If you thought ship choice in Windrose was just about bigger guns and faster sails, you’re missing the one setup that completely breaks the game right now. The Brethren Frigate build isn’t just strong—it’s borderline unfair. Read this Windrose ship build guide, we talk about the best loadouts for Brethen Brig and Brethen Figate.
Windrose Best Brethren Ship Builds & Loadouts
Windrose Best Ship Build
Brethren Frigate (NOT Blackbeard)
Why Brethren Frigate is broken. It jas ~200,000 HP (insane sustain). Repair kits heal WAY more. Enables infinite sustain loops. You become literally unkillable while outputting high DPS.
Build Cannons
Best Cannons: Devastating (Highest lb possible)
Applies +10% damage debuff (stacking to 30%). Works on ALL hits (not just weak spots). Epic bonus = +15% reload speed. More shots. Faster stacking damage. Higher sustained DPS.
Build Setup (Frigate)
Main Battery: 24lb / 36lb Devastating
Secondary Battery: 12lb Devastating
Main guns apply damage debuf. Secondary guns instantly benefit. This creates a damage snowball effect.
Build Hull
Best Hull: Keelhold
It’s insane because repair kits cannot be interrupted. Epic = +30% duration. In multi-ship fights, heals get cut short. With Keelhold, full healing every time. This breaks the game, combine high HP ship (Brethren), long repair duration, and uninterruptible healing. You get permanent healing under fire.
Build Naval Tactics
Best: Stretch The Supply
Effects has +30% Repair Kit duration and +200% Grog duration. This is broken because stacking bonuses. Keelhold has +30% duration. Stretch has +30% duration. Total = ~60% longer healing. Now combine with massive HP pool. Result is you outheal entire enemy fleets.
Build Boarding Gear
The rule is to match the gear level to the enemy level.
L12 enemies → L12 gear
L15 enemies → L15 gear
It's crucial because boarding = double rewards. Weak crew = failed runs. This is actually more important than cannons for progression.
BRIG & FRIGATE
Brig (Mid-Game Carry)
Focus: Survivability + control
Best pick: Brethren Brig
~90,000 HP (WAY tankier than Blackbeard). Lets you survive multi-ship fights (1v3–1v5). Playstyle is
tank hits, outheal enemies and win through consistency.
Frigate (Endgame Monster)
Two viable playstyles are Brethren Frigate (Safe / Broken), ~200,000 HP, huge sustain and slow (“steers like a fridge” ). The Playstyle is to sit in the fight, broadside everything and outheal entire fleets.
Boarding Tips
1. Boarding Gear Level (MOST IMPORTANT)
Enemy level = your boarding gear level
Examples:
L12 ship → L12 gear
L15 ship → L15 gear
If the underleveled crew dies fast, you get overwhelmed. This matters more than cannons.
2. Best Weapons for Boarding
Top Tier is Halberd. Wide sweeps → hits multiple enemies. Best for crowds, stair fights and tight spaces. Spam light attacks for consistent cleave. Two-Handed Sword has a slightly smaller sweep. Better precision than halberd. Safer, more controlled option. Avoid one-handed Windrose weapons → you and no AoE’ll get overwhelmed fast.
3. Best Gun Choice
Blunderbuss (SHOTGUN) has Massive AoE burst. Perfect for enemies stacking on stairs and tight choke points. Combo is shoot → swap weapon → it reloads passively and repeat.
4. Positioning Wins Boardings
Key Spots are Stairs (BEST POSITION). Enemies funnel into you. Perfect for halberd sweeps and blunderbuss blasts. This is where you delete entire waves. Railings shoot over them safely and control enemy approach. Big Rule is don’t run into open deck fights and let enemies come to YOU.
5. Buffs You SHOULD NEVER SKIP
Boost is endurance and vitality. More HP = survive longer fights.
