FIFA 23 Post Patch Best Formations - 41212, 4321, 433, 4222, 5212 Custom Tactics & Instructions

FIFA 23 Post Patch 41212 Formation Custom Tactics & Player Instructions

The 4-1-2-1-2(2) narrow Diamond formation with great through balls is really strong. It's got the Holy Trinity triangle in the middle of a come and two strikers are going to be able to play a lot more through balls, so you're going to be able to play a lot quicker on this patch.  It will still have the weaknesses if you need the full-backs to attack and doing that leaves you a bit more vulnerable to the counter-attack which will be more vulnerable on this patch of pace better, but with attacking definitely being buffed, this patch is well-hurting formations that almost was suited because they had the traveler options more. This one wasn't quite as good because he didn't have as good travel options without a lamb Ram left mid or right mid without that being as vital you can play a bit more through the center. But with this one being very good for quick passing and through balls, this formation is going to make a resurgence on this patch.

4-1-2-1-2(2) Custom Tactics

Defense Tactics

  • Defensive Style: Balanced

  • Width: 40

  • Depth: 65

Offense Tactics

  • Build-Up Play: Fast Build Up

  • Chance Creation: Balanced

  • Width: 45

  • Players in Box: 6 Bars

  • Corners: 3 Bars

  • Free Kicks: 1 Bar

We run a balanced defensive style, the 41212 narrow is really aggressive in the Press if you compress into the middle, but if the opponent's smart and plays the ball out to the wings it's actually quite difficult to press and trap them in, so running press on possession, not on heavy touch can be like counter-intuitive, hence the reason why we just go with balance. We are going to go with 40 widths and for those of you that are on Old Gen same principle applies these tactics will work - just change the depth if you feel the game is a little bit more open. We go for 65 depth here since we like the 41212 narrow to be quite a high line and to try and win the ball back to Ping it around and look for kind of that quick counter. If you are unsure about tracking over the top three balls, you can lower the Depth like 50 but you don't really want to go any lower than that because you just invite more pressure. And sometimes having a higher line and trying to keep the gaps between your midfielders and the defenders minimal can actually be helpful when trying to deal with over top three balls because you can press the ball a little bit quicker you can try and stop the ball from coming in altogether now. Fast Build-Up is great in the 41212 narrows because your players will transition up together, however, one thing you need to be mindful of - is if you lose the ball in the middle of the park you'll fall back your right center mid, and everybody is going to be running forward they're all going to be out of position, so you can really kind of shaft yourself in that area. So do make sure that you're very precise with your passes you allow yourself to kind of build up.

If you have big strikers, just picking them on Stay Forward, get in behind can be great but having it on the mixed attack just means that sometimes they'll show short sometimes they'll run in behind, and sometimes they'll move out towards the wing. For our Center Attacking Mid, we left them on balance. For our left CM, we have them on Cover Center, and then for our right CM, we have them on get forward get into the box across, and cover the wing. It doesn't defend in a 4-4-2 but it actually still works really well having this one on cover Center means that you have your two midfielders here basically in the CDM's role. And then this right center been on Cover Wing just helps in that Wing Department as well for you. Get forward and get to the box across though to have that extra man that overload coming in through the middle so you're not just attacking with three strikers, but your left CM needs to be able to shoot from range.

FIFA 23 Post Patch 4222 Formation Custom Tactics & Player Instructions

4-2-2-2 is still a top-five formation on this patch. Simply put the Four Triple Two has a little bit of everything - it has two Strikers that are two options for through balls, it's got width that you can put fast players out wide they're going to give you the width which is going to massively allow you to play through balls and use the pace. So 4-2-2-2 is going to suit all that it's solid defensively with a flat back for 2 CDMs and 2 CAMs that you can get to come back and it's good at keeping the ball. All the things that have made the Four Triple Two good stir-fry this FIFA are still going to benefit on this patch.

4-2-2-2 Custom Tactics

Defense Tactics

  • Defensive Style: Balanced

  • Width: 37

  • Depth: 71

Offense Tactics

  • Build Up Play: Long Ball

  • Chance Creation: Direct Passing

  • Width: 40

  • Players in Box: 6 Bars

  • Corners: 3 Bars

  • Free Kicks: 1 Bar

We do run a balanced defensive style. A lot of people have run Press After Possession Loss and Pressure On Heavy Touch right now and we would recommend that if you feel confident in your pressing ability. You do have five substitutes available on FIFA 23 and you need to make sure that you use them so if you want to run that feel free, but for most people, we think balance will kind of be your go-to. For our Width, we are going to run 40 width here, since we want to be a little bit more compact. For the depth though, 71 depth should be used for players that are sick of over the top three balls and want to reduce the gap between their Center mids and their center-backs, so if you aren't confident with tracking through balls or being aggressive on the press to stop the through balls at the source run 50 here. When it comes to the full Triple Two, Long Ball allows you to try and get the ball out to your right attacking mid and left attacking mid quickly to look to hit on the counter. However, you have to be confident in your ability to dribble turn, and get the ball out.

