Ritual returns as one of the headline mechanics in the Path of Exile 2 0.5.5 Forbidden Rites League, and the recent patch notes have brought some real shifts to how players interact with altars, tribute, and rewards. If you plan to push Ritual as your main money farm this league, knowing the tweaks to tablets, the new Atlas passive, and the reshuffled reward pool will give you a head start. Below is a full guide covering what changed, how to build your Atlas, which tablets to stack, and how to squeeze maximum profit out of every altar you find.
PoE 2 0.5.5 Ritual Farm Guide
Ritual in Path of Exile 2 0.5.5 works on the same core loop as before: altars appear in your maps, you kill everything inside the circle, activate the encounter, defeat the revived monsters, and spend the tribute you earn on rewards from Aoife's window. The mechanic is now present in every campaign zone as well, with two special boss Rituals per act, but the end game version still remains the primary source of unique items and omens. With the loop clear, let's look at what has actually changed in 0.5.5.
Changes to Ritual in Path of Exile 2 0.5.5
Before diving into the strategy, it helps to know exactly what Grinding Gear Games adjusted in this patch, since several of these tweaks directly change how you should build your Atlas.
Party Members Can Earn Tribute
Party members can now gain Ritual Tribute from completing Ritual encounters. They have their own limited selection of rewards to spend Tribute on, or they can offer their Tribute to the King in the Mists. Party rewards cannot be rerolled.
Sacred Blooms and the Viridian Wildwood
Sacred Blooms are a new Ritual reward that adds the Viridian Wildwood to a cluster of Maps on your Atlas. Inside the Wildwood you follow trails of Wisps and collect them. When you leave, monsters in the affected Map area become stronger and drop more loot based on the Wisps you gathered. The old Viridian Wildwood Unique Map has been disabled, and any existing ones on your Atlas will be rerolled into another Unique Map where possible.
Multiple Ritual Tablets Now Stack Effects
Using more than one Ritual Tablet now adds an extra Altar to a Map if possible, and it also grants increased quantity of Azmeri Wisps collected inside the Viridian Wildwood. This one change alone hints that stacking tablets is going to be part of the new meta.
New Royal Lenience Atlas Passive
A new Notable Ritual Atlas Passive called Royal Lenience has been added. It grants that Tribute already offered to the King may be used to Defer items, but Deferring Favours using Tribute already offered to the King costs 500% more Offered Tribute. In practice this means you can double-dip on Tribute you would normally spend rerolling, letting you push toward larger purchases without running dry.
Party Play Ritual Start
In party play, every player in the area now needs to hear Aoife's introduction before the Ritual encounter can be started, which slows down group rushing a little.
With those adjustments on the table, let's move into the actual farming plan that gets the most from the mechanic.
PoE 2 Best Ritual Types, Atlas Tree, Tablets & Mapping Strategy
Setting up an effective Ritual farm in 0.5.5 comes down to five pillars: picking the right Ritual Types, filling out your Atlas Tree correctly, running the correct Tablets, juicing your maps for pack size, and layering Head of the King on top. Here is how each piece fits together.
1. Ritual Types (Tainted for Belt Chase Items)
Ritual has multiple flavors you can select on the Atlas tree, and the pick matters more than most players think.
The best choice by far is Tainted Rituals. This variant biases the reward pool toward belts, which is exactly the slot that Mageblood and Headhunter live in. If you are chasing those two items as your endgame goal, Tainted is non-negotiable.
Skip pure resistance-debuff altar rolls if your build cannot handle them safely, and always aim for altars that boost Tribute gain, add extra rerolls, or increase favour count. The 20% increased number of favours altar bonus is arguably the top roll because it directly widens the reward pool you can spend Tribute on.
2. Atlas Tree Setup (Ritual Points, Notables, and Toggles)
To even start farming Ritual seriously, you need the full Ritual Atlas tree unlocked. Farming without those points is a waste of time.

How to unlock the Ritual points:
Path west on the Atlas toward the Karth area (through the Delirium section).
Complete the Karth quest chain to open the Ritual node section.
Do this before you even grab your regular mapping points. Multiple players have dropped a Mageblood from a random early Ritual and been unable to defer it because they had zero Ritual passives.
The final row of points requires killing Ritual pinnacle bosses, including Bodok, one of the hardest bosses in the game. Buy a carry for around 3 divines if your build cannot handle him.
Priority notables to grab first:
Patient Devotion: deferring favors cost 50% reduced tribute. First allocation, no exceptions. Without this, a Mageblood roll costs over 2,000 tribute to defer, which is more than most single maps produce.
Tainted Ritual toggle: biases belt drops for Mageblood chances.
Ritual altars offer 10% increased number of favours: the alternate toggle, still a solid pick if you prefer more variety.
Royal Lenience: new 0.5.5 notable that lets Tribute already offered to the King be used to defer items. Absolutely take this if you plan to chase big-ticket uniques.
