PoE 2 0.5.5 Expedition Farm: Tablets, Rumors, Logbooks, Atlas, Map Strategy

The Forbidden Rites Event League has arrived with Path of Exile 2 patch 0.5.5, and one of the biggest winners from this update is Expedition. Grand Expedition farming has quietly become one of the top league-start money routes, capable of producing 100+ raw divines inside the first 12-24 hours of play with a decent character and some patience. This guide walks through every layer of the strategy: what changed in 0.5.5, how to set up your Atlas tree, which tablets and waystones to buy, how to read rumors for logbook drops, how to path through Grand Expeditions for maximum returns, and which layouts to chase or avoid.

PoE 2 0.5.5 Expedition Farm Guide

Expedition is built around runic remnants, the diamond-shaped stones on the map that offer a reward in exchange for killing monsters buffed by runes. In the ocean biome you find two kinds of maps: standard maps with a guaranteed normal expedition (used to farm logbooks), and Grand Expeditions marked with a swirl icon, which are giant remnant chains where most of the profit lives. Your goal as an Expedition farmer is to run fast, cheap normal maps to sustain logbooks, then convert those logbooks into juiced Grand Expeditions.

With the 0.5.5 changes reshaping how Alder's Saga scaling works and adding brand new Expedition Tablets, the meta has shifted enough that most old routines need adjusting. Before jumping into setup, here is what actually changed in the patch.

Changes to Expedition in Path of Exile 2 0.5.5

Expeditions Available From Act 4 Onward

Players can now encounter Expeditions starting in Act 4 during the campaign, giving earlier access to logbook drops and Perfect Flux income.

Multiple Encounters in a Single Zone

Zones can now roll multiple Remnant and Expedition encounters at once, stacking rewards per map when the modifiers line up correctly.

Alder's Saga Folded Into Logbooks

Alder's Saga no longer exists as a standalone consumable. The powerful modifiers it used to grant, such as Viridian Remnants having 6+ modifiers, can now spawn naturally on regular Grand Expeditions from logbooks. This kills the old Moor of the Fallen Skies hunting routine but means every logbook now carries a real chance at hitting a jackpot Grand Expedition without needing a separate saga item.

New Expedition Tablets

A brand new tablet type was added to the game. Expedition Tablets roll modifiers that mimic what Alder's Saga used to provide, letting you juice Expedition scaling through tablet investment instead of consumables. Two Expeditions can now spawn in a single area, plus standalone Remnant encounters, and modifier options include double explosives, extra remnants, and increased runic monster count.

Tablet Drop Rates Are Very Low

Early data on Expedition Tablets shows drops are extremely rare. Trade listings sit at roughly 700 Expedition Tablets versus 10,000+ Ritual and Abyss tablets, which pushes uncrafted prices above one divine each. This makes tablet sustain a real concern for anyone building a long-term Expedition farm.

Liquid Verisium for Remnant Rerolls

A new consumable called Liquid Verisium is sold by Farrow for 600 Verisium and lets you reroll any remnant into a random new one. This item is extremely strong and reshapes optimal routing.

PoE 2 0.5.5 Best Expedition Farm Setup Guide

With those changes covered, let's move into the actual farming setup.

Expedition Atlas Tree

Do not run any expensive Expedition strategy without fully specced Atlas passives. Most tree options are minor, but a few nodes carry real weight.

Biome selection. Pick Desert. This choice gives monster effectiveness plus additional rare modifiers, which multiplies loot output from every runic mob you kill.

Mandatory nodes:

  • Additional Remnant per Expedition

  • 25% Power Rune chance

  • Extra Runic Modifiers

  • Additional Explosives if available on your path

Skip nodes:

  • Any high seeding to Hives node

  • Small gold-find passives that path away from Expedition scaling

Atlas Master. Take Jaydo (also known as Jado) with Unexpected Missions, Eastern Knowledge, Partial Translations, and Keen Appraisal. All four are required for full Expedition scaling.

Tablet Setup

Only irradiated tablets work on Grand Expeditions, and the modifier priority is clear.

Top modifier: +2 random map modifiers. This mod adds difficulty but multiplies rewards heavily.

Strong secondary mods:

  • Monster effectiveness

  • Increased rare monsters

  • Item Rarity

  • Magic Monsters (usually free on cheap rolls)

Price ranges:

  • Budget setup: cheap 15-25 exalt irradiated tablets with any decent secondary

  • Mid-tier setup: 6-8 divines per tablet for +2 modifier plus one good secondary

  • Jackpot fishing setup: 20 divines each for triple-stat tablets

Waystone Rolls

For Grand Expeditions, waystones scale rewards multiplicatively with three stats.

