Diablo 4 Season 12: the Season of Slaughter arrives on March 11, 2026 as a 7-week sprint before the expansion launches on April 20 with the Warlock class. The season introduces butcher transformations, a kill streak mechanic that rewards you with increasingly larger stat boosts like crit, movement speed, attack speed, and primary stat, plus bloodied items that scale off your streaks. Pseudo Torment 5 sigils for nightmare dungeons, labs, and infernal hordes raise the difficulty ceiling by roughly 10x monster HP over Torment 4, which means you will definitely notice a gap between the good builds and the bad builds more than before. Five out of the six classes are very minorly changed this season, the top builds are still the top builds for those classes, and the biggest difference, realistically, is that we are now losing sanctification, while Paladin received a more meaningful adjustment through the Castle paragon node nerf that brings the class more in line with everything else. Diablo 4 Season 12 Best Class Tier List

With the Torment 5 difficulty spike widening the power gap between strong and weak setups, class choice matters more this season than it has in recent ones. Paladin and Druid hold a clear lead at the top, while the remaining five classes cluster together at a competitive but slightly lower power level. Below is a class-by-class breakdown of where things stand based on PTR testing and the final round of balance changes heading into Season 12.

1. Paladin – S Tier

Leveling: ★★★★★ | Endgame: ★★★★★ | Build Diversity: ★★★★★ | Ease of Play: ★★★★☆

Paladin remains the number one recommendation for Season 12. The class is still very strong, even with the nerfs to specifically Castle that all of the builds will be affected by. The Castle legendary paragon node nerf brought average Castle values down from the previous 1,500 to 2,000 range to roughly 90 to 100, but the node is still worth running since stacking armor and strength feeds directly into it. Despite this blanket nerf, there are still a number of viable builds inside of that so long as you are willing to build around Arbiter of Justice and stacking buffs related to Arbiter as a sort of damage-increasing engine. The class has more build diversity than any other option in the game right now, with the builds looking like Thorns Blessed Shield, Aura Paladin, Hammer Paladin, Wing Strikes Paladin, and variations of Judgment Paladin, alongside additional options like Spear of the Heavens, Zeal, and Brandish Basic for players who want something different. For group play, the aura sharing alone puts Paladin at the top, and the two-handed Sundered Knight variant with the new buffs is particularly strong for the kill streak-focused season theme. Paladin is still a juggernaut of a class and is the safest, most well-rounded endgame pick in Season 12.

2. Druid – S Tier

Druid sits at the very top of the barrel alongside Paladin heading into Season 12. The classic poison puddle Pulverize build continues to dominate, and the bear form playstyle remains one of the most reliable and powerful endgame options in the entire game, with a projected ceiling around Pit 118. Druid does not have as many competitive build paths as Paladin, which keeps the Build Diversity rating low, but the sheer strength of Pulverize more than compensates for that limited variety. The class also benefits from being straightforward to pilot — you transform into a bear, you slam, and enemies die — giving it a top Ease of Play rating for anyone who prefers a tanky, simple approach. Earthspike Druid sits in A tier as an alternative, while Companion and Cataclysm variants land in B tier for players who want a different feel. There is also an interesting note from the developers that Druids will be able to choose which form they can run for certain skills in the coming expansion, with things like Trample having a wolf form that changes the skill to a jump, though this applies to Season 13 rather than 12.

Both of these sit firmly in S tier for the build rankings and benefit from the Warbringer paragon buff that gives the class a slight upgrade over the previous season. Beyond the top two, Barbarian also boasts a respectable pool of A-tier options in Bash, Earthquake, and Mighty Throw, plus B-tier variants like Charge, Leap, and Kick for those who want a more unconventional approach. The class is losing the double Selic setups, which means more Selic-oriented builds may dip a little, but on the other hand single Selic setups remain viable and Earthquake is probably getting a bit of an upgrade thanks to the paragon node buffs. Barbarian's natural tankiness, gap-closing tools, and straightforward gameplay loop give it the highest Ease of Play rating in A tier. The kill streak mechanic pairs well with Lunging Strike's built-in mobility, and the class performs reliably across all content types without requiring complex ramp-up mechanics.