Full Back Instructions

  • Interceptions: Normal Interceptions

  • Attacking Support: Overlap

  • Defensive Position: Stick To Position

For our player instructions, it is pretty simple. We have the 2 big Strikers to just stay forward, when you have attacking runs on mix it gives you that balance, the strot of the striker though you're a quicker more nimble Striker the more techy one has them on getting behind. We have Right attacking mid and left attacking mid on balanced.  For your holding DM, get cut passing lane, stay back while attacking, and cover center, but then for your left DM, your box-to-box cover center. If you wanted to you can put them on get forward here that can work really really well, you just need to be very confident in your ability to defend and do that one DM as. For both fallbacks, stay back while attacking but overlap make sure you use them when you do go forward in that attack.

FIFA 23 Post Patch Best 5212 Formation Custom Tactics & Player Instructions

5-2-1-2 is still a top formation in FIFA 23 Post Patch - it's still going to be very good defensively with the five Defenders, a new edition which is a narrow formation but also has the width of the left back and right back, so it's a narrow approach thinking for like a 41212 with a left back and right back going forward. In this formation, you will really want good wings as the pace on them is going to matter even more, and then one thing that's more important than anything in this formation is these left mids and right mids, they're a bit more attacking and play. But the left back and ride back in this formation are basically unmarked when you go forward, so think of this like a 352 alternative but if you prefer more of the wider playing - you like these Wingers to be as wide as possible down these areas, then this is the formation for you.

5-2-1-2 Custom Tactics

Defense Tactics

  • Defensive Style: Pressure On Heavy Touch

  • Width: 55

  • Depth: 65

Offense Tactics

  • Build Up Play: Fast Build Up

  • Chance Creation: Forward Runs

  • Width: 50

  • Players in Box: 7 Bars

  • Corners: 1 Bar

  • Free Kicks: 1 Bar

Using Pressure On Heavy Touch, pressing is very effective in his formation, this is an attack in formation and to be honestly balanced is still the best but you press off the position loss it does give you that benefit. Although you press every single time you lose the ball. But Pressure On Heavy Touch touches a more conservative approach.  Just increased the width just a tad bit here to 55, so when we're off the ball we're just a bit wider but we're still neutral, they still play very centralized in the central column so there's nothing too extravagant there. The depth increases to 65 so we're not delving into the automatic offside territory even though it's been changed a bit this year and we just want to be high of the pitch as possible. When you win the ball back, you want your two Strikers and your CAM to be quite far up, and that way you get ready for the counterattack.  You want that left back and right back to assist you when you win the ball back in the attack, so set up Fast Build Up from a defensive phase.

Goalkeeper Instructions

  • Saving On Crosses: Balanced

  • Saving Outside Box: Sweeper Keeper

If you want to you can put one of the strikers on getting behind. The central CAM is on comes back and the defense gets into the box for across that this is very important. When you defend the flat five two, this CAM is not going to come back as you would in 4231, they're still going to be this gap in between your two Strikers and your CAM, and your back five and your two Center Mids.  So you might have to bring this player back manually yourself.

FIFA 23 Post Patch Best 433 Formation Custom Tactics & Player Instructions

So when you start the game, you want to be starting on a 4231 but we're going to start off with a 433(3) variation, this is the most defensive formation to be used when you're inside the game and you're winning, for example, two nil and it's 70 minutes and your opponent turns on constant pressure. This is the anti-constant pressure tactic, nothing has really changed here.

4-3-3 Custom Tactics

Defense Tactics

  • Defensive Style: Balance

  • Width: 35

  • Depth: 45

Offense Tactics

  • Build Up Play: Slow Build Up

  • Chance Creation: Balanced

  • Width: 75

  • Players in Box: 1 Bar

  • Corners: 1 Bar

  • Free Kicks: 1 Bar

If you're using this as a purely anti-constant pressure tactic, it balances the play of things because console pressure is so effective. The idea is you're narrow compacted together, your Slow Build Up play possession because you want players to come towards you. A lot of players are struggling with possession here because they're finding themselves getting more restricted in the final third they just leave this unbalanced. The width's on 75 because you want to be as wide as possible almost emulating hug the sidelines. One for Play in Box and one for the Free Kicks, we're very defensive on this stance.