Best-in-slot triple-choice node (line 3): revive monsters from rituals have 15% reduced penalty to tribute gain. Gives massive tribute per map. If your build is weak, pick option 2 (10% more favours in the reward window) as a safer alternative.
Ancient Emits and Bring Forward Unseen: 25% increased tribute from spirit-influenced or possessed monsters sacrificed in Ritual altars, and the same for summoning circles. Both have direct synergy with Ritual.
Additional Azmeri Spirit and Additional Summoning Circle nodes: because Wisps and Summoning Circles landing inside a Ritual circle massively boost Tribute.
Small altars are guarded by additional pack of random monsters: more monsters inside the altar equals more tribute.
Points to avoid:
Man Trap is bugged. Rogue exiles do not spawn inside the essences.
Survival of the Fittest is reportedly weak according to top-tier ritual farmers.
Atlas Master Pick:
Doriani is the top choice for Ritual because Stitch the Flesh grants an extra revive, which matters a lot when you are running six-mod one-portal maps.
Grab Evolutionary Pressure and Waystones Have More Effect while you are at it.
Alternate pick: Jado with Partial Translations for zero to 40% increased effect of explicit modifiers on tablets, which multiplies budget omen-chance tablets nicely.
3. Tablets (Budget Setup vs High Investment Setup)
Tablets are where 0.5.5 rewards preparation, because more than one Ritual Tablet now adds an extra Altar to the map if possible.
Budget Setup (2 to 5 divines total):
2x rare Ritual Tablets with "ritual favors in your maps have increased chance to be omens" (aim for 60% to 70% roll).
1x Freedom of Faith unique Ritual Tablet. Its final line says you can reroll favors at ritual altars in your maps twice as many times, which doubles whatever reroll count you already have.
Optional pair mods to look for: increased chance for enemies to be magic or rare, monsters sacrificed at the ritual altar grant increased tribute, or deferring favors costs reduced tribute.
High Investment Setup (best-in-slot):
2x rare Ritual Tablets with "ritual altars in maps allow rerolling favors one to three additional times." Aim for three additional times if your budget allows.
1x Freedom of Faith to double the reroll count.
Extra mods to pair: increased chance for enemies to be magic or rare, master sacrifice grants increased tribute, or deferring favors costs reduced tribute.
Buying Trick for Reroll Tablets:
The three-reroll tablet is roughly 9 divines while the one-reroll version is around 5 divines. You can buy the one-reroll version and slam Divine Orbs on it to potentially reroll into two or three additional times, saving a lot of currency. Always check the "uses remaining" count. Never buy a tablet with fewer than 10 uses.
4. Crafting Your Own Ritual Tablets
If you would rather not pay trade prices, you can craft the exact tablets you want at very low cost.
Transmute + Augment every ritual tablet you find, then search "omen" and "allow" in the inventory filter.
If neither modifier appears, use an Alchemy Orb to reroll everything and give yourself a second chance.
A rare 10-use tablet with the reroll mod is worth around 4 divines, and one with three additional rerolls is worth around 8 divines.
5. Map Juice (Pack Size, Six Mods, and Layout)
Pack size is the primary scaling stat for Ritual because more monsters inside the circle equals more Tribute.
Roll waystones with at least 20% pack size where possible.
Alk-and-slam every waystone. Aim for six mod maps so all three tablet slots are active.
Use Exalted Orbs twice after alching to lock in six modifiers. You will have one portal only, which is why Doriani plus Stitch the Flesh is mandatory.
City biomes are worth running for the fourth tablet slot despite the trickier layouts.
Rogue Exiles are the one exception to the "no dragging monsters" rule. Pull them into the circle to fatten the Tribute pool.
Look for Summoning Circles, Shrines, Azmeri Wisps, and Delirium fog overlap with the Ritual circle for stacked Tribute.
6. Head of the King for Big Sessions
Head of the King chains multiple maps into a single Ritual session, adds bonus rewards, and increases the number of Ritual Altars per map.
How to attach it:
Buy Head of the King on the currency exchange, or farm it from the King in the Mists boss (fought via Audience with the King invitation, obtained from the Rebuild the Crux of Nothingness quest areas).
Attach it to a chosen node on the Atlas. The game highlights valid maps in purple.
If the chain rewards look weak, press Escape and pick a different node. Rewards are locked once you accept, so scan multiple options before committing.
Start the chain with a map that has strong altar bonuses. That bonus applies across every map in the chain.
Sample Investment vs Return:
In a recent 30-map Ritual chain sample, 5x Head of the King + 6x Freedom of Faith + 6x rare omen tablets cost roughly 13 divines and returned around 42 divines after liquidation. Prices for the tablets themselves: rare omen tablets with 10 uses around 80 exalts, Freedom of Faith around 70 exalts with 5 uses, Head of the King around 160 exalts.
