slots, which means every character can have up to five professions in total.
The three gathering professions are Herbalism, Mining, and Skinning. The six crafting professions are Alchemy, Blacksmithing, Enchanting, Engineering, Leatherworking, and Tailoring. The three secondary professions are Cooking, Fishing, and First Aid.
Professions can now be picked up far earlier than in Classic. Every starting zone has a trainer for Mining, Herbalism, and Skinning, so you can begin leveling a gathering profession at level 1. The next questing hub after your starting area, such as Goldshire for humans, has trainers for most crafting professions. Only a handful of professions still require a trip to a capital city.
You can swap professions later, but doing so wipes all skill progress and recipes for the dropped profession, so your initial choice carries more weight than many new players realize. So now let's figure out which professions you should choose for your class for different purposes:
WoW Forever Professions Tier List (Overall Ranking)
Based on recipe depth, bind-on-pickup gear, gold potential, campfire buffs, and endgame value, here is how the twelve professions stack up.
S-Tier
Engineering: Still the king for PvP and utility, with grenades, bombs, scopes, Tinkers, Satchels, and now sellable easy-throw explosives that extend its reach to non-engineers.
Alchemy: New combat potions, flasks, transmutes, dyes, and throwables make this one of the strongest gold earners and raid-support profession picks. Alchemists feed Blacksmiths (Legionite) and Tailors (dyes).
Tailoring: The only crafting profession that does not need a gathering partner, plus bags, class-specific sets, and bind-on-pickup gear.
Blacksmithing: Bind-on-pickup plate sets, bind-on-pickup weapons, sharpening stones, and shield spikes for Warriors and Paladins.
Leatherworking: Now covers both leather and mail armor, with class-specific bind-on-pickup sets plus armor kits.
A-Tier
Mining: Feeds two crafting professions, strong early-game gold, and the Loadstone melee attack power buff.
Skinning: The easiest gathering profession to level, passive income, and the 2% Crit campfire buff.
Enchanting: Bind-on-pickup wands, staves, Librams, Idols, and endgame enchants, though gated behind recipes from raids.
B-Tier
Herbalism: Mostly feeds Alchemy, but adds the new seed and greenhouse system and the Tauren racial for bonus gathers.
Secondary Professions (all recommended)
First Aid: Bandages plus the new healing potions make it a universal pick.
Fishing: Rare pools, crates, the 8% stats Fish Bowl buff, and food reagents.
Cooking: 5% XP food buffs, campfire kits, and stat food for endgame.
Now that we have a general ranking, here are the best picks class by class.
WoW Forever Best Professions and Combinations for Each Class
Each class has an obvious armor-based combo, plus alternatives for gold, PvP, consumables, or self-sufficiency. Here is the full breakdown.
Best Professions for Warrior (Arms, Fury, Protection)
Best Professions:
Blacksmithing - Crafts bind-on-pickup plate armor and weapons, including the Officer set (agility, stamina, strength) for DPS and defense-rating pieces for Protection. Also makes sharpening stones, weight stones, weapon chains, shield spikes, and skeleton keys that boost your damage and utility throughout leveling.
Mining - The natural partner for Blacksmithing. Keeps your crafting costs down and the Loadstone buff adds melee attack power at camps.
Engineering - Fills the gap Warriors naturally have in utility. Grenades, bombs, Tinkers, movement gadgets, and snare breakers give Warriors tools they don't normally have access to in PvP or PvE.
Best Combos:
Overall: Blacksmithing + Mining - The textbook pick. You craft your own plate armor and weapons, keep leveling smooth with sharpening stones, and feed yourself the ore you need without having to buy expensive mats from the auction house.
PvP: Mining + Engineering - If you live in battlegrounds, Engineering throwables, Tinkers, and gadgets outvalue crafted gear. Mining stays as the feeder.
Gold: Skinning + Mining - Pure double-gather to afford your level 40 and 60 mounts, then swap one slot for Blacksmithing or Engineering at endgame.
Hybrid: Mining + Blacksmithing early, swap to Engineering at 60 - Level with the crafting combo for a smooth journey, then drop Blacksmithing for Engineering once you have your core gear.
