Path of Exile just announced a whole lot of crafting changes for patch 3.26. There's some very cool new orbs, and this is good news for crafting and the economy. Read this PoE 2.26 Veiled Chaos Orb guide, and we’ll break down the uses, prices, drop rates, and how to craft.
In "Path of Exile," the Veiled Chaos Orb is used to modify an item by rerolling all its prefixes while preserving its suffixes. When applied, it not only changes the prefixes but also adds a random veiled modifier. This is particularly useful for items like boots, as there is a high probability of unveiling a beneficial movement speed modifier. Players often use it strategically to enhance their gear, aiming for optimal modifiers like Onslaught, which boosts movement speed significantly. The Veiled Chaos Orb thus serves as a valuable tool for crafting and improving item stats, especially in pursuit of speed-based builds.
In Path of Exile 3.24 Necropolis league, the price of Veiled Chaos Orbs started at 36, then in 3 weeks, they were 1000 Chaos Orbs. 3 weeks before there were only 5-9 chaos orbs. So this being changed was a nerf to basically everyone who wasn't a top-end crafter.
Now, they've also done something very cool, which is adding the veiled exalted orb. But instead, they just removed the veiled chaos and then changed how it worked. But now they've added in the veiled exalted orb. This functions the way Ashling used to, and that is the way that the Veiled Chaos Orb has functioned for the last two leagues. So, it will remove a random modifier and add a random veiled modifier to a rare item. This is very useful in a lot of high-end scenarios.
So, an example of that would be again with boot crafting. That's a very common use for Ashling or Veiled Exalted Orbs, where you craft your suffixes, and then you want to force some prefix. What you do is go prefixes cannot be changed or suffixes cannot be changed, and then use your veiled exalt. It will remove one of your prefixes. Add another veiled modifier, and then you can try and complete the craft.
However, another big bonus of these being itemized and a big buff to high-end players is that these can be combined with Hinekora's lock. So, before you use your Veiled Exalted Orb, what you do, use your Hinekora's lock, which will show you the outcome of the next currency item that you use on it without actually applying it. So, it's a bit of a peek into the future. You can see what's going to happen before you use the orb. And with veiled exalted orbs, this can be used on very expensive items like mirror tier items to get a perfect sixth and final mod.
Previously, you could kill monsters and get Veiled Chaos Orbs in Sanctum or from anywhere. So there was a ton of them. That's why they were so cheap. But then they changed it so that veiled orbs only dropped from Catarina, and they were quite rare. So there were very few, and a lot of people needed them. Normally, 2 to 3 exalt or 2 to 3 divine bootcraft instead turned into like a 10 to 12 divine bootcraft.
The drop rates for Veiled Chaos Orbs from Catarina are approximately as follows:
Area Level 84+: ~30%
Area Level 83: 20%
Older data indicates that there may have been similar drop rates for lower area levels (78-82, 73-77, and 68-72)
Are Veiled Chaos Orbs going to drop from the old places? Are they going to be global drops? Are they going to be fairly common, or are these now going to be relegated to Catarina? Hopefully, they revert them to their traditional drop stage. They drop all over the place, meaning they'll be very common and very cheap for everyone.
Defeat Catarina: Start by engaging Catarina in battle. Ensure you destroy all her totems first, as this is essential for defeating her.
Manage Volatile Skeletons: When Catarina's health is low, she will summon volatile skeletons. Quickly walk over them before they spawn to destroy them, preventing them from chasing and exploding on you.
Collect Drops: After defeating Catarina, she has a chance to drop Veiled Chaos Orbs among other rewards. Make sure to loot the area thoroughly.
Crafting Process: Once you have Veiled Chaos Orbs, you can use them on items to reroll prefixes while adding a random veiled modifier, enhancing your gear.
