Path of Exile 2 Version 0.5 launches the Runes of Aldur league, a massive content update centered on the long-lost power of the Kalguuran civilization and its runic craft. This guide covers PoE 2 new Kalguuran skills, exclusive Kalguuran unique items, Kalguuran bosses and other themed items.
PoE 2 0.5 Kalguuran Items & Skills
Path of Exile 2: Return of the Ancients introduces the Kalguuran Runecrafting mechanic, which involves the use and acquisition of related skills and items.
List of New PoE 2 0.5 Kalguuran Skills (Effects & Costs)
Kalguuran Skills are a new category of cross-class abilities crafted via Kalguuran Runecrafting. They are created by combining ancient runes with corruption-infused skill gems, featuring unique mechanic reworks that break traditional build limits. Kalguuran Skills only cost Runic Ward, have no gem color restrictions, and ignore all attribute and weapon requirements. Every class can use every Kalguuran Skill freely, enabling unprecedented build flexibility.
1. Frostflame Nova
Max Level: 20 | Required Level: 90 | Cast Time: 0.70s | Runic Ward Cost: 93
Frostflame Nova is a high-end endgame spell that reworks elemental ailment interactions completely. It does not deal direct damage, but releases a volatile ice wave that latches onto ignited enemies. The skill refreshes the duration of active Ignite debuffs on targets while rapidly building Freeze stacks on them. While active, affected enemies cannot receive new Ignite until their existing Ignite expires.
Key Mechanics: The main wave covers a 4.5-metre radius, while volatile ice shards create a secondary 1-metre wave. It has a 12% base critical strike chance and deals 81–122 cold damage. It gains 10% increased Freeze buildup per 1% of the enemy’s ailment threshold dealt by active Ignite per second, and hits affected targets every 0.5 seconds until the Ignite ends. This skill is perfect for ignite-freeze hybrid builds that stack sustained elemental pressure.
2. Mark of Repulsion
Level: 1 | Runic Ward Cost: 15 | Cooldown: 0.5s | Use Time: 0.5s
This targeted runic mark places a Verisium Rune on a single enemy (1 target limit, 8-second duration). The mark activates when the target takes damage equal to 200% of its ailment threshold or is killed. Upon activation, it triggers a wide-area repulsion explosion that deals physical AoE damage and applies heavy knockback to all nearby enemies.
Best Usage: Pair with fast attack speed builds and ailment-stacking setups. It excels at crowd control and single-target burst cleanup, ideal for mapping and elite monster encounters.
3. Triskelion Cascade
Level: 1 | Runic Ward Cost: 20 | Cooldown: 1.0s | Cast Time: 0.45s
Triskelion Cascade empowers your next area spell with a unique triangular attack pattern. After casting this buff, your next self-targeted or location-targeted AoE spell will center on your character and spawn six additional overlapping AoE zones in a triskelion formation.
Tradeoffs & Stats: The buff lasts a maximum of 4 seconds. The empowered skill has 40% reduced area of effect and 30% less damage, but the multi-zone overlap creates massive stacked damage density. The skill adds 800% of the empowered spell’s cast time to its own cooldown, requiring careful timing for optimal rotations. It is top-tier for boss fights and clustered monster packs.
4. Hollow Shell
Level: 1 | Cast Time: 0.60s
Hollow Shell is a support defensive spell focused on team and self survival. It sacrifices 100% of your current Runic Ward to release a 3-metre energy pulse that grants the Guard buff to all nearby allies for 6 seconds. The Guard value equals 35% of the total Ward consumed by the skill.
Usage Tip: Use as a panic defensive ability for tough boss mechanics or party content. Pair with high maximum Ward builds to generate powerful Guard buffs for yourself and teammates.
5. Runic Infusion
This support gem converts your attack skills into Ward-scaling offensive tools. Supported attacks now cost additional Runic Ward to use but gain massive bonus physical damage based on their total Ward cost. Supported skills consume 20% extra maximum Ward and deal added physical damage equal to 25% of their total Ward cost. This support transforms tanky high-Ward builds into high-damage melee/ranged attack builds.
6. Concussive Runes
This support gem triggers a Runic Shockwave beneath enemies when your supported skill applies a Heavy Stun. The shockwave consumes Runic Ward on trigger and will not activate if you lack sufficient Ward. It is a perfect pairing for stun-focused melee builds, adding free AoE damage and crowd control to heavy hitters.
How to Use PoE 2 Kalguuran Skills & Build Strategies?
No Restriction Build Freedom: Since these skills ignore strength, dexterity, intelligence, and weapon requirements, any class can run spell, attack, or support Kalguuran skills regardless of their base attribute leaning. This opens hybrid builds previously impossible in PoE 2.
Ward Resource Management: All Kalguuran abilities rely solely on Runic Ward. Successful builds must prioritize maximum Ward, Ward regeneration, reduced Ward cost, and Ward recovery on kill/hit. Stacking Kalguuran unique items and runes is the fastest way to scale Ward sustainability.
Skill Combo Logic: Use Triskelion Cascade as a burst buffer for high-impact AoE spells; pair Frostflame Nova with ignite-stacking skills for permanent elemental ailment lockdown; use Mark of Repulsion for consistent crowd clear; slot Runic Infusion/Concussive Runes to amplify melee/attack damage output.
Endgame Scaling: Kalguuran skills scale extremely well into late game due to unique Verisium crafting and Olroth’s Legacy rune extraction, allowing players to steal powerful unique modifiers to further buff their Ward and skill effects.
New PoE 2 0.5 Kalguuran Unique Items
The 0.5 update adds a full roster of endgame Kalguuran unique items and expands existing Ezomyte unique categorizations. All Kalguuran uniques are endgame-focused, dropping exclusively from new pinnacle league bosses and endgame encounters. GGG will add in-game visual indicators to distinguish Kalguuran and Ezomyte faction uniques (similar to Vaal unique skull markers) in the game.

How to Get Kalguuran Uniques in PoE 2?
Nearly all Kalguuran unique items are endgame drops. Primary acquisition sources include:
New 0.5 pinnacle league boss fights (Olroth’s Legacy final encounter)
Five new Kalguuran tomb bosses added in the update
Verisium meteor crater endgame encounters
High-level runeforging of low-level unique items via Verisium crafting
Uses of Olroth’s Legacy
Olroth’s Legacy is the defining crafting feature of 0.5’s Kalguuran system. Players can target any Kalguuran or Ezomyte unique item, sacrifice the entire item permanently, and extract one of its exclusive unique modifiers. This extracted modifier becomes a standalone socketable rune that can be slotted into matching item types.
This mechanic completely revolutionizes endgame gearing. Players are no longer limited to fixed unique item stats; they can mix and match the best faction unique modifiers onto custom-crafted gear, creating completely personalized broken builds. This system replaces old Vaal unique crafting as the top-tier endgame customization method.
New PoE 2 0.5 Kalguuran Bosses & Drops
The Runes of Aldur league adds five brand-new Kalguuran tomb bosses, located in ancient buried ruins and the Verisium meteor crater. These bosses guard the most powerful Verisium materials and Kalguuran unique drops.