Best Professions for Paladin (Holy, Protection, Retribution)
Best Professions:
Blacksmithing - Crafts the Justicar plate set, which adds strength, stamina, and increased magical damage and healing, perfect for the hybrid nature of Paladins. Bind-on-pickup weapons and plate pieces are a strong foundation for Retribution and Protection.
Mining - The feeder for Blacksmithing. Loadstone overlaps with Blessing of Might, but Mining is still correct for the crafting support.
Enchanting - Makes bind-on-pickup Librams, including one that reduces the cast time of your next Holy Light after Holy Shock by 0.2 seconds. If more Librams end up bind-on-pickup in Enchanting at endgame, this becomes a top-tier Holy pick.
Best Combos:
Overall: Blacksmithing + Mining - Craft your plate, your weapons, and your sharpening stones. The Justicar set works for every spec, and bind-on-pickup weapons give Retribution a real power boost.
Holy Endgame: Mining + Enchanting - If late-game Librams are tied to Enchanting, Holy Paladins will want this combo. Mining still supplies gold and bar sales.
Hybrid Plan: Level with Blacksmithing + Mining, drop Mining for Enchanting at 60 - Level smoothly with the standard combo, then pivot to Enchanting once Librams become the priority at endgame.
Gold: Skinning + Mining - If gold is the only target, double-gather and swap later.
Best Professions for Hunter (Beast Mastery, Marksmanship, Survival)
Best Professions:
Leatherworking - Covers both leather and mail armor, which matches a Hunter's progression from leather to mail at level 40. Crafts the Warden set (agility, strength, armor, stamina), plus hunter-specific quivers and ammo pouches that increase ranged attack speed. Armor kits with +attack power on chest, legs, hands, and feet add massive DPS.
Engineering - Scopes that add crit to bows, guns, and crossbows, new ammunition, trinkets, grenades, and bombs that fill rotation gaps. Hunters benefit from Engineering more than almost any other class.
Skinning - The natural feeder for Leatherworking. Passive income from mobs you were already killing, plus the 2% Crit buff from the Camp Chair.
Mining - The feeder for Engineering if you prioritize ranged weapon tech over crafted armor.
Best Combos:
Overall: Skinning + Leatherworking - Craft your own leather and mail sets, make your own quiver, slap +attack power armor kits on four slots, and skin passively as you kill beasts.
Ranged DPS and PvP: Mining + Engineering - Scopes, custom ammo, and the full Engineering PvP toolkit put Hunters at the top of ranged damage. Arguably the strongest Hunter combo for serious players.
Gold: Skinning + Mining - Hunters pull mobs fast with pet tanking, so double-gather works well. Sell everything and reassess at 60.
Consumables: Herbalism + Alchemy - A quieter option if you want to supply your own potions and make raid gold, but you lose crafted armor.
Best Professions for Rogue (Assassination, Combat, Subtlety)
Best Professions:
Leatherworking - Crafts bind-on-pickup leather sets with agility and attack power. Armor kits add +attack power to four gear slots, which stacks nicely with Rogue burst.
Skinning - Rogues already stealth past mobs they don't need to kill, but when you do kill something, skinning is free income and the 2% Crit buff feeds directly into Rogue damage.
Engineering - Gadgets, grenades, Tinkers, and the Emergency Field Cloak trinket pair exceptionally well with Rogue burst windows and escape tools.
Mining - Feeder for Engineering.
Best Combos:
Overall: Skinning + Leatherworking - Low-effort gathering, crafted leather sets, and armor kits that boost attack power. The default pick for most leveling Rogues.
PvP: Mining + Engineering - Rogues become even scarier with grenade stuns, net launchers, Tinker speed boosts, and backup burst from bombs. Combines beautifully with cheap shot openers.
Gold at Launch: Mining + Herbalism - Many Rogue players level double-gather for easy gold, then swap Herbalism for Engineering around level 60.
Consumables: Herbalism + Alchemy - Perfect for Rogues who want to supply their own thistle tea, swiftness potions, and the new combat potion line.