Budget waystones: minimum 20% item rarity, 30% monster rarity, 30% monster effectiveness. Buy for a few exalts each.

Mid-tier waystones (for juiced maps): 30/40/40 rolls, roughly 2-3 divines each.

High-slot Grand Expedition waystones (7+ slot remnant maps): 30/40/50 rolls, up to 6 divines each. These maps return enough to justify the spend.

Reading Rumors and Farming Logbooks

Rumors are the small snippets you see on the logbook interface. Each rumor points to a specific area type, and you want your logbook to spawn as many Grand Expedition areas as possible.

Rumor toggling trick - As you toggle certain consumables on and off in your inventory, rumors can cycle through, since a logbook area often contains more than three hidden rumors. Take advantage of this to find better rumor combinations before committing.

Minimum Grand Expedition count - Only commit heavy investment into a logbook run if you see at least four Grand Expedition rumors. Anything less is a budget run.

Fallen Stars rumor and Moor of the Fallen Skies - This rumor spawns a unique Grand Expedition where clearing all remnants lets the central one produce any 7-slot item. Perfect Flux drops are common here. Using a Vision of Paradise on this map doubles it.

Anatomy of a Remnant

Every remnant has three parts, and knowing them is required for smart pathing.

Instant Reward. Shown on the remnant itself. Ranges from a few exalts up to a mirror. Prioritize remnants worth 3+ divines in high-investment runs, or 1+ divine in budget runs.

Runes. Each rune buffs monsters in that remnant with damage, health, and loot. More rune slots means more mods, tankier mobs, and better drops.

Propagation. Runes with a yellow border are inherited by every following remnant. Early propagating runes are the single most impactful thing in the run.

Which Runes to Prioritize

Opulent (gold rune) - The top propagating rune in the game. Adds rarity to all monsters and tankiness. An early Opulent propagation makes most 6+ slot remnants down the line drop at least one raw divine on their own.

Power Rune (purple) - Applies multiplicatively to all other runes. Early Opulent plus early Power turns every 6+ slot remnant into a 3+ raw divine drop machine.

Purple runes in general - Most add strong loot bonuses. Some spawn annoying waves of minions, but they are worth passing down the line if your build can handle it.

Blue runes - Weak, just adds standard rare monster modifiers. Do not prioritize.

Chest Priorities

Grand Expeditions also contain chests marked by icon.

  • Bright yellow currency chests drop a divine roughly 40% of the time and are worth chasing on fast strategies. On day one or two of the league, they alone can produce 20+ raw divines per session.

  • Bright yellow equipment chests always drop an exceptional item, so on ilvl 81 or 82 maps they hand out valuable bases.

  • Faded chests are lower priority. Skip them unless they are directly on your path.

Chest priority applies mainly to fast strategies. Slower, high-juice runs should focus almost entirely on remnants.

Pathing Strategy

Good pathing can more than double your rewards, so this section matters.

  • Early remnants - Care about the propagating rune, not the reward. Hunt for early Opulent or Power runes even if the remnant reward is small.

  • Middle remnants - Both propagation and reward start mattering here. Every remnant adds 50% increased monster rarity to the ones down the line, so hit anything that does not cost heavy pathing time.

  • Late remnants - Only care about slot count. High-slot late remnants inherit every propagated buff and spawn insanely juiced mob waves. These are where the raw currency piles up.

Liquid Verisium Reroll Strategy

Verisium turns bad remnants into new random ones. Use it aggressively.

  • Reroll every bad 3-slot or 4-slot remnant (except the guaranteed 1 divine 4-slot).

  • Reroll most 5-slot remnants.

  • Reroll bad 6-slot remnants.

  • On maps with "remnants have minimum 5/6/7/8/9 rune slots," Liquid Verisium respects the minimum, so you can safely reroll anything worth less than 3 divines even at 7 minimum slots.

Budget Grand Expedition Strategy

For players with limited currency or who want fast turnover, this route runs cheap and clears fast.

  • Cheap 20/30/30 waystones

  • Budget item rarity tablets with monster effectiveness

  • Path hits: early Opulent/Power runes, bright yellow chests, high-slot late remnants, any remnant worth 1+ divine

  • Skip long detours for medium remnants

  • Do not spend on Expedition Tablet modifier stacking

This setup averages around 4 divines per map in roughly 6 minutes, netting a consistent 35+ divines per hour without much jackpot risk.