4. Necromancer – A Tier

Necromancer's strongest builds are the Triple Golem build that started last season and Shadow Blight-focused builds at very equivalent levels of power. Both of these sit in S tier for endgame Pit pushing, and the class lands in a healthy spot among the A-tier group. Nothing has shifted dramatically for Necromancer heading into Season 12, and the lack of new changes means you know exactly what you are getting — a reliable performer with two distinct playstyles. Shadow Blight offers a more direct, caster-oriented damage-over-time approach that works well even with mediocre gear during leveling, while Triple Golem leans into minion-heavy gameplay where your golems soak pressure and your damage ramps up harder and harder as the fight goes on. The main downside is that outside of these two builds, there are no other competitive Necromancer options at the top end, giving the class one of the lowest Build Diversity scores. Still, for players who enjoy either the minion fantasy or the DoT caster fantasy, Necromancer delivers a solid and consistent Season 12 experience.

5. Spiritborn – A Tier

Spiritborn is still in the same range as the other A-tier classes, with the strongest build specifically being the Payback Thorns-focused build that was doing extremely well recently on live servers too. The class projects somewhere in the mid-110s for Pit pushing, which keeps it competitive with the other top performers. Payback Spiritborn is built around insane resource generation, high mobility, and cashing out with huge retaliatory thorns hits that scale off how much maximum resources you have stacked, creating a really fun rhythm where you dive into a pack and then drop massive nukes that wipe anything still standing. Beyond Payback, Quill Volley and Evade Spiritborn sit in A tier as alternatives, and Capa builds in general benefit from the kill streak mechanic because resource cost reduction from bloodied items is a big damage multiplier for those build archetypes. The leveling experience is the weakest point since Payback depends heavily on specific uniques to function properly, and without Rod of Keele the early game feels like a different build entirely. Ease of Play is moderate because the resource-spend-then-nuke loop requires familiarity with the timing and gear interactions.

6. Rogue – A Tier

Rogue is also around the same point of power as the other A-tier classes, with the Heartseeker basic skill build leading for Pit and Tower specifically, while the Death Trap build is particularly far behind in those modes but definitely better suited for the things that are not Pit or Tower. The Rogue class is all about speed, precision, and high execution in the endgame, and the kill streak season mechanic pairs well with Rogue's natural mobility, though keeping streaks alive in the Pit can still be inconsistent due to enemy spacing between packs. Rogues also have a general issue with bossing — you cannot really blast down bosses if you do not stagger them, and butcher lair bosses you basically do not stagger, so you have to just raw DPS them down. This is particularly problematic with the new T5 content where bosses have massively inflated HP pools. For Ease of Play, the class demands more mechanical skill than most other options, especially with Death Trap's close-range alternation between Dash and trap placement. Build Diversity is limited to two competitive paths, which keeps the rating low.

7. Sorcerer – A Tier

Crackling Energy projects around Pit 113, and Blizzard Sorcerer sits in A tier around Pit 105 as the only other notable alternative. The class has a clear top dog in Crackling Energy, and while that build is strong and performs well in bloodied content and kill streak farming, the lack of competitive alternatives within the class keeps Sorcerer from climbing higher. If you enjoy the lightning fantasy and do not mind committing to one build path, Sorcerer rewards you well with an explosive, fast, and visually satisfying gameplay loop that chews through trash waves and keeps your kill streak bonuses maxed. Leveling with chain lightning and crackling energy generation feels smooth, and the class is intuitive enough once you respect your defenses and positioning.

The specific build you run within your chosen class determines how fast you level, how high you push in the Pit, and how well you farm bloodied content with active kill streaks. All of these builds are subject to change when the final patch notes drop for Season 12, and a lot of them require very specific gear or gameplay styles to reach their full potential. The following tier list rates every competitive build across all seven classes for both leveling speed and endgame performance, based on PTR results.