Best Professions for Shaman (Elemental, Enhancement, Restoration)
Best Professions:
Leatherworking - Starts with leather pieces and progresses into mail. Crafts the Shaman-specific set that combines strength with increased magical damage, perfect for Enhancement's melee-plus-spell playstyle. The Wisdom set works for Restoration.
Skinning - Natural feeder for Leatherworking and provides the 2% Crit campfire buff for Elemental.
Enchanting - Makes bind-on-pickup Totems for the Shaman's relic slot (like +1% crit chance to Lightning) and bind-on-pickup staves for Elemental and Restoration casters.
Mining - A viable alternative if you lean toward Engineering or want to sell ore.
Best Combos:
Overall: Skinning + Leatherworking - The default armor combo that covers all three specs. The Shaman-specific set is especially strong for Enhancement.
Elemental/Restoration Caster: Skinning + Enchanting - Enchanting's bind-on-pickup staves and Totem relics give casters a real power edge. Skinning stays as a low-effort gold source.
PvP: Mining + Engineering - Shamans benefit from gadgets, Tinkers, and the burst Engineering adds to their already-strong toolkit.
Consumables: Herbalism + Alchemy - Restoration Shamans supplying their own mana potions and healing-support consumables, with strong gold potential at raid launch.
Best Professions for Druid (Balance, Feral, Restoration)
Best Professions:
Leatherworking - Covers all three Druid specs with class-specific leather sets and armor kits that work for cat form damage, bear tanking, or caster forms.
Skinning - The natural partner. Druids skin in Cat Form smoothly thanks to form flexibility.
Herbalism - Uniquely strong on Druids because they can gather in Cat Form and Travel Form without shapeshifting out of their speed buffs. No other class gathers this efficiently.
Alchemy - Pairs with Herbalism for self-sufficiency across all specs. Resto Druids love supplying their own mana potions, Balance loves the new Spell Blasting potion.
Enchanting - Makes bind-on-pickup Idols, including one that extends Rip by 2 seconds for Feral cats. Multiple spec-specific Idols exist.
Best Combos:
Overall: Skinning + Leatherworking - Crafted leather sets for every spec, armor kits for extra attack power or spell power, and simple gathering.
Druid-Signature Combo: Herbalism + Alchemy - Gathering in forms makes this smoother on Druids than on anyone else. You produce potions, flasks, and dyes for raid demand and the Incense Candle gives Balance Druids extra intellect at camps.
Feral/Balance Endgame: Skinning + Enchanting - If spec-specific Idols turn out to be best-in-slot, this becomes the top choice. The Rip Idol is already proven strong.
PvP: Mining + Engineering - Druids can now use throwable consumables in forms, which makes Engineering viable on cat kiting builds and Feral PvP.
Best Professions for Mage (Arcane, Fire, Frost)
Best Professions:
Tailoring - Crafts the Pearly set for Arcane, Silky set for Frost, and Flame set for Fire, all bind-on-pickup with intellect and spec-matched spell damage. Makes bags that sell like crazy at launch, and the Faction Banner adds Spirit at camps.
Enchanting - Bind-on-pickup staves with huge spell power and intellect, bind-on-pickup wands, and strong weapon and necklace enchants. Pairs with Tailoring because you can disenchant greens you craft.
Engineering - Still a strong PvP option for Mages who want extra burst, nets, and Tinker speed boosts beyond Blink.
Skinning - A simple gold option that works because Mages AoE large groups and can skin them all at once.
Best Combos:
Overall: Tailoring + Enchanting - The classic caster combo. Craft your own gear sets, your own staves, enchant everything yourself, and disenchant leftover items for mats. Both professions synergize because tailored greens disenchant into enchanting mats.
PvP: Tailoring + Engineering - Keep the bind-on-pickup Tailoring gear for raw spell power, swap Enchanting for the full Engineering gadget toolkit.
Gold: Tailoring + Skinning - Bags from Tailoring sell massive gold at launch, and Skinning adds passive income from AoE pulls.
