Tailoring Orb is an item in Path of Exile (PoE) that is used to modify Rare items. Tailoring Orbs allow you to re-roll the sockets, links, colors, and quality of a Rare item while keeping its other modifiers like affixes and corruption intact. It does not modify the item level or rarity of the item. Those stay the same as before using the orb.
Using a Tailoring Orb on a Rare item is essentially the same as using Orbs of Augmentation/Chromatic/Jeweller's/Blessed orbs without risking changing the item's affixes. They are primarily used for "Crafting" Rare items by using orbs to get the desired socket/link/color configuration without rerolling the affixes. This allows targeted modification of the item. Tailoring Orbs are not consumable - using one on a Path of Exile item simply modifies it and the orb is not used up.
Drop Randomly: Tailoring Orbs have a chance to drop from defeating enemies or completing content throughout the acts and endgame. Higher level content has a better chance to drop them.
Vendor Recipe: The guaranteed way to get them is by completing a vendor recipe. Trade in 1 Rare item along with 1 Orb of Augmentation, 1 Orb of Chromatic, 1 Jeweller's Orb and 1 Blessed Orb to any vendor in exchange for 1 Tailoring Orb.
Heist Contract Rewards: Completing high tier Heist blueprints and contracts from the Rogue Exiles in the Rogue Harbor has a chance to reward Tailoring Orbs. The higher the tier, the better chances.
League Content Rewards: Playing through league mechanic content like Metamorph, Breach, Delirium etc. can potentially award Tailoring Orbs upon completion or from reward chests/ POE currency drops.
Betrayal Research Unlocks: Completing Research Safehouses with the Hillock branch in Betrayal league has a chance to add Tailoring Orbs to the reward pool.
Maven's Atlas Passive Tree: There are nodes on Maven's Atlas passive tree that can slightly increase the chances of Tailoring Orbs dropping from maps.
Trade with other players: You can also check official trade sites to buy Tailoring Orbs from other players if you prefer not farming them yourself.
Unfortunately, the exact drop rate for Tailoring Orbs in Path of Exile is not published by Grinding Gear Games. However, based on community feedback and observations, here are some general points about their drop rate:
-Tailoring Orbs are considered a rare/uncommon currency drop. Their base drop rate is quite low.
-The higher the area level and monster level, the better chance for them to drop. Early acts have an extremely low chance.
-Endgame maps tier 10+ have a noticeable chance to drop them from time to time. But it's still not very high or common.
-Completing higher tier Heist contracts/blueprints, league mechanics, and Maven passives can boost the rate slightly.
-On average, most players report finding 1 every few hours of regular gameplay in high-level areas.
-Dedicated farming strategies like juiced T16 maps, 100% Delirious maps, or efficient Heisting may yield 1 every 30-60 minutes on average.
-The vendor recipe is intended to be the main consistent source, though tedious to farm the ingredients.
Crafting Pros:
Targeted - You can craft exactly what you need like sockets, links, colors without RNG affix rolls.
Consistent - Vendor recipe provides steady income to craft as needed.
Iterative - Can repeatedly alter an item until perfect for minimal cost.
Controlled - Craft affixes separately with other orbs without risk of ruined item.
Crafting Cons:
Costly - Requires POE currency investment for each attempt via vendor recipe.
Time Consuming - Repeated crafting can be tedious even with auto recipes.
Vendor Limit - Can only do 1 recipe at a time from each vendor per game instance.
Dropping Pros:
Free - You don't spend currency getting an already-rolled rare item to drop.
Passive Income - Drops accrue over time with normal gameplay.
Unexpected Bonuses - May get perfect item without any investment.
Dropping Cons:
RNG - You have no influence on the specific affixes or values that roll.
Inconsistent - May go long periods without a usable drop.
Wasted Potential - Items that could be better with tailored sockets/colors/links.