S+ Tier (Pit 120+)

Thorns Blessed Shield Paladin (Captain America)

Leveling: ★★★☆☆ | Pit Pushing: ★★★★★ | Speedfarming: ★★★★☆ | Bossing: ★★★★★ | Survivability: ★★★★★

The Thorns Paladin uses blessed shield plus massive thorns and strong auras to delete packs while being borderline unkillable. This is currently the strongest build seen and played on the PTR, projecting to Pit 120 with room to grow, and it is extremely good at single target — truly great for the bossing content that T5 demands. In endgame content, the build shines because of its high defenses and massive damage output. Toss your shield into the fray and watch as enemies melt away from the high thorns damage hits. All of the thorns-related Paladin mechanics have been fixed, which pushes this build way up compared to previous seasons. You need three key uniques to get this build singing: Ward of the White Dove is a shield that increases the damage of blessed shield while reducing its resource cost, Mantle of the Gray helps increase damage even further after converting blessed shield into a juggernaut skill through the Shield of Retribution, and Griswalt's Opus provides huge damage increases on top of everything. This is still going to be one of the top tier picks for group play because giving everyone the aura through the Paladin's support capabilities turns good groups into unstoppable ones. Leveling requires chasing down specific uniques before the build fully comes online, which slows the early game and drags the Leveling rating down, but once geared this is a face-tank powerhouse that lets you stand in the middle of a pack of monsters and watch the screen explode.

Poison Puddle Pulverize Druid

This build will flatten enemies with devastating slams as your bear form pulverizes its way through endgame content, leaving bloodied poison puddles in its wake, with a projected ceiling around Pit 118. It is a build that just works from very early on — you log in, you start blasting, and you never stop. To get this build to really smash, you need to hunt down the Rotting Lightbringer, a two-handed mace that allows Pulverize to create puddles of poison on smash, generating massive overpower hits. When you have amassed enough puddles around enemies, it splashes all of those puddles, creating additional damage to everything nearby. Combine this with the Ursine Horror aspect to convert Pulverize into an earth skill for additional multipliers, and then through the Aspect of Rabid Beasts take all of that power and convert it into poison for insane damage. The bear form provides an incredibly tanky shell that keeps you alive through virtually anything the Pit throws at you, earning a top-tier Survivability rating. Leveling as a bear Druid feels sturdy and reliable, though the poison puddle synergy does not fully come together until the Rotting Lightbringer drops, which prevents a perfect Leveling score.


S Tier (Pit 115+)

Aura Paladin (Two-Handed Sundered Knight)

Leveling: ★★★★★ | Pit Pushing: ★★★★★ | Speedfarming: ★★★★★ | Bossing: ★★★★☆ | Survivability: ★★★★☆

The Aura Paladin is the go-to recommendation for Season 12, and for 99% of players this is the build to run. You need to play the two-handed version with the buffed up Sundered Knight because it gives you a crazy amount of aura skills and then on top of that you get a multiplier of 180x potency of those auras. Whenever you cast an aura skill, you trigger consecration beneath you, and then you receive a bonus on that. The Dawnfire gloves received a massive buff — activating Holy Light Aura now refreshes the duration of your stacking bonus, fixing the old problem where the build was zero DPS when that bonus fell off during boss fights. They also upped the time by five seconds, giving even more room to maintain the buff. You play Arbiter of Justice to automatically apply judgment, and Judicator can ramp up and give you another 80x multiplier, removing the need to play Celestial Strife and its own ramp-up requirement. With enough cooldown reduction from Sundered Knight and the paragon board, you can pretty much have your stuff up 100% of the time. The build also gives you 100% bonus movement speed through the Arbiter variant, bringing your total to 200%, which pairs perfectly with Season 12's kill streak theme where you want to be as fast as possible. If you have played the Auradin, you know how powerful it is when you are just walking and everything dies. This build works for beginners and experienced players alike and is a really smooth league starter, earning it a perfect Leveling score. The only area where it dips slightly is Bossing, as the Sundered Knight variant carries some single target losses compared to dedicated boss-killing setups.