Bonus: Mages have access to Comprehension, a Mage-only third profession that doesn't take a slot. It decodes mystery scrolls into one-time-use buffs like fire damage on your staff or extra intellect.
Best Professions for Warlock (Affliction, Demonology, Destruction)
Best Professions:
Tailoring - Crafts the Flame set for Destruction and the Shadow set for Affliction and Demonology, both bind-on-pickup with spec-matched spell damage. Also makes bags for huge launch gold.
Enchanting - Bind-on-pickup staves and wands, spell power weapon enchants, and the ability to disenchant tailored greens for mats.
Engineering - A strong PvP alternative with gadgets, Tinkers, and bombs.
Skinning - Easy gold option that works well because Warlocks AoE farm with Hellfire and Rain of Fire.
Best Combos:
Overall: Tailoring + Enchanting - The strongest caster combo for self-sufficient Warlocks. Craft your Shadow or Flame set, make your own staff, enchant everything, and disenchant leftovers for mats.
PvP: Tailoring + Engineering - Fear plus a thrown bomb or a Tinker net is a brutal combination.
Gold: Tailoring + Skinning - Bags plus leather from AoE grinding give Warlocks one of the strongest gold-making combos.
Consumables: Herbalism + Alchemy - Warlocks juggle health and mana constantly, so supplying your own healthstones backup potions pays off, though you lose crafted gear.
Best Professions for Priest (Discipline, Holy, Shadow)
Best Professions:
Tailoring - Crafts the Pristine set for Holy and Discipline (which boosts both healing and spell damage), and the Shadow set for Shadow Priests. Both are bind-on-pickup and spec-specific.
Enchanting - Bind-on-pickup healing staves, bind-on-pickup wands, and spell power or healing enchants for every gear slot. Pairs with Tailoring for the disenchant pipeline.
Herbalism - Great if you prefer self-sufficiency and want to feed yourself consumables.
Alchemy - Pairs with Herbalism for mana potions and the new Mending combat potion that boosts spell healing.
Best Combos:
Overall: Tailoring + Enchanting - The strongest Priest combo. Craft your Pristine or Shadow set, make your own healing staff, and enchant every slot yourself. The Faction Banner's Spirit buff overlaps with Divine Spirit, but the gear value alone justifies the pairing.
Healer Consumables: Herbalism + Alchemy - Keep yourself swimming in mana potions and Mending potions, with huge gold potential once raids open on December 9.
PvP: Tailoring + Engineering - Shadow Priests gain a lot from Engineering gadgets, bombs, and Tinker trinkets that extend their utility beyond Psychic Scream.
Gold: Tailoring + Skinning - Bags plus skinning after shadow AoE pulls make for a profitable early-game combo.
WoW Forever Best Professions Ranking for Leveling
If your goal is a faster, smoother leveling journey from 1 to 60, these professions provide the most benefit along the way.
Skinning - The easiest profession to level because you skin mobs you already killed. No detours required, and the 2% Crit buff from the Camp Chair applies to almost every class.
Mining - Ore nodes are plentiful in starting zones on the beta, feeding both Blacksmithing and Engineering while providing solid gold on the side.
Blacksmithing - Sharpening stones and weight stones add immediate weapon damage, plus level-appropriate plate sets keep Warriors and Paladins stronger than quest-geared peers.
Leatherworking - Armor kits add +attack power or +spell power to four gear slots, plus leveling leather and mail sets for Hunters, Rogues, Druids, and Shamans.
Tailoring - Craft your own cloth sets, bags for yourself and leveling partners, and bind-on-pickup gear that outclasses most quest rewards.
Herbalism - Steady income, feeds your own Alchemy, and gives Druids a huge advantage thanks to form-based gathering.
Alchemy - Buff potions, healing potions, and the new combat potion line make solo content noticeably easier.
Enchanting - Self-enchant everything you craft, though leveling it is slower and more expensive than other options.
First Aid (secondary) - Bandages plus the new healing potion recipes are essential for every class, especially Warriors, Rogues, and Hunters.
Cooking (secondary) - The 5% XP food bonus adds up across a full leveling run.
