roman eremenko (former club: cska moscow) - banned

cska moscow star roman eremenko has been suspended for 2 years from all competitions, following the positive result of a doping control test in competition undergone by the player after the uefa champions league group stage match between bayer 04 leverkusen and pfc cska moskva played on 14 september 2016 in germany.

 

dirk kuyt (former club: feyenoord) - retire

dirk kuyt recently announced his retirement from all forms of football after leading feyenoord to their first eredivisie title since 1999. and now he is set to be roped in by the indian super league (isl) this season and it is reported that he has been offered to the clubs for usd 750,000. kuyt scored 51 goals in 208 appearances for liverpool and in 2006 he was named dutch footballer of the year.

 

zlatan ibrahimovic (manchester united) - injured

the premier league champions released zlatan ibrahimovic this summer with him sidelined with a serious knee injury. it was believed ibra may look to continue his playing career once fit in either the mls or the chinese super league. however, the daily star reports that ibrahimovic could return in five months – and that could be with manchester united. but all these have not been confirmed yet.

 

xabi alonso (former club: bayern munich) - retire

at the age of 38, and after a career of remarkable success and relentless achievement, frank lampard has announced his retirement from new york city football club on february 2017, as a player with a clear hint that he will move into management. he is the all-time leading goalscorer for chelsea, where he played for 13 years, and is considered by a number of journalists and football experts to be one of the greatest midfielders of his generation. we can except him be selected to fifa 18 new icon.

 

per mertesacker (former club: arsenal) - retire

per mertesacker has strongly suggested he could be heading towards retirement this summer after declaring himself 'mentally wasted' and saying he would rather finish his career on a high. the 32-year-old missed the vast majority of the season with a knee injury but was still able to put in a stellar performance in the fa cup final against chelsea, his one and only start of the campaign. despite his lack of action, arsenal still awarded the german veteran with a one-year contract extension, but that may not stop him from hanging up his boots after a long and arduous career.

 

anthony vanden borre (former club: montpellier) - move to tp mazembe

vanden borre, 29, brought a premature end to a season-long loan deal with montpellier before christmas and then cancelled his contract with anderlecht amid speculation he would retire from the game on 10 january 2017. after less than two months in retirement, the former fiorentina and genoa defender surprised everyone, however, by announcing he signed for congolese side tp mazembe on 2 march 2017, and fulfilling an ambition of playing for the club based in lubumbashi near to where he was born.

 

didier drogba (former club: montreal impact) - move to phoenix rising fc

on 12 april 2017, after nearly four months as a free agent and declining a move to corinthians, the former chelsea striker drogba signed for usl side phoenix rising fc, he also became an owner of the club making him the very first player-owner in football history. phoenix rising have several players with premier league experience including the former leicester man jordan stewart and a former team-mate of drogba, shaun wright-phillips.

 

danny (former club: zenit st. petersburg) - free agent now

daniel miguel alves gomes, much better known as danny, has announced that he leaves zenit st. petersburg after 9 years in the powerful russian ensemble. with contract until june 30, the portuguese international has made public the decision of the club not to extend the contractual relationship. the player, for whom zenit paid 30 million euros nine seasons ago, has won three league titles, a russian cup and a european super cup. in addition, it has disputed 268 parties with the block of saint petersburg and has scored 68 goals.

 

steven gerrard (former club: la galaxy) - retire

the former liverpool and england captain steven gerrard announced his retirement from professional football on 24 november 2016, ending his 19-year playing career. gerrard made 710 appearances for liverpool, scoring 186 goals and winning eight major trophies, including the champions league in 2005, before joining the mls side la galaxy in 2015. on 20 january 2017, gerrard rejoined liverpool in an academy coaching role after rejecting the vacant managers job at mk dons, now gerrard is stepping up to fill the kirkby dugout in charge of the u18s from next season.

 

gueïda fofana (former club: lyon) - injured and retire

the former lyon midfielder gueida fofana announced his retirement from professional football at the age of 25 due to constant injury problems with his ankle on 18 january 2017. fofana signed for the french giants almost six years ago but has played fewer than 100 games for the club in all competitions due to a chronic ankle injury.

 

joey barton (former club: burnley) - banned

joey barton, 34, was suspended for 18 months after admitting a football association charge in relation to betting. he has been released by burnley, one month after being banned from football.  barton previously indicated he would be forced into early retirement as a result of the ban unless its length was reduced on appeal.

 

philipp lahm (former club: bayern munich) - retire

on 20 may 2017, lahm made his final career appearance before retiring, captaining bayern as they ended the season as champions for the fifth consecutive year. fifteen years after making his debut for the bavarians, lahm walks away with eight bundesliga titles, six dfb-pokal wins, and one uefa champions league title, won as part of a treble in a season where he was bayern's captain. he also captained germany during their 2014 world cup win. it's potential to see him as a new icon in fifa 18.

 

john terry (former club: chelsea) - free agent now

on 17 april 2017, john terry announced that he would be leaving chelsea at the end of the 2016–17 season, after making 717 appearances and winning 13 major trophies in 22 years. but even at 36 and with injuries becoming more frequent, terry would have plenty to offer a team of the size of west brom or bournemouth, while china is a more appealing destination in terms of finances. also terry is already planning a career in coaching, this is undeniably the most romantic option. anyway most of fans would like to see him in fifa 18, no matter as a premier league player or a icon.

 

álvaro domínguez (former club: borussia monchengladbach) - injured and retire

twenty-seven-year-old borussia mönchengladbach defender alvaro dominguez has been forced to retire from soccer due to chronic back injuries. and he is considering taking legal action against former club borussia monchengladbach for medical negligence, since he was asked to pay through pain and did not receive adequate medical treatment from gladbach. he even called their treatment of him inhuman.
