The Path of Exile 2 0.5.0 major patch named Return of the Ancients fully reworks its Breach endgame system, and Breachstone becomes the central key item to unlock exclusive Breach Domain endgame content, unique bosses, rare currencies and high-value unique gears. Today we are going to share the ways to get PoE 2 Breachstones, detailed usage steps, common bugs and hidden pro tips.
What Is Breachstone in PoE 2 0.5?
Breachstone is categorized as a Currency-type consumable item in PoE 2, a one-time-use key tied to the remade Breach endgame mechanic in patch 0.5.0. It is required to reveal Breach Strongholds on the Atlas.
Single use only: Each consumed Breachstone disappears permanently after opening one Breach Domain access.
Core function: Inserted into Realmgates to uncover hidden Breach Domain maps on your Atlas Tree and open portals leading to exclusive Breach endgame zones.
Exclusive drop pool unlock: Activating a Breach Domain unlocks spawns of Hiveblood, Wombgifts, rare catalysts and Breach-exclusive unique jewelry (Breach Rings, high-tier Belts like Mageblood base variants) from domain monsters.
PoE 2 0.5 Changes for Breachstone
Before 0.5 update, Breachstones only directly summoned pinnacle bosses; the new patch rebuilds the whole crafting chain of Breachstone with two brand-new core materials: Hiveblood and Wombgifts, plus the brand-new crafting station: Genesis Tree.
Killing regular Breach-spawned enemies now drops three resources: Breach Splinters, Hiveblood and Wombgifts (these two new items are essential supplementary materials for late-game Breachstone crafting at Genesis Tree).
Fully stacked Breach Splinters automatically convert into a special variant of Wombgift, which is the mandatory turn-in material for crafting finished Breachstones at Genesis Tree instead of direct splinter combination only.
Brand-new Breach Domains generate naturally across your unlocked Atlas nodes; Breachstone is the only item to expose all hidden domain maps and unlock three progressive tiered Breach dungeon content: Breach Hives, Sky Hives and Floating Hive Fortresses.
How to Get Breachstones in PoE 2 0.5?
Obtaining a Breachstone requires patience and effort. You cannot simply find them as direct drops from regular enemies, nor do Breach Splinters auto-turn into Breachstones directly after stacking. Instead, you need to collect smaller fragments, convert them into a special Wombgift, then craft Breachstones via the brand-new Genesis Tree crafting system located in the Monastery of the Keepers hub. Here is the complete updated process:
Step 1: Collect Breach Splinters, Hiveblood & Wombgifts from Breach Events
Breach Splinters are core raw ingredients for creating Breachstone crafting materials. Alongside splinters, killing monsters inside active Breaches also drops Hiveblood and regular Wombgifts, two exclusive resources for Genesis Tree crafting. A Breach is a special mechanic where a rift opens in the map, and waves of enemies pour out around you.
Important Requirements for Breach Resource Drops:
You must use Tier 11 Waystones or higher in your maps
Lower-tier Waystones will not cause enemies to drop Breach Splinters
The higher your Waystone tier, the better your overall drop chances for all three Breach materials
All active Breaches now display a visible progress bar tracking remaining closing time and kill-based duration extension. Filling the bar to 100% spawns a Stabilised Breach, which spawns tougher elite foes including new boss Vruun, Marshal of Xesht; Stabilised Breach enemies grant drastically improved drop rates for all three Breach crafting resources.
Step 2: Stack 300 Breach Splinters → Auto Convert into Revelatory Wombgift
The magic number is still 300, but 300 stacked Breach Splinters NO LONGER auto-turn into Breachstone directly. Once you collect 300 Breach Splinters, they automatically combine into a unique item called Revelatory Wombgift (special wombgift variant) instead of finished Breachstone. This auto-conversion triggers when full 300 splinters are stored in your inventory or stash.
Fix When Auto-Convert Fails
If a full 300-splinter stack does not auto-transform into Revelatory Wombgift, use this restack trick: Select the stuck 300 stack, split off 1 single Breach Splinter into an empty slot, leaving 299 in the original pile. Drag the separated single splinter back onto the 299 stack to reform a full 300 count. The stack immediately converts into one Revelatory Wombgift after restacking.
