There is a new Heartrune on the New World PTR that will definitely shake up both the PvP and PvE Meta: The Heartrune of Bile Bomb. Some versions of this are so strong that they can almost compete with the Heartrune of Detonate in terms of damage, but it also comes with additional benefits. The quick-firing Minor Heartrune of Bile Bomb launches an acid projectile that deals nature damage over time and reduces healing by 30% in an aoe. Once upgraded to the Major Heartrune of Bile Bomb, it also applies a 20% slow. The Stalwart Heartrune of Bile Bomb removes some of the benefits, but adds a 20% lifesteal/leeching effects to targets affected. The Brutal Heartrune of Bile Bomb turns the ability into a single-target projectile, but amps up the effects by increasing both the healing reduction as well as the damage dealt. The third version, Cunning Heartrune of Bile Bomb adds a 30% exhaust effect, reducing targets stamina regeneration.

Heartrune Effect

Let's start with the base functionality of this new heartrune, the New World Heartrune is the Heartrune of bile bomb, and the base effect of the normal version is:

Spit out a glob of corrosive bile that creates a 3.5m radius disease cloud on impact that lingers for 3s. Enemies that enter the cloud are afflicted with a debuff that deals 20% heartrune damage per second and reduces healing by 30% for 8s. Cloud sticks to enemies on direct hits.

Infected Throw: Leap into the air and throw a hatchet that deals 120% weapon damage. This attack inflicts 30% disease and 10% weaken to your target for 10s.

Where does it Drop

The base version of this heartrune is dropped by Simon Grey in the mutated version of the starstone amrine crossover dungeon.

Stalwart Heartrune of Bile Bomb (Tier 3)

Stalwart Heartrune of Bile Bomb spit out a glob of corrosive bile that creates a 3.5m radius disease cloud on impact that lingers for 3s. Enemies that enter the cloud are afflicted with a debuff that deals 20% heartrune damage per second and reduces healing by 30% for 8s. Cloud sticks to enemies on direct hits.

Crippling Bile: Inflicts Slow on successful hits, reducing target’s movement speed by 20% for 3s.

Mending Bile: Players who hit the afflicted targets are healed for 20% of the damage done but healing reduction is reduced to 15% and damage-over-time is removed.

The heartrune deals no damage only to have this lifesteal effect of 20, what is worth keeping in mind is that this applies to multiple targets at once, so if you spit this in the middle of a large group and somebody drops an AOE in there, they could get healed for a very large amount because they are hitting all of these targets.

Brutal Heartrune of Bile Bomb (Tier 3)

Brutal Heartrune of Bile Bomb spit out a glob of corrosive bile that creates a 3.5m radius disease cloud on impact that lingers for 3s. Enemies that enter the cloud are afflicted with a debuff that deals 20% heartrune damage per second and reduces healing by 30% for 8s. Cloud sticks to enemies on direct hits.

The damage over time in this case scales up to 240 percent which in combination with the base damage of this heartrune, actually means that it can keep up in damage with the heartrune of detonate, but that's only on a single Target, and it's not burst, but damage over time, so generally speaking, it is weaker in most scenarios, but with the added 50 healing reduction as well as a shorter 20 slow, we think the utility that you get from this beats having a little bit more damage.

Cunning Heartrune of Bile Bomb (Tier 3)

Cunning Heartrune of Bile Bomb spit out a glob of corrosive bile that creates a 3.5m radius disease cloud on impact that lingers for 3s. Enemies that enter the cloud are afflicted with a debuff that deals 20% heartrune damage per second and reduces healing by 30% for 8s. Cloud sticks to enemies on direct hits.

Crippling Bile: Inflcts Slow on successful hits, reducing target's movement speed by 20% for 3s.

Exhausting Bile: Inflicts Exhaust on successful hits, reducing target's stamina regeneration by 30%.

Neither of those things apply, the animation of the ability is fast, the projectile comes out decently fast at least, and it creates an AOE so it is not single target.

Exhaust

It gets even more devastating when you know how exactly it works, but we want to point out here first is just how strong exhaust effects are in New World, people are very comfortable with their muscle memory when it comes to dodging, and very frequently use it when they think they would have stamina, because they've done it for so long, that is not the case when exhaust effects come into play, they really throw you off and they make it really difficult especially for people who are used to light spanning to consistently get away, having this as an AOE in a war for example means you can throw a bunch of melees out of sync at the same time, keep in mind the slow and the enter hill applies to them as well.

Sticking Cloud Mechanic

But what's even more important about this is the sticking cloud mechanic, what happens is that the cloud doesn't just drop down on the ground in one place as long as you hit a Target, and that would already be strong because you can just deny a sacred ground, instead, the cloud sticks to a Target that you directly hit, and that Target carries the cloud around with them, the cloud stays active for 3 seconds, and any other enemy that comes in contact with the player with a cloud in their time frame will get all the effects applied to them as well, if you are getting spit at directly, you get the slow, you get the enter heel, you get the stamina reduction, and you get the damage over time which is also why we think this version is going to be better in every scenario even like 3v3 since it's going to work out better because you can apply it to multiple players there and even if you just hit a single Target they still get that stamina reduction which is extremely important by itself, the only thing that is different is that targets that are not hit directly will not spread the poison further and will not have a cloud around themselves as well to avoid a World of Warcraft corrupted bloodstyle incident, but what makes this even stronger is that you get hit with the full duration of all debuffs, the moment you step into the clouds, so if somebody already had the clouds on them for two and a half seconds and you step in you still get a full 8 second debuff if you touch them at that point, so for the effects to fully wear off of all enemies it can take up to 11 seconds, we personally love that we're seeing more anti-heal and exhaust effects being introduced into the game that actively force people to just take the fight instead of running away or healing or anything like that just go and you see the tags use your blocks, but at the same time we also acknowledge that there's a very good chance that this particular heartrune could overshadow the matter, it is worth noting that this is the first public test Ram iteration, so there's a good chance that multiple versions of this may get nerfed or buffed in different ways before we actually see them on the live client, so it wouldn't be too worried about the exact numbers at this point yet.