Engineering - Fun but expensive to level, so most players save it for level 60 unless they have an alt supplying mats.
WoW Forever Best Professions Ranking for Gold
If gold is your priority, especially for your level 40 and level 60 mounts and raid consumables, here is the ranking.
Tailoring - Bags are in massive demand at launch because everyone wants their bag space sorted immediately, and Tailoring doesn't require a gathering partner so you can double up on gold earners.
Mining - Ore and bars sell constantly to Blacksmiths, Engineers, and Enchanters who need rods. Arcane Crystals from Thorium nodes have always sold for premium prices.
Alchemy - Once raids open on December 9, flasks, elixirs, and the new combat potions will sell nonstop. Alchemists also feed Blacksmiths (via Legionite transmutes) and Tailors (via dyes), earning gold from other professions.
Skinning - Low-effort steady income from leather sales or vendoring. Perfect as a secondary gold source alongside any crafting profession.
Herbalism - Herb prices spike when Alchemy demand picks up at raid launch, and the new seed and greenhouse system may introduce rare herbs with premium prices.
Enchanting - Disenchant quest rewards and dungeon drops you don't need to sell dust and shards. Rare raid-recipe enchants earn big tips in cities.
Blacksmithing - Sell bind-on-equip plate pieces, sharpening stones, weight stones, skeleton keys, and enchanting rods.
Leatherworking - Armor kits are consumable and always in demand, plus bind-on-equip pieces for leveling players.
Engineering - With new sellable easy-throw explosives and Tinkers, this now earns gold from the massive PvP population too.
The strongest double-gather starter is Skinning + Mining or Skinning + Herbalism, selling everything to fund your mounts, then swapping one slot for a crafting profession later. BTW, if you have no much on grinding, welcome to buy cheap WoW Forever gold at AOEAH.COM with coupon "AAA"!
WoW Forever Best Professions Ranking for Gear and Power
If your goal is to craft your own best-in-slot and pre-raid gear, bind-on-pickup items are the deciding factor because those pieces cannot be bought or traded.
Blacksmithing - Plate bind-on-pickup sets (Justicar for hybrid Paladins, Officer for Warrior DPS, tank sets with defense rating), plus bind-on-pickup weapons with attack power, hit, and strength bonuses. For plate wearers, this is non-negotiable if you want full crafted power.
Tailoring - Full spec-specific cloth sets (Pearly, Silky, Flame, Shadow, Pristine) and bind-on-pickup leg and chest pieces that match caster specs exactly.
Leatherworking - Spec-specific leather and mail sets like the Wisdom set (intellect, mana, healing), the Warden set (agility, strength, armor), and the Shaman-specific hybrid set. Armor kits apply to four slots.
Enchanting - Bind-on-pickup wands and staves for casters, Librams for Paladins, Idols for Druids, and Totems for Shamans. Plus the endgame enchants everyone needs.
Alchemy - Transmutes feed Legionite (used in high-end Blacksmithing gear), and the philosopher's stone turns Thorium bars and Arcane Crystals into Arcanite bars for weapons like Arcanite Reaper.
Engineering - Trinkets like the Emergency Field Cloak, bind-on-pickup goggles with class-matched stats, and Tinker slot items that fill class toolkit gaps.
For raw character power, taking the armor crafting profession matched to your class is the safest route because you cannot buy those pieces from anyone else. Data-mined recipes also suggest some tier gear in WoW Forever may be craftable with a unique-equipped restriction, which could serve as bad-luck protection for players who get most of their tier pieces but not the final slot.
WoW Forever Best Professions Ranking for PvP
PvP demands utility, burst, and survivability that only certain professions can provide. Here is how they rank for battlegrounds, world PvP, and arena-style play.
Engineering - The undisputed PvP profession. Grenades, bombs, nets, shrink rays, Tinker belt items, mind control helmets, personal shields, movement gadgets, and Satchels in the thrown slot. The level 30 PvP tournament showed most damage coming from Engineering throwables and mortars. Gnomes get an extra specialization that reduces failure chance.