7. Complete Three Rituals Per Map
Ritual Favours only fully open up in the window after you complete at least three Rituals in a single map. Never leave a map after just one or two altars, since the third one is where the higher tier uniques and best omens start appearing.
8. Target Omen Farming at Tier 15+
To get access to every omen in the drop pool from Ritual, you need area level 79, which means Tier 15 maps at minimum. Below that, the top-end omens are locked out no matter how much Tribute you feed the window.
9. Apply Your Loot Filter to the Ritual Window
Before your first juiced session, sort your filter. Press Escape, go to Options, then Game, then Guidance, and open the config file button. Inside your PoE 2 folder open the file PoE 2 production config.txt with Notepad. Use Ctrl+F to search for "Ritual" and find the line "apply item filter to Ritual." Set it from false to true and save. Your filter now applies to the Ritual reward window, which saves a huge amount of scrolling when hunting high value omens.
10. Deferring Smartly
Deferring lets you tag any item in the Ritual window so it becomes cheaper the next time it appears. Perfect for Mageblood or Headhunter that sit at 30,000 to 40,000 Tribute.
Keep deferring big-ticket items until you can afford them or the cost drops to zero.
If an item turns red, it will not appear in the next Ritual, so buy it or defer it before finishing the encounter.
Never defer junk like current Sacred Blooms, since they are still cheap and unproven as a farm layer.
Combined with Royal Lenience, deferring is much less punishing in 0.5.5.
PoE 2 Ritual Early Game Farm Strategy for Magebloods
The dream scenario for any Ritual farmer is dropping a Mageblood in the first couple of days of the league. Players who have farmed Ritual heavily at league start for the past two seasons have pulled Magebloods off within the first 48 hours, and none of those drops came from perfectly juiced tablet setups. The recipe is simple: get the deferral tools online early, run volume, and let the RNG catch up.
1. Build Requirements
You do not need a mirror-tier character to farm Mageblood-hunting Ritual early. A five-divine budget build like a jumbling twister works fine. What matters is:
Clear speed fast enough to alk-and-go six mod maps.
Enough defense to survive Ritual altars solo since you will only have two portals with Doriani.
A boss carry option lined up for Bodok if your build cannot handle him.
2. Day One Pathing
The single biggest early-league mistake is pathing to regular mapping bonuses first. Do not do that.
Path directly through the Delirium section to Karth.
Start the Ritual quest chain immediately, before you even take your first Alchemy Orb node.
One streamer's chat viewer dropped a Mageblood before reaching Karth and had zero Patient Devotion, so the tribute cost put it out of reach. Do not repeat that.
3. Priority Point Order for Mageblood Hunting
Patient Devotion first. 50% reduced deferring cost. Non-negotiable.
Tainted with the Selection toggle. Biases belt drops.
The +10% number of favours toggle if you prefer variety, or the belt-biased path.
Doriani + Stitch the Flesh for the second portal.
Pack size nodes scattered across the tree. Search "pack size" in the Atlas search bar and grab every accessible node.
Royal Lenience once you have some tribute banked from initial runs.
Skip Man Trap (bugged) and Survival of the Fittest.
4. Cheap Self-Crafted Tablet Loop
For the first days of the league, do not buy expensive tablets. Craft them yourself.
Transmute + Augment every Ritual tablet drop you find.
Filter search for "omen" and "allow" to check for the two juice mods.
If none hit, Alchemy Orb the tablet for a second attempt.
Freedom of Faith is the one tablet worth buying outright, since it doubles your reroll count regardless of what else you run.
5. Head of the King Chain Priorities
Once you can farm Head of the King (audience with the King boss fight guaranteed reward), the chain-start priorities are:
Start the chain on a node whose altar has increased favours, increased rerolls, or increased tribute. That bonus carries across the whole chain.
Chain endings should sit on nodes with divine orb or chaos orb rewards for guaranteed currency income.
If a chain's rewards look weak, exit and try a different Atlas region. You cannot retry the same node, so hop until you find a good one.
6. Pulling from the Ritual Window Correctly
When you are running your chain and see something big:
Defer immediately. Do not reroll past a Mageblood, Headhunter, plus4 Fireflower, or Whittling omen. If the item does not have a red border, rerolling raises its cost next appearance instead of lowering it.
Rare items may not appear every refresh. Do not panic if a Mageblood vanishes for one refresh; it is still in the pool.
Pull cheap junk out at the end of the chain so you do not waste the leftover tribute.
Every subsequent map in the Head of the King chain gets juicier because tribute stacks.
7. Volume Beats Optimization
The biggest lesson from the two-league Mageblood streak is that volume matters more than perfection. Run Ritual on every map. Complete three rituals per map minimum. Alk-and-go the waystones. Keep deferring big-ticket items until they drop to zero cost.
