How to Get and Use Betrayer's Husks (Superior Lair Keys) in Diablo 4 Season 14

July 01, 2026 Diablo 4 Farming(MF) Guide

Diablo 4 Season 14 brings massive changes to endgame loot systems, Lair boss mechanics, and key seasonal consumables. Among the most important endgame items are Betrayer's Husks, also newly renamed as Superior Lair Keys in the latest patch update. Now, let's see how D4 Season 14 reworks Betrayer's Husks, and how to farm and use these keys correctly.

Diablo 4 Season 14 Betrayer's Husks (Superior Lair Keys) Guide

Betrayer's Husk is a type of Lair Boss Key in Diablo 4, designed specifically to unlock high-tier endgame boss treasure caches. Classified as a special ladder key for Tier 3 endgame boss encounters, this item serves as the core requirement to open Belial's Hoard and the new Seasonal Lair Boss reward cache in Torment difficulties. In its original design, Betrayer's Husk was tightly linked to Belial, Lord of Lies, one of the iconic endgame bosses in Diablo 4. Players needed to collect 2 Betrayer's Husks to activate and open Belial's Hoard after defeating the boss. A unique rule applies to this loot system: only the player who opens the initial Lair Boss’s Hoard that triggers Belial’s ambush can receive Betrayer's Husk drops from Belial. No other party members can claim these exclusive keys. It has a sell value of 32,500 Gold, making it a valuable item even for quick gold gains. Importantly, Betrayer's Husks only drop and function in Torment difficulties. Players cannot obtain or use this key in any lower difficulty settings.

D4 Season 14 Betrayer's Husk Changes

Diablo 4 Patch 3.1, released on June 30, 2026, brings the most significant overhaul to Betrayer's Husks for Season 14, completely changes its function and farming location.

1. Betrayer's Husks have been officially renamed to Superior Lair Keys

The update explains this rename logically: Belial is no longer the only Tier 3 Lair boss in the game. With the addition of the new Seasonal Lair Boss, the old name tied exclusively to Belial became outdated. The new name “Superior Lair Key” better represents its universal use for all high-tier Lair boss treasure caches.

2. Betrayer's Husks are no longer obtainable under their original name

The item has been fully removed from the game, and Superior Lair Keys have replaced it entirely. Fortunately, the farming methods that previously dropped Betrayer's Husks remain unchanged for Superior Lair Keys.

3. The core application of the key has expanded

Originally used only for Belial’s Hoard, the renamed Superior Lair Key now serves as the required item for the new Seasonal Lair Boss’s reward cache. This new endgame boss offers the highest drop chances for Mythic Uniques and Mythic Unique Upgrade currency compared to any other in-game activity.

Where and How to Get Betrayer's Husks (Superior Lair Keys) in D4 S14

While Betrayer's Husks are renamed to Superior Lair Keys in Season 14, the acquisition logic inherits the original drop rules and adds new reliable farming sources from seasonal mechanics. Below is a detailed breakdown of all valid farming methods and related requirements.

1. Original Legacy Drop Source (Belial Encounter)

Before Season 14, Betrayer's Husks dropped exclusively from Belial, Lord of Lies. Belial had a random chance to ambush players right after they opened any standard Lair Boss's Hoard. Only the player who triggered the hoard opening could loot the Betrayer's Husks from Belial. This mechanic still exists in Season 14 but now rewards Superior Lair Keys instead of the old Betrayer's Husks. Belial spawns in the Palace of the Deceiver, located in the Amber Sands of Kehjistan. This dungeon only appears in Torment difficulties, so lower-tier playthroughs cannot access this boss. The level requirement for this encounter remains Level 78.

2. Season 14 Farming Source: Deathtoll Chamber

The best and most consistent source of Superior Lair Keys (formerly Betrayer's Husks) in Season 14 is the Deathtoll Chamber, a new mini-dungeon tied to the Pandemonium Ruptures mechanic. This is now the most reliable way to farm large quantities of the keys for endgame boss runs. To unlock the Deathtoll Chamber, players need to interact with Season 14’s signature Pandemonium Ruptures. These arcane rifts tear apart the boundary between Sanctuary and Pandemonium, spawning new enemies and endgame opportunities. There are three types of Pandemonium Ruptures with different spawn rules and rewards:

  • Normal Ruptures: Small rifts that spawn randomly across the overworld of Sanctuary, with a much higher spawn rate during Helltide events. These basic ruptures cannot summon Realmwalkers and offer basic loot.

  • Surging Ruptures: Medium-sized rifts that replace regular local events during Helltides. If you complete a Surging Rupture with Mastery within the time limit, you get a chance to spawn a Realmwalker.

  • Colossal Ruptures: The largest and most rewarding rifts, spawning only in the Fields of Desecration—the World Boss Arena southeast of Zarbinzet. Completing a Colossal Rupture guarantees a Realmwalker spawn.

Realmwalkers are powerful endgame enemies returning in Season 14’s Realmwalker 2.0 system. Defeating a Realmwalker opens a direct portal to the Deathtoll Chamber. Additionally, players can access the Deathtoll Chamber from Nightmare Dungeons with the Rupture affix, after closing enough Tear nodes within Pandemonium Ruptures. Inside the one-room Deathtoll Chamber, players complete a special Rupture activity to earn massive rewards, including a steady drop of Superior Lair Keys. This method is far more efficient than the old random Belial ambush farming.

3. Additional Seasonal Farming Mechanics

Season 14 adds new monster and event mechanics to boost key farming efficiency. A new monster family called The Risen spawns exclusively from Pandemonium Ruptures and inside the Deathtoll Chamber. Its core unit, Gravehounds, drop special power orbs when killed.

These orbs empower the Exarch, a powerful elite Risen enemy. To prevent the Exarch from gaining full power and to claim extra rewards, players must intercept the floating orbs before they reach the Exarch. Successfully intercepting orbs increases your overall loot yield, including more Superior Lair Key drops.

Moreover, random Rupture Goblins can spawn anywhere in Sanctuary during Season 14. These goblins open extra Pandemonium Ruptures, giving players more chances to complete rupture events and farm keys.

How to Use Betrayer's Husks (Superior Lair Keys) in D4 S14?

Though renamed, the core usage logic of Betrayer's Husks/Superior Lair Keys follows the original rules with expanded Season 14 content. All usage scenarios require Torment I or higher difficulties.

1. Open Belial's Hoard (Legacy Usage)

The classic use of these keys remains intact. After defeating Belial in the Palace of the Deceiver (Torment difficulty only), you need to spend 2 Superior Lair Keys (formerly Betrayer's Husks) to open Belial's Hoard. As mentioned before, you can select any target Lair boss to loot from this hoard, letting you target specific gear drops for your build.

2. Unlock New Seasonal Lair Boss Reward Cache (Season 14 Core Usage)

The main new use for Superior Lair Keys in Season 14 is unlocking the reward cache of the new Corrupted Reaper Lair Boss. This boss is located at the Pandemonium Threshold entrance in Zarbinzet.

For PTR testing, this boss was accessible once players reached Torment I difficulty. After the official Season 14 launch, players can encounter and fight this boss through the seasonal campaign progression. Similar to Belial’s Hoard, opening the Corrupted Reaper Lair Boss’s treasure cache requires Superior Lair Keys.

This new boss is the best endgame target for high-value loot. It provides the highest drop rate of Mythic Uniques and Mythic Unique Upgrade currency in the entire game, making key farming essential for players pursuing max-power endgame builds.
