D2R Reign of the Warlock Expansion Best Build Tier List 2026

The Reign of the Warlock expansion has completely changed Diablo 2: Resurrected. It adds the first new class in 25 years, improved Terror Zones, the deadly Colossal Ancients, new items, runewords, and quality-of-life features like loot filters and stackable stashes. This D2R RotW build tier list ranks every viable build for the new expansion content.

D2R Reign of the Warlock Best Build Tier List 2026

The Reign of the Warlock expansion for Diablo II: Resurrected introduces the Warlock, the first new playable class in D2 in 25 years. Warlocks are mysterious dark scholars who master forbidden demonic magic, using it to bind demons and destroy enemies. The expansion also adds new gear and equipment tailored for Warlocks, as well as useful items for all classes. Consider S-Tier D2R Reign of the Warlock DLC builds first because they are fast, powerful, and work extremely well with the new expansion mechanics. They clear quickly, level smoothly, and handle Heralds of Terror and Colossal Ancients with ease.

1. Echoing Strike Warlock - S Tier

Echoing Strike Warlock is currently the most broken build in the D2R Reign of the Warlock expansion, dominating all game content with near-perfect performance across the board. It can hit up to 160,000 damage with its core skill, and its damage output is so massive that it gains insane life leech for unbeatable survivability. It excels at both P8 boss killing (including Hell Baal) and AoE clearing, with simply aim and fire, and long-range capabilities that avoid the need for constant teleport-stomping. While its optimal gear setup has moderate Magic Find potential, its sheer damage lets players swap in MF gear without losing effectiveness. It’s surprisingly budget-friendly: a basic Obedience runeword weapon paired with bindable demon auras (might, fanaticism) is enough to dominate P1 content, and it only gets exponentially stronger with endgame gear like Breath of the Dying. It deals pure physical damage, and with amplified damage and the rarity of physical immunes, it has almost no content blind spots. It’s a top pick for Ladder start, endgame farming, Uber Tristram, and Colossal Ancients, and is only held back by a near-certain future nerf.

2. Fire Warlock Build (Chaos Fire Caster) - S Tier

The Fire Warlock is an S-Tier build for both early leveling and late-game farming, shining especially in the RotW Terror Zones. Its core skills—Ring of Fire, Flame Wave, and Apocalypse (hitting 20k damage base, scalable even higher)—work in synergy, with three AoE fire spells for every combat scenario. Ring of Fire knocks enemies back for great survivability, and Apocalypse innately shreds fire resistance, making fire immunes far less of a problem. It levels blisteringly fast, and with bound conviction aura demons, facet jewels, and Consume Tainted for extra fire damage and enemy res reduction, it can melt entire screens of enemies—Act 2 Terror Zones are its perfect farming ground, as most foes there are weak to fire. It’s easy to gear with basic runewords (Spirit, Enigma) and caster staples (Mang Song's Lesson, Flickering Flame), and while budget setups work well, it truly shines with endgame gear. It’s a top choice for density farming and P8 content, and only falls slightly short of Echoing Strike in single-target boss damage.

3. Blizzard Sorceress - S Tier

The classic Blizzard Sorceress is the best all-around starter build in the game, unchanged by the Warlock expansion. It levels extremely fast from Normal to Hell difficulty, with wide AoE cold damage that decimates large enemy groups—perfect for the expansion’s faster-rotating Terror Zones. It requires no expensive gear to be effective, farming runes and high-value items with incredible efficiency, and even against the new cold-resistant enemies added in the DLC, it still dominates most in-game areas. Its safety and consistency make it a powerful character for solo players and Ladder resets.

4. Fist of the Heavens Paladin - S Tier

Fist of the Heavens is a holy damage juggernaut that excels in the Warlock expansion, especially in team play. It deletes large enemy groups with a single cast and deals massive damage to the new demonic foes added in the DLC, boasting both strong AoE and single-target damage, so it is perfect for tough boss fights like Colossal Ancients. It scales exceptionally well with mid-tier gear, no need for ultra-expensive endgame items. Its ability to drop a conviction aura in groups makes it an irreplaceable team member for high-level farming and tough boss fights.