Stash vs Inventory Combining Note
Splinters kept inside the Fragment Stash are prone to conversion bugs. For stuck stash stacks: move all 300 splinters into your personal inventory first, then complete the split-and-restack fix above.
Step 3: Craft Breachstone at Genesis Tree in Monastery of the Keepers
You must travel to the new hub area Monastery of the Keepers (south of your starting Atlas zone) and use the Genesis Tree crafting station to turn your Revelatory Wombgift into a finished Breachstone:
Bring your converted Revelatory Wombgift plus required Hiveblood to the Genesis Tree inside the Monastery hub
Insert the Revelatory Wombgift into dedicated Genesis Tree crafting slot to consume materials and craft one Breachstone
Genesis Tree Basics: Nodes on the Genesis Tree can be allocated to tweak crafting outcomes; new Genesis Tree passive nodes get unlocked by spending regular Wombgifts obtained from Breach kills. The Genesis Tree is the sole crafting source for exclusive new ring/amulet/belt base types, 12 new jewel Catalysts (Catalysts no longer drop from monsters, only craftable via Genesis Tree), and specific caster/minion craftable modifiers for rings & belts.
Step 4: Improve Breach Farming via Revised Breach Atlas Tree + Stabilised Breach Content
The entire Breach Atlas Passive Tree has been fully revamped with brand-new and reworked nodes; finishing maps surrounding Monastery of the Keepers awards passive points to allocate into this dedicated Breach Atlas Tree. By investing in the right nodes, you can:
Increase the drop rate of Breach Splinters, Hiveblood and Wombgifts
Increase monster density during regular & Stabilised Breaches
Improve the overall frequency of natural Breach encounters spawning across your Atlas
Rare Breachstone Drop Source
Very rarely, elite rare Breach monsters or mini-bosses inside high-level Stabilised Breach & Breach Strongholds directly drop finished Breachstones upon death, yet the drop chance is below 1% per elite kill. This route is completely unreliable for intentional Breachstone collection; stick to the Genesis Tree crafting workflow as your main source.
How to Use Breachstones in PoE 2 0.5?
Once you have crafted your Breachstone via the new Genesis Tree crafting system, you need to know where and how to activate it properly.
1. Finding a Realmgate
Breachstones must be used at a Realmgate. Realmgates are special structures located on the Atlas. You cannot use a Breachstone anywhere else.
2. Activating the Breachstone
Travel to a Realmgate on the Atlas
Slot the Breachstone into the Realmgate
A portal will open automatically
This portal leads directly to the Breach Domain, a special endgame zone with exclusive new encounters and boss fights.
3. Clearing Breach Domain Encounters & Unlocking the Pinnacle Boss
Upon entering the portal, you will explore unique maps within the Breach Domain, featuring three new Breach-themed encounters: Breach Hives, Sky Hives, and Sky Fortresses.
Breach Hives contain burnable walls that increase monster counts when destroyed, triggering a large-scale monster encounter at the center. Sky Hives feature multi-wave combat challenges where you must defend Ailith while she closes the Breach Domain, with Ailith gaining special triggerable abilities throughout the fight. Sky Fortresses host a dual boss encounter with Tul and Esh.
Defeating the paired bosses Tul and Esh in Sky Fortresses rewards you with a key. This key grants access to Breach’s ultimate Pinnacle Boss: Xesht, We That Are One. This endgame boss tests your build and combat skills, and defeating it yields high-value exclusive loot, justifying the full Breachstone farming and crafting process. Always prepare thoroughly before entry — ensure your build is viable, flasks are fully charged, and your inventory has empty space for rewards.
Additionally, Stabilised Breaches (triggered by filling the new Breach progress bar to 100%) spawn a separate exclusive boss: Vruun, Marshal of Xesht, offering extra loot and challenges.
4. Revealing Breach Domains on the Atlas
New Breach Domains naturally spawn on the updated Atlas near the south-side Monastery of the Keepers hub. All maps surrounding this new hub contain Breach encounters and grant points for the fully revamped Breach Atlas Passive Tree.
Using a Breachstone reveals all locked maps inside existing spawned Breach Domains, allowing you to enter and explore these exclusive endgame areas with unique mechanics and rewards.
