1 - First Time crafts

One of the larger sources of upfront knowledge you're going to run into is from First Time Crafts. This is super easy to track and take advantage of. All you need to do is craft every recipe you learn at least once, this goes through any and all recipes you learn from the trainers but also any recipes you get later on from Renown farming random drops specialization choices. Any new recipe should be crafted at least once, you can see which recipes will give you a first time crafting bonus by filtering at the top of your profession window, just check the First Time Craft Bonus Box and it will list everything you still need to craft to get this easy profession knowledge. You can also use the crafting order system to craft some of the more expensive items if an order is available and you will still get your first time craft bonus, so keep an eye out for good crafting orders you can quickly snatch up.

2 - First Time Gathers

Now obviously Gathering professions aren't going to have any first craft bonuses to chase after, but thankfully they do have First Time Gather bonuses. This counts for base herbs so the nodes that don't have any special bonuses as well as the Empower Howard herbs, so you should get one knowledge for each type of empower herb of each type of Base herb, this works for mining as well. Though because you only have two base nodes in cerovite and draconium, we think mining actually has access to less first gather knowledge overall. It should work out to be 24 knowledge for herbalism and 12 knowledge for mining, so it's not quite as much as what you can get from first time crafts for the crafting professions, but it's still very valuable and it means you should absolutely gather every new type of node you come across.

3 - Hidden profession masters

Another great source of Quick Knowledge is the hidden profession Masters scattered around the Dragon Isles. There's one master for each profession and just talking to the master will give you five knowledge for a crafting profession or 10 knowledge for a gathering profession, so that's a really nice one-time bonus that takes maybe 5 minutes to gather up. You can go to the Wowhead page that has all of the Masters and their locations neatly laid out, it's the best source you're going to get for this kind of activity.

4 - Hidden Profession Treasures

There are also a lot of hidden profession Treasures for you to collect, each treasure will give you +3 knowledge points for your profession and some professions have up to 9x Treasures to collect that is a lot of free points right there. Wowhead again has a great page that will help you collect these in record time. We would recommend using an add-on that can tell you the coordinates of your character or your cursor on the map. It's totally worth taking the time to collect these Treasures, as you can get over 25 knowledge for some simple treasure tracking and collecting.

5 - Renown and rep rewards

You may know that reputation farming with the four major factions can be quite useful for professions, especially actually Crafters because they can offer you some very shiny recipes and crafting options when you get into the higher renowned levels, but these reputations also reward you with profession knowledge at Renown level 14 for each major faction. You can get the Crafter's Knowledge I reward which will give you a notebook of crafting knowledge, this item will give you 5 knowledge points for each of your crafting professions. And then at renowned 23 with a Dragonscale Expedition and renowned 24 with the other 3 factions, you can get Crafter's Knowledge II which gives you an epic notebook of crafting knowledge which will provide you with 10 knowledge for each crafting profession you have. So there's up to 15 points from each faction you grind wrap with for each profession you do in the renowned grind, though this is definitely more of a long-term thing unless you're out there digging holes for 12 hours a day.

6 - Artisan Consortium notes

The last big one-time source of knowledge is going to be from The Artisan's Consortium Quartermaster over in Valdrakken right next to the crafting order clerks will sell three sets of illustrations: Dusty  Alchemist's Research, Rare Alchemist's Research, and Ancient Alchemist's Research, each item provides you with 10 knowledge points for crafting professions or 15 knowledge points for Gathering professions. You can only buy each item once, so that's a total of 30 points or 45 points depending on which professions you have. These items also cost a lot of Artisans meta and increases for each item, so the Dusty one that does denotes that's 100, the rare notes cost 150 and then the ancient notes cost 200. You also need to earn reputation with The Artisans Consortium to be able to even buy these items, so be sure you're doing all of your weekly profession quests to get that wrap up. It is worth noting that you will gain 5  Artisans metal back per knowledge point you get from these items, so you will instantly earn a good chunk of your investment back.

7 - Gathering

Gatherers can get knowledge simply by gathering, you have a chance whenever you mine a node, pick a herb or skin a creature to get an item that will give you one point of knowledge, that doesn't seem to be any limit on this and we think the perception stat does increase the chance to get them. But as long as you are gathering, you'll be slowly accumulating more knowledge points. Now there are those items and then there are also more specific items that do actually have limitations and you can actually check them in your Gathering Journal. While the general one point knowledge items are pretty much endless, there are special items that are limited for example in Mining Journal, there is an entry for iridescent ore, if you hover over that item it says at the bottom of the tooltip, you may discover two more samples this week. So if you stop seeing the rarer items while Gathering the double check your journal to see if you've run out of samples for this week, that's going to slow down your knowledge generation quite a bit.