5. Battle Orders Barbarian - S Tier

The Battle Orders Barbarian is indispensable for group play in the Reign of the Warlock expansion. Its massive life and mana buffs turn every team member into a tankier, more powerful version of themselves, and this utility is critical in the expansion’s hardest content—Heralds of Terror and Colossal Ancients included. It has an extremely simple playstyle, requiring no complex skill rotation, and is a mandatory pick for high-level speed runs, team Uber Tristram clears, and group Terror Zone farming. It has no solo viability, but its group utility cements its S-Tier status forever.

6. Magic Abyss Warlock - A Tier

The Magic Abyss Warlock is an elite A-Tier build, specializing in magic damage (similar to Blessed Hammer Paladin or Bone Necromancer) and excelling at AoE density farming. Maxing Abyss and Miasma Bolt unlocks powerful AoE that pulls enemies in and interrupts their casts. It has the best Magic Find potential of all Warlock builds, as players can stack MF gear without sacrificing meaningful damage, and it’s extremely budget-friendly with basic caster runewords (Spirit, Enigma) and skillers. While it struggles with magic immunes early on, sigils and Sunder Charms let it bypass immunities, and consume defiler boosts magic damage while reducing enemy magic resistance. Its only flaw is weak performance on spread-out enemies and slightly slower P8 boss killing than Echoing Strike/Fire Warlock, but it’s a top starter (Abyss is one of the two recommended Warlock leveling builds) and dominates P1 Terror Zones for Herald spawn farming.

7. Eldritch Blast Warlock - A Tier

Eldrich Blast is a strong Warlock build, a melee/magic hybrid that’s incredibly fun and tanky. Its core skill pulses 8,000 magic damage around the player, and Hex Purge applies an 88% chance for hexed enemies to explode for 2,000 additional magic damage, creating a chain reaction of AoE damage. It gains 20% life leech from magic damage alone, paired with high health, making it nearly unkillable in most content. It uses a hybrid gear setup (Arioc's Needle with Zod rune for physical damage, plus caster plus-skill gear) to apply hexes with cleave and deal magic damage with the blast, and it handles both magic and physical immunes thanks to its dual damage type. Its only weaknesses are slow P8 boss killing and high gear dependency, so it is a poor beginner build but an absolute monster with endgame gear.

8. Blessed Hammer Paladin - A Tier

The classic Blessed Hammer Paladin is a safe, consistent A-Tier build that works wonderfully with the Warlock expansion’s new content. Its holy damage hammers auto-circle the player, decimating enemy groups with no aiming required, and it levels easily from ladder start to Hell difficulty—perfect for new players. It excels against the expansion’s new demonic foes, and while it needs a few specific gear pieces to reach its full potential, mid-tier gear is more than enough for most content. It’s a reliable farmer for Terror Zones and runes, and only falls to A-Tier because it’s outpaced by S-Tier builds in pure clearing speed.

9. Frozen Orb Sorceress - A Tier

Frozen Orb Sorceress is a fast, active cold caster that shines in the Warlock expansion’s shorter Terror Zone rotation. It clears entire rooms in seconds, making it ideal for solo players who prioritize speed and control, and it’s more flexible than the Blizzard Sorceress for tight, clustered enemy packs. It struggles a little against heavily cold-resistant enemies added in the DLC, but it still levels smoothly and farms efficiently—its only flaw is that it can’t match the raw AoE coverage of the Blizzard Sorceress.

10. Smite Paladin - A Tier

Smite Paladin is the king of single-target boss killing and a top A-Tier build for the expansion’s pinnacle content. It has incredible single-target damage and high defense, letting it tank even Colossal Ancients and Uber Tristram bosses with ease. It’s the go-to build for targeted farming of Diablo, Baal, and Uber bosses, and while it’s not the fastest for full zone clearing, its boss-killing prowess is unrivaled. It’s also the best torch farmer in the game, a critical role for ladder progression, and only falls short of S-Tier due to its limited AoE capabilities.

11. Lightning Fury Amazon - A Tier

Lightning Fury Amazon is a fast-leveling A-Tier build that clears large areas with chain lightning damage, perfect for early ladder progression. It’s strong from the start and farms basic runes and items efficiently, but it struggles against the many lightning-resistant demons added in the Reign of the Warlock expansion—this one blind spot keeps it from S-Tier. It’s still a great choice for solo players who enjoy a ranged, high-speed playstyle for early to mid-game content.

