We sat down and tried to calculate if it's even possible to max out Phials so that we can always make the best ones. The math behind it isn't very complex, and we will try to lay out it for all of those interested, since there are some cool discoveries to keep in mind for how it all works.

Maximum Skill You Can Get Baseline

-Alchemy Base +100 = 100

-Phial Mastery +30 = 130

-Phial Lore +30 = 160

-Frost/Air Formulated Phials +40 = 200

-Alchemical Theory +50 = 250

-blue crafting Robe (6), blue crafting Hat (6), blue crafting Rod (10), +22 = 272

This is the magic number for now. You will quickly see how much you are missing if you subtract your skill points from it.

Bronze (Tier 1) Reagents Do Not Provide Any Skill Points

If you want to discover your current skill level, just insert tier 1 mats into the recipe and it will be your number. Elemental reagents don't participate in skill calculation. First reagents that add anything to overall skill are Tier 2 Silver.

Crafting Is Set So That Reagents of Max (Tier 3) Quality Provide Fixed Amount of Skill for Any of the Below Categories

Before you read below: this means that every reagent has variable skill "price" for any given recipe. It doesn't matter how many reagents are needed, nor their number for craft. What seems to be programmed, is fixed amount of skill that they yield when provided with all of them on maximum for given recipe!

-Skill 200 Phials get 50 skill points from all maximum tiered reagents

-Skill 300 Phials get 75 skill points from all maximum tiered reagents (there's only one, Tepid Versitality)

-Skill 400 Phials get 100 skill points from all maximum tiered reagents

-Skill 450 Phials get 112 skill points from all maximum tiered reagents

Example #1:

*Phial of Charged Isolation

• x1 Awakened Air (not calculated)

• x1 Awakened Earth (not calculated)

• x2 Draconic Vial

• x9 Saxifrage*

If you are maxed, and put Tier 1 Bronze Vials (x2) and Saxifrage (x9), the skill of the craft will be 272/400.
If you are maxed, and put Tier 3 WOW Gold Vials (x2) and Saxifrage (x9), the skill of the craft will be 372/400.

Example #2:

*Phial of Glacial Fury

• x1 Awakened Frost (not calculated)

• x2 Draconic Vial

• x5 Writhebark

• x10 Bubble Poppy*

If you are maxed, and put Tier 1 Bronze Vials (x2) and Writebark (x5) and Bubble Poppy (x10), the skill of the craft will be 272/400.
If you are maxed, and put the same but WOW gold, again, the skill of the craft will still be 372/400 even though there are now three mats required that have quality tied to them.

So you can see individual reagent skill points will shift.

To Guarantee Maximum Tier 3 Craft, You Need to Use Lesser Illoustrious Insight for Additional 30 Skill Points

Sadly Insights cost Artisan's Mettles, which are a resource that is capped on a weekly basis

Takeaways

-You can only make a limited amount of guaranteed max skill Phials per week.

-Max skill you can get for - for example - 400 Phials, is 402, so you need to get all blue profession equipment.

-That's probably Blizzards way of limiting the overflow of maxed Phials on the marked, keep it in mind.

-There are no combinations of quality that will yield you a maxed out Phial (4 silver of these, 2 gold of these and so on...). All of the mats always have to be max Tier 3 (Gold).

-Your only other option for maxing, though not guaranteed, is going Inspiration, but I will leave that to research for someone else.