Alchemy - Free Action Potion remains a game-changer, protection potions block damage schools, and the new throwable Smog and Dragonfire potions plus combat potions like Frenzy and Spell Blasting all swing fights.
Mining - The required feeder for Engineering, plus the Loadstone melee attack power buff.
Tailoring - Cloth casters get bind-on-pickup gear sets with huge spell power that non-tailors cannot match. Shadow Priests, Fire Mages, and Destruction Warlocks become burst machines.
Blacksmithing - Weapon chains prevent disarms, shield spikes punish melee attackers, and bind-on-pickup plate weapons give Warriors and Paladins extra damage.
Enchanting - Weapon enchants like Crusader and endgame spell power enchants provide a flat power edge in every match.
First Aid (secondary) - Bandaging mid-fight is a staple PvP survival tool, and the new healing potion recipes extend your sustain beyond Alchemy.
Leatherworking - Armor kits with +attack power or +spell power are solid for melee and casters alike, and bind-on-pickup PvP sets round out the kit.
For a dedicated PvP main, Mining + Engineering is the top combo for Warriors, Rogues, Hunters, and Shamans. Cloth casters should pair Tailoring + Engineering instead of the usual Tailoring + Enchanting pairing.
Special Features of Professions in WoW Forever
Professions feel completely different in WoW Forever compared to older versions of the game. Several new systems layered on top of the Classic foundation give crafting and gathering real depth and real power.
Hundreds of New Recipes - Almost every recipe now has useful stats on it. For example, the copper chain belt made early in Blacksmithing had no stats in vanilla, but in WoW Forever it grants +1 Stamina. The runed copper belt gives +2 Stamina and +3 Strength at level 13. Every crafting profession now also offers spec-specific gear sets while leveling, such as the Pearly set (Arcane), Silky set (Frost), Flame set (Fire), Shadow set, and Pristine set (Healing) in Tailoring, plus Justicar and Officer sets in Blacksmithing.
Bind-on-Pickup Crafted Gear - Many of the most powerful crafted items in WoW Forever are bind-on-pickup, meaning only the crafter can equip them. This includes spec-specific sets, strong weapons, staves from Enchanting, Librams, and Idols. If a piece is tied to your profession, you cannot buy it from the auction house or get it from a friend.
Account-Wide Legacy Points - Each of the six primary crafting professions awards a legacy point the first time you hit skill 150, 225, and 300. Gathering and secondary professions do not grant these points, which gives crafting an extra long-term benefit.
The Camping System - Every profession adds something useful to a shared campsite. Campfire buffs include +Intellect from Herbalism, +Melee Attack Power from Mining, +2% Crit from Skinning, +Spirit from Tailoring, +Stamina from First Aid, and an 8% stats buff from Fishing's Fish Bowl. These buffs share a one-hour cooldown, so you can only place one feature yourself. Many of these buffs also overlap with class buffs like Blessing of Might, Blessing of Wisdom, Arcane Intellect, Mark of the Wild, Moonkin Aura, Strength of Earth Totem, and Divine Spirit, so they do not stack.
Reworked Secondary Professions - Cooking recipes now provide a 5% experience bonus from killing enemies alongside stat buffs. First Aid can now make healing potions, poultices, tourniquets, and disease remedies without needing Alchemy. Fishing can pull up crates, rare items, and even epic gear with a slim chance.
New Potion and Gadget Lines in Alchemy and Engineering - Alchemy has new combat potions like Mending (spell healing), Spell Blasting (spell damage), and Frenzy (attack power), plus throwable potions like Dragonfire Potion and Smog Potion. Engineering now has easy-throw and safety versions of explosives that non-engineers can buy and use, plus new Tinker belt items and equippable Satchels in the thrown slot.
WoW Forever's profession rework rewards players who think about more than just raw gold. Bind-on-pickup gear, legacy points, campfire buffs, and the depth of new recipes all mean your two primary slots carry more weight than ever before. For most players, the safe path is matching your class armor type to its natural crafting pair and feeding it with the matching gathering profession. Pick the pair that fits what you actually want to do, not what a tier list tells you is the strongest. See you in Azeroth on launch day.