12. Mirrored Blades Warlock - A Tier

Mirrored Blades is a solid A-Tier Warlock build, a cleave-focused melee variant that excels at elite sniping and Uber Tristram (second only to Smite Paladin for Uber clears). It has good AoE damage from cleave and a proc-based AoE skill, and it pairs well with hex skills (Hex Bane for defense reduction, Hex Purge for attack speed) to boost hit chance and damage. It’s a great speed farmer in dense content, and its smiter-like setup makes it perfect for Uber Tristram and Colossal Ancients. Its only downside is that it’s a worse version of Smite for pure boss killing, but it’s a versatile build for endgame content and elite sniping—critical for Herald spawn farming in Terror Zones.

13. Meteor Frozen Orb Sorceress - A Tier

This hybrid fire/cold Sorceress build is an A-Tier workhorse, with unbeatable flexibility for the Warlock expansion’s varied monster types. It switches seamlessly between fire and cold damage, handling almost all enemy resistances (excluding dual fire/cold immunes, which are extremely rare) and making it perfect for mixed Terror Zones. It’s safe and fast, with burst AoE damage from Meteor and consistent clearing from Frozen Orb, and its only downside is that it needs a bit more gear to reach its maximum power compared to pure elemental Sorceress builds.

14. Fire Wall Sorceress - A Tier

Fire Wall Sorceress is a deadly A-Tier caster for tight, crowded content like the Chaos Sanctuary and the expansion’s clustered Terror Zones. It lays down a persistent wall of fire that melts grouped enemies, and the Warlock expansion’s new fire-boosting items make it extremely easy to gear. It’s a great choice for players who enjoy strategic, stationary casting, and while it struggles with spread-out enemies, it dominates in dense farming areas.

15. Shock Wave Barbarian - A Tier

Shock Wave Barbarian is an A-Tier support build with incredible group utility in the Warlock expansion. It stuns large groups of enemies, rendering them helpless against the team, and this is invaluable against dangerous foes like Heralds of Terror and high-health Colossal Ancients minions. It keeps the entire party alive and able to deal damage without interruption, and while it has no solo clearing power, its team utility makes it a top pick for high-level group runs.

16. Blood Boil Warlock (Demon Build) - B Tier

Blood Boil is a B-Tier Warlock build, a demon summoning variant that blends summoner mechanics with active fire/physical damage. It uses Summon Tainted and Demon Mastery to raise a demon army, with Blood Boil making demons burst for heavy physical/fire damage (Engorg is required to heal demons, as Blood Boil damages them). It has solid AoE damage and perfect MF potential, with easy MF stacking on basic gear (Obsession, Shako, Mara’s), and it’s budget-friendly—no Infinity runeword is needed, as bindable demons can provide conviction aura and cursed effects for dual damage types. Its flaws are severe, though: it has abysmal boss killing due to fragile summons, low survivability in P8 content, constant positioning, healing, and re-summoning. It’s best as an elite sniper and low-player-count density clearer, and it’s highly gear-dependent for endgame P8 content—without Enigma, its teleport-stomp playstyle falls apart.

17. Berserk Barbarian - B Tier

Berserk Barbarian is a B-Tier melee build with massive physical damage, a fun playstyle for players who enjoy close-quarters combat. It excels at elite sniping and single-target damage, and with Find Item, it can get double loot from unique enemies—a huge bonus for farming. However, it has extremely low defense, making it risky against the Warlock expansion’s powerful foes like Heralds of Terror, and it needs ultra-expensive gear to survive and deal maximum damage in Hell difficulty. These flaws keep it from higher tiers, even with its strong damage output.

18. Lightning Sorceress - B Tier

Lightning Sorceress is a B-Tier caster that clears extremely fast when enemies are weak to lightning, with chain lightning and Nova for massive AoE damage. Unfortunately, the Reign of the Warlock expansion added a large number of lightning-resistant demons, creating major blind spots for this build. It still works well in lightning-friendly zones (like the Ancient Tunnels), but has limited content viability.

19. Summon Necromancer - B Tier

The classic Summon Necromancer is a B-Tier build that’s one of the safest in the game, using skeletons and golems to tank damage while the player stays back and supports. The Warlock expansion’s new items give it a slight boost to summon power, and it works decently in most expansion content. Its biggest flaw is its slow clearing speed, which makes it unable to keep up with the fast Terror Zone rotation and high-tier farming builds—great for new players, but not for efficient Ladder progression.