8 - Crafting

Crafters obviously can't gather anything to get knowledge they aren't gatherers after all, but they do have something they can look out for instead, the very same kind of one knowledge point items can drop from Monsters out in the world. It seems to depend on the profession as to which mobs can drop these items but it's hard to tell for sure. Either way you might find some Professional Knowledge just through killing stuff.  We wouldn't really say this is something you should farm necessarily, more just a nice bonus that might come along. It's not just mob kills though, you can actually get knowledge items from Treasures as well, so if you end up on a bit of a treasure farming binge like with a Dragonscale Expedition digging farm you can get a lot of knowledge as a nice side bonus and then you can also collect and turn in Dragon chance of knowledge.

9 - Dragon shards of Knowledge

For another repeatable source, Dragon shards do seem quite rare in general, but there is actually a quest line that you will need to complete before you can gather them or turn them in. So if you haven't seen any dragon shards whatsoever and you have no idea what they are, you probably need to do the quest. This entire quest line starts with this NPC right next to the flight path at the Ruby Life Pools, except the quest and work through everything you need to do here. Then over in anorin planes at the Forkriver Crossing, you should be able to find Miguel Bright, he will have a quest for you called "That's My Specialty". You do need to have at least 25 skill in one profession for this quest to pop up, so if you don't see it that might be why to follow through that questline and you should arrive at Khadin - the Master Artisan. If you did everything in the questline, you should also have 4 shards of dragon knowledge ready to turn in, when you turn in a Dragon Shard, you have to choose which profession it will go towards, the chosen profession will gain one knowledge point and you'll also be given 50 Artisan's Mettle. You should actually only need to do this quest once and then for any alts you should be able to talk to that very first NPC and skip over everything.

Now to get more Dragon shards, you're going to have to get a bit lucky, they seem to drop from any rare monster, any treasure and even from weekly reward boxes the drop rates are very low though, so it definitely is a question of luck. You can turn in as many Dragon shards as you want though so if you come across any in your adventures be sure to pop back to Kadin to get that extra profession knowledge.

10 - Inscription books

Inscription books are super weird mainly because of how the scribes themselves obtain the recipes for these books. It is a rather random Endeavor which means it's probably going to be very hard to find describe to actually create these for you, but the general idea here is that each profession has a book that can be created by the inscription profession. You can read that book once per week to gain one profession knowledge, so a very long-term deal but what knowledge per week is still one knowledge per week and it's going to add up over time, o we're going to include it. These books are also Bind on Pickup which means you cannot buy them from the Auction House or directly from a player, you have to pop over to the crafting order clerks in Valdrakken and place a crafting order for them, thankfully they aren't too expensive material, wisely don't gather all the materials up instead of a crafting order for your profession knowledge books.

11 - Weekly quests

Hopefully someone fills it sometime during the week and you can get that extra knowledge to add to your collection. And then of course we also have the weekly profession quests in Valdrakken, you should have one quest to pick up from your respective profession trainer or area once per week, you do need to get to skill 50 in your profession before these quests become available, so if you can't see them yet that might be why. Each quest asks you to provide specific materials or items maybe craft something or collect something depending on what profession you have. When you hand these quests in, you'll get an item that provides you with three profession knowledge.

Now there is another set of weekly Quests for crafting professions right next to the crafting order clerks, you're looking for The Gnome and the tuscar, they have quests that are a bit more involved and take a bit more time, usually, you have to go out and hunt down quest items that drop from specific mobs. These do tend to take a little bit longer as you have to head out into the Dragon Isles and actually do some farming, but because they are weekly quests you can also just chip away at them over the week while you're farming rep or rares or World quests or really anything else out in the world, just be sure to hand them in before the reset rolls around. These quests will reward you with another 3 points of knowledge

Then there are also weekly quests from The Artisans Consortium, you can find this Quest Giver right next to the crafting order clerks as well on the other side, so it's pretty hard to miss. These quests ask you to complete five crafting orders for any crafting profession, you might have these quests that will reward you with an item that provides three pieces of knowledge. So it's yet another good repeatable source to help you rack up those knowledge points. If you've been struggling with the crafting order system and you haven't been able to fulfill any orders, don't you worry, you can very easily complete this quest by hopping onto an alt and creating 5 private work orders to your crafting character or just provide them to your guild if you're in the same guild as your alt, and you can trust your guilties to not steal your crafting orders, do something cheap so it won't cost you an arm and a leg and just fulfill all five crafting orders to get the quest done. It might seem a bit wasteful especially if you don't plan to actually use any of the crafted items, then it just depends on how much you want those knowledge points.

12 - Darkmoon Faire

Another set of quests you can do but these are going to be once per month rather than once per week, because they are tied to the Darkmoon Faire. Over in the Darkmoon fair you should be able to find one quest for each of your professions, they're incredibly simple to complete, either gather some materials or create something with stuff you can buy from a vendor, there's nothing too difficult or anything that will actually cost you much goal to complete. These quests all reward 2 skill points in your profession, some Artisan's Mettle, and then what we're all here for three points of profession knowledge. So if you want to maximize your knowledge gains be sure to pop by the Darkmoon faire whenever it's in town.