Jackpot Strategy (Full Investment)

For players farming for Mageblood, Headhunter, or Aldur's Legacy jackpots.

  • +2 modifier tablets with strong secondaries (6-8 divines each, up to 20 for triple stat)

  • Waystones at 20/40/40 for standard, 30/40/50 for 7+ slot maps

  • Scout every Grand Expedition before starting

  • Fish rumors for 4+ Grand Expedition logbooks

  • Tighten your loot filter to hide all rares except jewelry

  • Reroll aggressively with Liquid Verisium

Reported returns average 15 divines per map on standard Aldur's-style Grand Expeditions and 35 divines per map on 7+ slot maps, with real jackpot chances at Aldur's Legacy (200+ divines), Mageblood, Rite of Passage, and Dialla's Desire.

Sustaining Logbooks From Normal Maps

The maps between Grand Expeditions are the logbook mine. Run them cheap.

  • Alch and go or low-investment magic maps

  • Focus on Expedition to spawn and drop logbooks, ignore other mechanics unless free

  • Logbook drops scale hard with monster rarity, since rare runic mobs have a high logbook rate while normal ones drop nothing

  • Only complete the Expedition to the boss, do not sweep full clear

Cheap complementary layers include Abyss for rare density or budget Breach setups for Hiveblood and catalysts. Running Ulaman Abyss on the side pairs well when Divines are cheap, since currency chests print exalts fast.

Layout Tips

Every Expedition layout has quirks. A few matter more than others.

  • Frigid Bluffs - Spawns PoE 1 style remnants that add huge monster difficulty and loot. Read the mods carefully, they can grant crit immunity or damage type immunity, but they are worth pathing into.

  • Lush Isle - Phenomenal experience remnants, top pick if you need levels.

  • Scorched Clay and Craggy Peninsula - Extra rarity-adding objects scattered across the map. Great for juiced strategies.

  • Grazed Prairie - Adds wisps to the map. Chasing wisps into remnants massively multiplies drops on juiced runs.

  • Exhumed Ruins - Hitting all leylines gives a free logbook. Nice but small return.

  • Sloughed Gully - Poor layout, expect to miss 30% of your remnants.

  • Barren Atoll - Bottom tier. Do not activate strongboxes here since they can brick the entire Expedition and spawn invisible invincible enemies that ignore defenses.

Bugs to Watch For

Expedition still carries a few annoying bugs.

  • Never tag an underground area and a remnant simultaneously, this can stop explosive progression permanently

  • Avoid Barren Atoll strongboxes entirely

  • Some flying mobs spawn out of bounds on Grazed Prairie, Firestorm and other AoE spells clip through terrain to kill them

Build Considerations

Expedition punishes weak builds. You need three things.

  • Damage - Late remnant chains produce tanky waves that soft-cap most starter builds. Push scaling before committing to juiced logbooks.

  • Auto-targeting - Mana Siphoner spawns constantly and forces you into small circles. Totems, triggers, or ranged skills like Spark, Arc Totems, or Sparkcaller variants perform far better than melee.

  • Ailment defense - A way to cleanse chill, freeze, and shock is very impactful during long remnant chains.

Day One Turnover Route

For players starting the league fresh, the fastest ramp looks like this.

  1. Hours 0-12: finish campaign, hit maps, rush Abyss Atlas nodes as a byproduct while boss-rushing.

  2. Hours 12-24: map with two irradiated tablets rolled for waystone chance. Craft any Abyss tablets that drop with the top mods (contains additional Rogue Exile, twice as likely to have rewards, four additional pets). Sell crafted tablets for 25-50 exalts each.

  3. After Atlas setup: transition into Grand Expedition farming with white or blue T15 maps plus Doryani for extra revives. Sell remnants worth 25+ exalts and prioritize currency chests.

This exact path produced 100+ raw divines from an early access starter in the first 12-14 hours of Forbidden Rites, with more value still parked in unsold appreciating items.

Grand Expedition farming in 0.5.5 rewards planning more than raw character power, though a strong build accelerates every step. Start with the budget setup to fund your tablet stack, transition into +2 modifier tablets once you have 20+ divines banked, and chase 7+ slot Aldur's style rumors for real jackpot potential. Between maps, sustain logbooks with cheap Expedition-focused waystones, hold Perfect Flux for the long climb, and keep an eye on Expedition Tablet prices since low supply may keep them profitable for the entire Forbidden Rites event.