20. Enchant Sorceress - B Tier

Enchant Sorceress is a B-Tier support build that buffs the entire team’s weapon damage with fire magic, a valuable asset for group Warlock expansion runs (especially with melee builds like Berserk Barbarian or Mirrored Blades Warlock). However, it has zero solo viability—its own clearing speed is abysmal, and it relies completely on a strong melee team to deal damage. It’s a niche build for group play only.

21. Lightning Sentry Assassin - B Tier

Lightning Sentry Assassin is a B-Tier trap build that lays down automated lightning sentries to clear groups safely, with easy leveling and good synergy with the new runewords. It’s a great choice for players who enjoy a passive playstyle, but it requires careful positioning in the expansion’s crowded Terror Zones, and its clearing speed can’t match top-tier casters like Blizzard Sorceress or Fire Warlock.

22. Tornado Druid - B Tier

Tornado Druid is a B-Tier build with a unique, fun wind damage playstyle, and the new RotW items make it much stronger in the mid to endgame. It handles certain expansion enemies well (especially those weak to physical/cold wind damage) and has solid AoE clearing, but it levels slowly in the early game and can’t compete with S/A-Tier builds in pure speed. It’s a great casual build, but not for efficient Ladder farming.

23. Fissure Druid - B Tier

Fissure Druid is a B-Tier starter build that uses fire/earth damage for solid early-game clearing, making it a fine choice for ladder start. It levels easily in Normal and Nightmare, but it struggles heavily against the fire-resistant enemies added in the Warlock expansion, and it gets outclassed by better fire builds (Fire Warlock, Fire Ball Sorceress) in Hell difficulty. It’s usable, but not optimal for endgame content.

24. Pure Demon Summoner Warlock - C Tier

Pure Demon Summoner is the only C-Tier Warlock build, a physical damage summoner variant that uses Goatman and Defiler. It plays like a Fishymancer Necromancer but requires no corpses—teleport-stomp, apply Lethargy and Death Sigils, and let minions trigger explosions to clear enemies. It’s a decent elite sniper in endgame gear, with Death Mark to focus minions on unique foes, but it has terrible early-game performance (feels clunky and weak without endgame gear), low survivability in P8 content, and dumb minion AI that struggles to target specific enemies in large packs. It’s outclassed by every other Warlock build in almost all content, and while it’s fun for summoner fans, it’s not a viable choice for efficient ladder progression or endgame farming. It also ranks at the bottom for density farming and Uber Tristram.

25. Wake of Fire Assassin - C Tier

Wake of Fire Assassin is a C-Tier trap build that deals underwhelming fire damage in the Warlock expansion. It levels slowly, and its traps get overwhelmed by the fast, high-health enemies like Heralds of Terror, with clearing speed that’s outmatched by every other fire and trap build in the game.

26. Plague Javelin Amazon - C Tier

Plague Javelin Amazon is a C-Tier build that relies on slow poison damage, a fatal flaw for the Warlock expansion’s fast, frequent Terror Zone rotation. Poison damage is too slow to clear crowds efficiently, and the build needs extremely expensive gear to deal meaningful damage to endgame foes.

27. War Cry Barbarian - C Tier

War Cry Barbarian is a C-Tier support build that provides defense buffs and fear effects, but it’s vastly less useful than other Barbarian builds (Battle Orders, Shock Wave) in the Warlock expansion’s group play. Its buffs are weak compared to Battle Orders, and its fear effect is inconsistent against high-level enemies. Solo progression is extremely slow, with almost no clearing power.

28. Freezing Arrow Amazon - C Tier

Freezing Arrow Amazon is a C-Tier ranged build that uses cold damage but is completely overshadowed by the Blizzard and Frozen Orb Sorceresses in the Warlock expansion. It has low clearing speed, struggles with cold-resistant enemies added in the DLC, and lacks the AoE coverage and damage of top cold builds. It’s a fun casual build, but not for efficient farming or progression.

29. Nova Sorceress - C Tier

Nova Sorceress is a C-Tier caster with inconsistent lightning damage that fails to synergize with the expansion’s new items. It struggles in the crowded Terror Zones (its short-range AoE is a liability against fast enemies) and can’t compete with other Sorceress builds like Blizzard or Lightning Fury Amazon in clearing speed or damage.