Hammer Paladin

Hammer Paladin is listed as the best overall speed build in Season 12 and sits comfortably in the S tier at 115+ Pit levels. The build operates within the same Arbiter of Justice framework that powers all top Paladin setups, scaling off the combination of aura potency, judgment application, and the consistent uptime that defines the class at its peak. Where Hammer Paladin separates itself from the other variants is in raw clear speed — the build chews through content at a pace that rivals or surpasses even the Aura Paladin in open-world farming and Infernal Hordes. The Speedfarming rating reflects that strength, as few builds in the game can match the rate at which Hammer Paladin moves through maps and clears packs. Leveling is smooth thanks to the Paladin's strong baseline kit, though it does not quite reach the effortless day-one feel of the Aura variant. For bossing, the build performs well but is not the dedicated single-target killer that the Thorns variant is. Wing Strikes Paladin

The build also applies vulnerability through Seraph Wings, giving it utility beyond raw damage and smoothing out the kill-confirm loop in both farming and pushing scenarios. Wing Strikes remains pretty good heading into Season 12, and it offers a distinct feel from the shield-toss or judgment-focused variants with its high mobility and active playstyle. Leveling is smooth thanks to the natural gap-closing that Wing Strikes provides, and in the Pit the build performs very well, landing in the 115+ range alongside the other top Paladin options. For bossing, the vulnerability application helps with sustained damage output, though the build still sits a step behind the dedicated single-target setups. Survivability is solid with aura-based defenses and the Paladin's innate tankiness, though it does not reach the extreme durability of the Thorns variant.

Judgment Paladin

The build still operates within the Arbiter of Justice framework that powers all top Paladin setups, and the Judicator mechanic — where each time you judge an enemy it increases the damage they take from you up to 80x until they die — gives Judgment strong single-target ramp for boss fights in the Pit. The Castle paragon node nerf hits this build just like every other Paladin variant, bringing average Castle values down considerably, but the node is still worth running. For players who prefer a more active playstyle with deliberate judgment application rather than the passive aura walk, this remains a competitive endgame option. The Bossing rating is the highest in the class because of the Judicator ramp-up mechanic, which allows Judgment Paladin to deal escalating damage to single targets over the course of a fight. Speedfarming is adequate but not best-in-class, as the build favors methodical play over raw clear speed.

Payback Thorns Spiritborn

Put on the Helm of Ebawaka for devastating raw power, and the Ring of Midnight Sun serves as the foundation for resource generation — Payback is a huge resource spend and Midnight Sun gives it all back. The build also benefits heavily from the kill streak mechanic because resource cost reduction from bloodied Rampage affixes on armor is a big damage multiplier for Capa-scaling builds. However, Payback Spiritborn has lost access to Melted Heart from previous seasons, though it remains insane even without it. Leveling is the biggest weakness since the Payback loop depends on specific uniques to function properly, and without Rod of Keele the early game feels like a different build entirely. If you want something this season with a high-powered, high-reward loop for extremely satisfying payoff moments, Payback Spiritborn is absolutely worth investing in for the endgame.

Hammer of the Ancients Barbarian

The build offers a more deliberate, heavy-hitting playstyle compared to the mobility-focused Lunging Strike, rewarding players who enjoy lining up big slams on grouped enemies. HotA performs well in both Pit pushing and general farming, and the Barbarian's natural fury generation keeps the rotation flowing without awkward downtime. Pair those two with the high fury stacking of the Barbarian class and the awesome power of Ramlad's Magnum Opus and you have one fast-attacking, big-smashing Barbarian. The Warbringer paragon buff gives the build an extra push compared to previous seasons, and the kill streak mechanic feels tailor-fit for a build that naturally moves this quickly between packs. Leveling with Lunging Strike is naturally smooth because the gap-closing mechanic keeps your pace up from the very first acts, earning it a perfect Leveling score. For content outside of Pit and Tower, Heartseeker falls behind Death Trap in speed and overall feel, which drags the Speedfarming score down — the build is optimized for pushing, not for rapid farming loops.