4-3-3 Player Instructions

Winger Instructions

  • Defensive Support: Come Back On Defence

  • Chance Creation: Balanced Width

  • Support Runs: Balanced Support

  • Support On Crosses: Stay On Edge of Box For Cross

  • Interceptions: Normal Interceptions

Striker Instructions

  • Support Runs: Stay Central

  • Attacking Support: False 9

  • Interceptions: Normal Interceptions

  • Defensive Support: Come Back On Defence

Central Mid. Instructions

  • Attacking Support: Deep Between Defenders

  • Support On Crosses: Balanced Crossing Runs

  • Interceptions: Normal Interceptions

  • Positioning Freedom: Stick To Position

  • Defensive Position: Cover Center

Defensive Mid. Instructions

  • Defensive Behaviour: Cut Passing Lanes

  • Attacking Support: Stay Back While Attacking

  • Interceptions: Normal Interceptions

  • Defensive Position: Cover Center

  • Positioning Freedom: Deep Lying Playmaker

Full Back Instructions

  • Attacking Runs: Stay Back While Attacking

  • Interceptions: Conservative Interceptions

  • Attacking Support: Overlap

  • Defensive Position: Stick To Position

Center Back Instructions

  • Attacking Support: Stay Back While Attacking

  • Interceptions: Normal Interceptions

  • Defensive Position: Stick To Position

We add Stay On Edge of Box For Cross for both of these wing players just to rotate the ball around, and the striker we put him on false 9 ideally you'd want someone who's got a good agility balance so what we would recommend is if you have for example a Neymar or a Mbappe. With a false 9, they don't actually play as a strike at the outside the box and they can help you to retain possession and give you a passing option in Midfield.

FIFA 23 Post Patch 4321 Best Formation Custom Tactics & Player Instructions

4-3-2-1 on post patch is one of the best formations because you can play football and it's unbelievably effective in that attack. This probably is going to be the most OP formation, it already before the patch was stupidly strong with lots of Pros. 4321 has basically three strikers - the free strikers in this formation actually are two Center forwards and a Striker, but they basically act as like three strikers, what's better than two Strikers to run onto three balls three, the free strike as you get in this a crazy OP for through balls with through balls being buffed and it being pacing to marrow a lot more on this new patch this formation. It's got three midfielders to control the Midfield to dominate the middle of the pitch, a lot of pros defend in a weird way where they put one of the centerfolds to come back on defense.  It's got three attackers which are great for counterattacks and through balls. This formation is really OP and a lot of people use it. The other way as well is you can just play it with overlap and fullbacks, so you have an infinite amount of options.

4-3-2-1 Custom Tactics

Defense Tactics

  • Defensive Style: Pressure On Heavy Touch

  • Width: 37

  • Depth: 71

Offense Tactics

  • Build Up Play: Long Ball

  • Chance Creation: Forward Runs

  • Width: 37

  • Players in Box: 6 Bars

  • Corners: 3 Bars

  • Free Kicks: 1 Bar

Recently EA has nerfed pressed on heavy touch on possession loss and constant pressure where you drain more stamina basically, this isn't a problem if you run heavy touch or press on possession loss because you have five substitutes available, although you will have a little bit of standard loss it's not really a big enough Nerf to stop you from running this all together.

For the width, we're actually going to run one of our most narrow bits here in the 4-3-2-1 with 37, we want to keep it compact and narrow, basically, force the opponent out towards the wing. Having a narrow width really helps stop the traveler because you're right center within left Center mid is where they need to be pretty much at all times to try and put that pressure on essentially. If you are on Old Gen and the game is more open,  we don't mind you running 45-50 depth, for New Gen users we would recommend about 55-60 for a lot of people. We set up 71 depth is because you get the automatic offside trap your defensive line sits higher if the opponent is playing with direct passing forward runs, it just stops them from constantly tracking those runs back to Narnia a little bit.

Fast Build Up can be good in the 4321, however, we think most people struggle with that because if you lose the ball in the transition up the pitch in the Midfield, your players are caught out of position it's easy for you to turn the ball over and then the opponent can score goals. The Long ball is super good if you are an over-the-top through ball player if you like to trigger runs or like to get the ball moving quickly, go for the long ball.