30. Lightning Strike Amazon - C Tier

Lightning Strike Amazon is a C-Tier melee lightning build that’s extremely risky in the Warlock expansion. It levels slowly, has low defense against powerful foes like Heralds of Terror, and requires ultra-expensive gear to deal viable damage in Hell difficulty. Its melee playstyle is a liability in the expansion’s tough content, and it’s outmatched by every other lightning build in the game.

31. Frost Nova Sorceress - C Tier

Frost Nova Sorceress is a C-Tier build with very low AoE damage, making it non-viable for the Warlock expansion’s endgame content. It only works in the early ladder if players invest heavily in gear, and even then, its clearing speed is abysmal. It’s a build for fun only, with no efficiency or practical use in the expansion.

32. Bone Spear Necromancer - C Tier

Bone Spear Necromancer is a C-Tier build that focuses on single-target bone damage, a major flaw for the Warlock expansion’s group-heavy Terror Zones. It’s too slow to clear large crowds, and its single-target damage is outmatched by boss-killing builds like Smite Paladin and Echoing Blades Warlock. It has no niche in the expansion, making it a poor choice for farming or fast progression.

33. Phoenix Strike Assassin - D Tier

Phoenix Strike Assassin is a D-Tier build that relies almost entirely on the Mosaic Runeword, a crutch that makes it extremely fragile to balance changes (a near-certain nerf). Even at full power, it struggles against the Warlock expansion’s tough new enemies like Colossal Ancients and Heralds of Terror, with low damage and survivability that can’t compete with other melee or assassin builds.

34. Poison Nova Necromancer - D Tier

Poison Nova Necromancer is a D-Tier build with excruciatingly slow poison damage, which is completely incompatible with the Warlock expansion’s fast Terror Zone rotation. It can’t clear crowds efficiently, and fast, aggressive enemies like Heralds of Terror kill the player before the poison damage can take effect. It has no redeeming qualities in the expansion.

35. Claws of Thunder Assassin - D Tier

Claws of Thunder Assassin is a D-Tier melee assassin build that, like Phoenix Strike, relies heavily on the Mosaic Runeword. It fails to adapt to the Warlock expansion’s content, with low damage and survivability against high-level foes, and its melee playstyle is a liability in tough content like Uber Tristram and Colossal Ancients. It has no synergy with the new D2R items.

36. Double Throw Barbarian - D Tier

Double Throw Barbarian is a D-Tier melee build with low damage and high risk in the Warlock expansion. It levels slowly, and its ranged melee playstyle is inconsistent against fast, high-health enemies like Heralds of Terror. Even with decent gear, it feels weak in Hell difficulty, and it’s outmatched by every other Barbarian build in the game.

37. Dragon Tail Assassin - D Tier

Dragon Tail Assassin is a D-Tier build that deals low fire damage with no synergy with the items recently added. Its clearing speed is abysmal, making it unable to keep up with ladder progression or Terror Zone farming, and it has no niche in any expansion content. It’s a fun casual build, but not for any practical use.

38. Whirlwind Barbarian - D Tier

Whirlwind Barbarian is an iconic but D-Tier build in the Warlock expansion, requiring god-tier gear to deal viable damage and survive. It levels extremely slowly, and its melee playstyle struggles against the expansion’s hardest endgame enemies (Colossal Ancients, Uber Tristram bosses). Even with top-tier gear, it can’t compete with S/A-Tier builds in clearing speed or survivability.

39. Strafe Amazon - D Tier

Strafe Amazon is a D-Tier ranged build with inconsistent damage and slow clearing speed, unable to compete with other ranged builds (Lightning Fury Amazon, Freezing Arrow Amazon) in the Warlock expansion’s Season 13 and DLC content. Its damage output is too low for endgame content.

40. Leap Attack Barbarian - D Tier

Leap Attack Barbarian is a D-Tier melee build with low damage and defense, making it non-viable for both ladder start and the Warlock expansion’s content. Its leap attack playstyle is inconsistent against grouped enemies, and it can’t tank or deal enough damage to survive Hell difficulty. It has no redeeming qualities in the expansion, making it one of the worst Barbarian builds.

41. Holy Fire Paladin - D Tier

Holy Fire Paladin is a D-Tier build with weak fire damage that’s completely outclassed by better fire builds like Fire Warlock and Hydra/Fire Ball Sorceress in the Warlock expansion. It fails against the fire-resistant enemies added in the DLC, and its passive fire aura deals too little damage to clear crowds or kill bosses efficiently. It has no niche in the expansion.
